Quite simply, even if they're able to do a good performance in their own right it's never really going to be the same. They could in theory get a seiyuu who does as close to a voice match impression of Nozawa as possible and it would still not fully recapture what has made her take so distinctive for so many years.
"Different and bizarre", exactly. If a new person voicing Goku will feel different and bizarre, then the writers should go ahead and make the character different and bizarre. Goku himself should "never really be the same", after experiencing a metamorphosis of some kind. Instead of trying to recapture Nozawa's characterization, you create a new and different characterization for Goku. One that remains true to who Goku has always been, yet is unafraid to explore who Goku *can* be. That way you acknowledge that post-Nozawa, Goku has changed, while honoring Nozawa's iconicity. The audience will then have an easier time of processing the change and be more at ease.
Yes, and so if they are actually going to go in a different (albeit not too out there) direction once someone else assumes the role after Nozawa retires/passes on.etc then it should be something which more or less retains the essence of Goku but not just trying to imitate what was there before. As in make it something distinct from what Nozawa’s take has been for so many years yet is still close enough to the character we know and love. Not talking a complete reinvention here, but enough changes so it's not just a carbon copy of Nozawa and her beloved characterization.

This makes the transition to a successor down the line will easier to accept once that time comes. It's going to take some getting used to, though hopefully whoever is cast can do the role justice and show they will be able to live up to what Nozawa has brought for so long in their own different way.
DB collection related goals as of now:

1.) Find decent priced copy of Dragon Box Z Vol. 4 (Done)

2.) Collect rest of manga

3.) Get rest of Daizenshuu (2-7)

Cure Dragon 255 wrote: Sat Nov 06, 2021 10:26 am It most certainly is in a thread like this, if they want they can make another thread for his little fanfic tier reboot, not make in this thread.
1. It's not disrespectful to say I'm expecting Nozawa to do her job until she passes or retires. Humans are born to die. We all die one day.

2. How in the hell am I gravedancing by saying maybe it would be time to let Goku rest.

3. I made a suggestion for a soft reboot that Toriyama himself already did once any way. I'm not writing a fanfic and it seems the only person offended is you.

Ok Ok you win. I was mega hyper rude. I do still think the people who want to talk about any reboot or stuff like that could make their own thread. But I do admit I was mega out of place sorry.

Also, as a peace offering I will say this. I think we will indeed see a major shift in portrayal whether we like it or not when Nozawa leaves.

Nozawa runs on pure happiness, so I think she probably won't need a replacement for another decade possibly. She said she wants to continue voicing Goku until she's "at least 100." Then she said she could do it until she's 110. And, in some very recent interview she said that she can go until she's 128. A bit exaggerated, but I think we have quite awhile to go before she needs any sort of replacement. Also I can't think of an actor in Japan that sounds quite as unique as Nozawa.
We need a Steve Simmons retranslation of the manga.

I accept your peace offering and extend an olive branch back to you.
