I don't think DBS condradicts that scene.Vegeta was ok with the idea that he was second best,with Goku being THE best.But with the introductions of God forms and by training with Whis,Vegeta's ambition of getting stronger than Goku was reignited.Right now,all they have is a friendly rivarly.

But Freeza's beat down of Vegeta was much, much, much, much more juicy, and violent then 18 and her pansy kicks. Also Freeza's beat down has the added bonus of juicy, juicy character development, for the character that I sometimes hate, and love.
