To be quite fair, that's the case with the Funi dub too.
That's getting kind of off-topic, though.

But since people seem to be bothered by this post, I feel compelled to say that I personally remember Adamant once being shocked by a FUNimation dub clip on Youtube. He thought it was a fan parody at first. So I don't think he's trying to be jerk so much as just add another perspective.
That's correct. I've mistaken the Funi dub for a parody several times, in fact. It's quite amusing how the actual parody dub, DBZ Abridged, manages to sound far more professional than the actual professional dub.

And yeah, I know the subject was said to be off-topic, but I'm sure the people bothered by my post would like some actual first-person elaboration, so...

I don't hate the Funi dub. I really don't. Apart from the fact that I stumble upon the odd clip every now and then, and its responsible for some really terrible voices in dub-only video games (which I don't really play either), it's pretty distant from me.

What I do find so silly is that people who grew up on that shit are perfectly fine with making countless posts, threads and videos about other horrible dubs, offer insight such as "I can't believe people actually watched this", "It sounds like they're making fun of the series" and "Those poor kids having to grow up with this garbage instead of something proper", yet go into defensive mode if people dare suggest something similar about the Funi dub. While the Funi dub obviously isn't as bad as this "breathing-into-our-mikes-equals-reading-our-lines" thing, it's way way past the point where it can be taken seriously instead of just laughed at. And still, we got tons and tons of people who grew up on that joke of a dub and saw that as "the way the series is supposed to be", just like these Boys and Girls Club kids saw this as the way it was supposed to be.

When you consider how many people out there consider the Funi dub as "good", "perfect", "better than the original" etc and present themselves as actual die-hard fans of it, the idea that some kids would enjoy this BnGC dub is really not much of a stretch.

So I'm guessing just showing them the Ocean dub was too inappropriate too?

Well I got back from the club itself and got a GT episode. They're GT Intro (TURN DOWN YOUR VOLUME) is horribly dubbed:

but yeah apparently all the dubs were too inappropirate and not kid friendly. smh
GT isn't bad, just sucks ass in comparison to the other 2 animes.

LOL at that, "rendition," of Dan Dan. It makes Step into Da Gran' Touah' sound fucking classy by comparison.

Wait, no . . . its still better than Grand Tour.

In the BnGC dub when someone dies they apparently are asleep or in a coma.

Aside from some of those, you need to get the Over 9000, "Vegeta's Wrath," Final Flash, and SS3 Transformation scenes.

My YouTube

Soppa Saiyjins from Dorgou Ballru Zetto is my favorite transformation everah, especially when Trounksoru did it in front of Seru and when Bejita did it when he faced Jingonigen-hachigo. But for real, I use the FUNi pronunciation. - Soppa Saia People

I just pur random episodes on my flash drive, so I'll check to see if I scored any clips from the Cell or Buu arc. I'm uploading a clip from GT now. The puns are more horrible then all of Funi Season 3

I saw the Over 9000 scene, and Vegeta literally says "I cannot count that high! Ugh!" it's kinda dissappointing, honestly. I'll convert and upload it later.

And here's a GT clip:

Vegeta apparently goes to birthday parties.

AnimeMaakuo wrote:What's the point in censoring such a violent, yet epic series? Dragon Ball is violent for a reason. Now some of you are probably saying: "Yeah, violent shows are meant for adults." Well... That's not entirely true. When people dumb it down, it sets a false mood towards the viewers (whether they're young or old). It steals away from the raw elements of the show, the powerful scenes in which the battle has a turning point; the epic rising, triumph of the good. My oldest brother had his kids watch the original subs, and they absolutely loved it; though they were sucked into the couch because they haven't seen such an epic film before (and yes, their eyes were literally glued to the T.V because they loved it so much). I think it's appropriate to let children (especially your own) watch something like that (IMHO). I can seriously remember the times when I grew up, how I sneaked in to watch the Japanese version every Sunday night.. It made me so proud as a kid to watch something so cool, while other kids were watching little boy shows that made me want to gag lol.

I met a family once.. They never let their children watch a PG-13 movie until they were actually 13. Poor guys.. =/
Uh, you know Toei censored Kai themselves? They edited out a bunch of blood, the most notable instance being when Goku and Raditz get hit with the Makkankosappo. And even when making the original DBZ there were parts that they toned down in comparison with the manga. Why is censoring only okay to you when Toei does it?

Whoa now. I grew up watching the Ocean and Funi dub, but that doesn't mean I like either of them now. I don't. I made that statement being a fan of the original version.

To defend what Funimation did, I think it's good for the franchise that they Americanised their dub because it became really famous because of it. However we got stuck with a shitty dub that's all over YouTube sadly. And YouTube is where every newbie goes to preview stuff they're thinking of getting into. :(

That is terribly true, but let's stay on-topic (Though that is 50% on this topic technically)

I was able to get my hands on a clip of Trunks VS Mecha Frieza. You don't want to hear it.

Forget the voices, I'm wondering just how any kids could stand the mic quality long enough to watch!
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Yes. I'm not sure if they dubbed all the movies, but they did dub the Tree of Might, Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan and the History of Trunks
