Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
How the hell are EITHER of the versions (Nicktoons or CW) going to edit around certain things that simply can't be edited around?
I'm thinking of Boo's puppy, in particular.
The sniper shoots his puppy, with a rifle, and it's critical to the plot.
Be very afraid...

You aren't too familiar with the lengths anime censorship can reach in North America, are you?Kai_fan wrote:How the hell are EITHER of the versions (Nicktoons or CW) going to edit around certain things that simply can't be edited around?

Maybe they'll take the Viz route and change them to LAZERZ.Kai_fan wrote:How the hell are EITHER of the versions (Nicktoons or CW) going to edit around certain things that simply can't be edited around?

One would think that being completely vaporized would be a bit worse than just being shot.

The puppy is shot by a laser gun. Boo heals the injury. Nothing to it.

"Set it to stun Chief"
"Heh Alright"
*PEW PEW PEW*
*Edits out blood and any real indication of injury*
"Quick Boo restore him"
Something to that extent is what I'm imagining. Hopefully it won't be that ridiculous. CN got away with shooting puppies didn't they?

You know, I never really understood the whole censoring guns into lazer blasters thing. Aren't lazer blasters more powerful than bullets unless they're concussive blasts with stun/kill settings? Kinda understand when they're in US cartoons because they look cool, but never understood censorship value.
Sometimes it goes backwards too. Toon Disney/Disney XD edits episodes of Gargoyles, Batman and Superman that played on Fox, WB, and syndication with no problems.TheBlackPaladin wrote:Personally, I don't get the logic behind editing even more content just because it's a free, syndicated network as opposed to a premium cable network (which is to say, Nicktoons). I mean, they're both rated Y-7, but for some reason the freely-available network is edited more. Did they do the research and figure out that kids whose parents pay for premium cable networks are less susceptible to moral corruption and can therefore handle more?

The problem is, it's possible for a kid to get his hands on a gun, a kid's not going to be able to find a phazer, lazer rifle, or anything like that.

You're right! My rifle sits in a gun case in the living room, but I keep my Photon Blaster safely on the top shelf in the closet.Mewzard wrote:The problem is, it's possible for a kid to get his hands on a gun, a kid's not going to be able to find a phazer, lazer rifle, or anything like that.

Hey, I don't agree with it, I'm just telling what some are afraid of. The creators of Animaniacs in their interview with the Nostalgia Critic confirmed in one scene, to get away with Wakko hitting a Vampire who turned into a bat, with a bat, they had to add bat wings to it, making it okay (The Standards and Practices people are batty >_>).Innagadadavida wrote:You're right! There's rarely logic behind their rules, but that's tv for you.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
I was always baffled by Saban's edit of that scene. Not only were they totally cool with a farmer shooting a regular gun, someone catching the bullet and tossing it back at him at full force but on top of that he lives and basically says "ow, that kind of hurt". Is that just me or does this seem like a worse message then "if a bullet hits you at full force you die"?

Just like how Nicktoons edited the beer that Goku wasn't going to drink. That would have been a good opportunity to be an "anti-alcohol" message, and instead Nicktoons edited it into a nice cold can of nothing.Blue wrote:I was always baffled by Saban's edit of that scene. Granted it's a gun with weak fire power but it's still kind of saying "go and shoot people, no biggie" as opposed to "shooting people is very dangerous and will kill" Then again having Raditz catch a bullet with his bare hands would contradict this anyway (assuming the kid didn't really get Raditz was a subhuman beast and nobody could plausibly manage this.)ShadowDude112 wrote:He stated he was grabbing his "pea shooter" so it's all good in Saban's eyes.Blue wrote:I was always baffled by Saban's edit of that scene. Again though, American TV regulations. Pretty random stuff.
