Ooooh, I like these. Of course, I really liked the sketches for the previous covers, too. I thought the character designs took a step downward in the finalized versions, so I'm hoping that doesn't happen here.

Freeza being in the background, fighting nobody, already sliced in half, if hilarious to me.

Sad to see that Yamcha and Chaozu have been kicked off the cover. It's expected for the latter, but it would have been nice to see the former fighting a Cell Junior or something.

I hope they move Trunks sword since it looks like it should be on the other cover.

Those covers look pretty good. I especially like the cover for Season 6. Can't wait to see them in color.

I've got to wonder, will Paikuhan and company be featured on the cover for "season" seven in any way? Looks like they chose not to represent Garlic Junior at all.

Personally, I hope they just stick with the Buu stuff for 7-9. Sorry to fans of the mini-arcs. If possible, I'd love it if they could fit Kuririn, #18, and Videl somewhere so that all the main characters who participated in the tournament can be featured.

... Too bad my interest in this product begins and ends with the coverart... :?

I was thinking the exact same thing and I hope he is because he's one of my favorite characters. :)
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Is the Japanese mono quality more like that of the Dragon Boxes or the orange bricks?

It's the same source as the Orange Bricks (which really isn't much different than the Dragon Boxes anyway), but with some minor noise reduction and slight equalization applied to make it sound slightly less muffled (though now I think it's a bit too sharp with the high frequencies boosted too much).

Agreed! I can't wait to have these sitting on my shelf. and the way they are releasing them is good for my budget and at the rate I'm going watching the original Dragonball, I think these will be close to completed(Hopefully) by the time I'm done haha :P

It's depressing to know that it's still the same bad artist. Toei should fire this guy.

The art for the new boxes is exceptionally craptastic!
Image

Seriously what the heck is going on in these shots!?
Krillin: Derp sneaking up on 18 fighting Trunks
#19 & #20: let's waive at Vegeta as he flies by!
(uncircled but no less terrible: Freeza being cleaved in 2 but Trunks is fighting 18  and thank goodness they included that scene where Tenshinhan took on all those Cell Juniors by himself...oh wait, and for that matter where the heck is Yamcha if you included Ten?...also love how 16 is just chillen. last but certainly not least...where is Mr. Satan?

Image

But at least it's not as bad as the Freeza akward no look bent fingers bleeeeeh

Dr. Gero: Vegeta, come back to me, I love you!

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Bahaha that is EXACTLY what that looks like! Vegeta is dumping Gero for his one and only Tenshinhan.

Why should they hire another artist? People like the look of this artwork. All things about this release are fitting to each other perfectly. I would say that something else is depressing here...

By the way, I can do similar boxes with better artwork. Is somebody willing to pay me 18$ for it?

Better than both thanks to them touching it up a bit. The cleaner Japanese audio was what got me to start collecting this release.

I'm actually liking these designs. Granted, there are a few odd drawing choices...but all in all, pretty neat.
