I Know right! He's totally main character material. Hopefully Toriyama gives him a shot in Dragon Ball Super.Gyt Kaliba wrote:THIS is why we need Oob to finally be used properly in something. So freakin' badass.

Even though this has been a decent fight so far, I feel these last few pages have exemplified some of the downsides to Asura's artwork. Now don't get me wrong. He (or she, for all I know) is obviously a very talented artist, with a great eye for laying out panels. His pages are always well-drawn and choreographed. But sometimes I feel he goes a little overboard on minute detail. He tends to use too many lines and instances of thick shading for my taste.
The resulting sensory overload makes some of the action difficult to concentrate on in fights. Asura's best pages are ones that mix shaded areas with ample amounts of-for lack of a better word- whiteness. I've also found that his thin, uniform lineart tends to blend characters into his backgrounds.
It doesn't help that Salagir locks these pages on such a low resolution. Maybe that's why I have a harder time appreciating the more intricate artwork.

100% agreed.ParkerAL wrote:Even though this has been a decent fight so far, I feel these last few pages have exemplified some of the downsides to Asura's artwork. Now don't get me wrong. I much preferred Gogeta Jr's thicker lineart.
I also miss the starry night sky the arena used to have in the background. Never understood why they removed that.
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Because it added to the work load and it wasn't necessary.Marco Polo wrote:

As for the criticisms mentioned regarding Asura's art, they seem like nitpicking to me. There's always one detail or another that we might not enjoy that much about the art style of a particular artist (even in Toriyama's art, I can't say I'm a big fan of how he did the ears of the characters sometimes, for example). But Asura's work, in terms of quality, is as good or better than Gogeta's Jr's.

Nothing is "necessary".
And no one said Asura's work was of a lesser quality so I don't know what you're on about

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Drawing actual characters during the fights is necessary, as well as drawing the things surrounding the fight to serve as "landmarks" to establish the correct locational perspective for the fight. Drawing the sky as night time is not necessary, since the planets on the sky already serve as "landmarks". So, no, some things are "necessary", others aren't.Marco Polo wrote:Nothing is "necessary".

And I didn't say that people were claiming it was of lesser quality, I stated that I felt that the criticisms offered were kind of nitpicking because there is always going to be a detail or another that we might not like as much in a particular art style but Asura's art is not inferior to Gogeta's Jr's overall in terms of quality.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
The night sky enhances the visibility of the panels (like the whiteness mentioned by ParkerAL but also more visually appealing).
Just because it IS nitpicking doesn't mean we can't casually mention it. It's not like we're making a big deal out of it; you are.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
I just answered why they stopped using the night sky (since you expressed that doubt) and commented on the criticisms that you guys mentioned, saying, not that I disagree, but that are basically unimportant overall, hence feeling like nitpicking... And even you agree that I didn't say anything really inaccurate. If anyone got defensive it was you since, even though you don't think I stated anything inaccurate and even though I didn't bash your opinion or stated that you couldn't comment on it, you still felt the need to defend yourself.
