Thanks

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.

It is clear that sometime in Mark Satan's life, he acquired the dragon balls and called upon shenlong to grant him immortality.

I remember seeing DBZ Season 1 BD for $16.99 although it was only for a limited time and way after the pre-orders were over.
Amazon usually tries to have a cheaper price than the other retailers but if you live in US and want to get it early then Rightstuf is the one to buy from.

Ah right, thank you! So far the first three seasons that I've bought from Amazon as a preorder were relatively cheaper than Seasons 4 listing ($24.99) and I wanted to hope that this would go down in price before the release date too!

I would be surprised if it doesn't go up after tomorrow since this is when funimation officially unveils the covers for 4,5, and 6

Do you think part 4 will drop to $16? I was kinda hoping it would considering it's been fitting in nicely with my budget.dbboxkaifan wrote:I remember seeing DBZ Season 1 BD for $16.99 although it was only for a limited time and way after the pre-orders were over.

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Weren't the prices for Season 2 or 3 like $19.99 or so? That alone made customers buy Season 2 and to have a consistent collection then force them to purchase the rest whether the prices are high or low.
From the looks of it they're trying to push it out as quickly as possible, which could mean there may be a Fullscreen release coming.

I believe now that If I'm not mistaken that I got season 2 for $16 bucks and I want to say with shipping and stuff it came to $24 dollars.(I believe that's correct) Also I don't see Funimation releasing a release so soon after this one. I think they are just releasing these so fast for Kai or some other release such as the Dragonball or Movies Dragon-boxes.

The only reason Amazon has Seasons 2 and 3 for $16.96 is because they priced matched Walmart. So if Walmart drops Seasons 4 and 5 to $16.96 as well. They will probably stick at $24.99 until the holidays. Which is still a pretty decent price (especially if you have Amazon prime with free shipping ;D).

Hey, remember when we spent 30$ on a single DVD with 3 episodes of Saiyan arc fillers and liked it? Uphill both ways?
Just checking.

Really I thought amazon dropped their price first. I remember there was a while when Walmart didn't even have the blu rays listed on their site.Vash1306 wrote:The only reason Amazon has Seasons 2 and 3 for $16.96 is because they priced matched Walmart. I remember reading what I thought at the time to be a brilliant editorial from VegettoEX (I think) in 2000, about DBZ and anime as niche, and how that's ok. In that there was a line about "And someday, maybe we'll be able to go to the mall and buy a DVD with 4 subtitled episodes for just $15". Times have certainly changed since then.Adamant wrote:Hey, remember when we spent 30$ on a single DVD with 3 episodes of Saiyan arc fillers and liked it? Uphill both ways?

EDIT: I found it! It was written by Sam Spencer IV, not VegettoEX (though it was hosted on that site and later Daizenshuu EX)
"Of course, being a big market has its advantages, and evey animé you could dream of will come to the US if most of our people were otaku. EVERYTHING would get subbed. You coud turn on the TV and watch something subbed. I agree, this would be total bliss. Like a dream come true, really, until your copy of DBZ episodes 288-291 on DVD, now popular enough to have a price tag of 14.99, is sold out everywhere you go."

Nope, Walamrt lowered price first. Amazon is known to price match all big name retail stores (not Rightstuf).qjz123 wrote:Really I thought amazon dropped their price first. Oh how times have changed... Though I do seem to recall actually hearing a comment about that in the podcast too, back when the Dragon Boxes were coming out, where he said something along the lines of "Ten years ago, we never would have even imagined that we'd be able to buy Dragon Boxes in a store for 40 bucks per set"...kidglov3s wrote:I remember reading what I thought at the time to be a brilliant editorial from VegettoEX (I think) in 2000, about DBZ and anime as niche, and how that's ok. And yet I still keep seeing people all over the place complaining about how overpriced everything is. I mean, not for DBZ, people generally seem to agree that FUNi's DBZ releases are actually priced more than fairly, but I see people being all "$40 for 13 episodes of One Piece?! RIPOFF!!!" And whenever I see that I just get an extreme urge to link them to some of the Japanese DVDs just to show how good the western fanbase really has it.
Also I find it funny how that comment says that only insanely popular anime that would make a ton of money would get subbed... when nowadays it seems to be the other way around, that FUNi is about the only company left who consistently dubs their properties, as other studios generally see it as being too expensive and instead just stick to sub-only releases...

Well, at least this set put Piccolo on a cover that makes sense. The Orange Bricks had him on the cover of the set that contained the Saiyaman Arc!
