I didn't like the hair in the large top image, but when you see it from the front it looks good- nice and relatively uneven, not too orderly- enough like Son for me.
I'm ridiculously happy to have this place back. How long has it been again?

13 days. It's been down since the 2nd.
I'm so relieved its back; there is no other place on the internet quite like this. :3

I didn't know you had a forum.
(I really should start reading peoples' sigs more often)
I actually stopped by the daizex IRC a couple times during the outage; but I only have IRC on my laptop so I didn't stop by as often as I'd have liked.

I subsided on the chat we have here (which was kinda confusing to start up, though it simplified after it was set) and the forums that just opened back on the dbmovieblog. Which was.... interesting. There are some nice, intelligent people there, but for the most part it's what you'd normally expect out of a public forum. It's so good to be back here in this community again ^___^

Meh well, I still regularly check our Randomness forum and only one person has made an effort to post there during the recent down time, Caejones. But honestly, I'm not offended or depressed by it. I think that's just silly. *shrug* People just want and like Daizex, heck I really missed this place too. It's unique after all isn't it?
Anyway, back on topic. Chatwin just isn't sculpted enough looking to me. Heck, he looks like he barely did any weight-lifting at all for the part. I wouldn't expect him to look like Arnold Schwartzeneger, but some evidence of bulking up should be there at least.
The hairstyle Rossum has I think is cute and the kind of style I could see a young Buruma having. Wish it was blue coloured though. Chatwin's hair just looks off to me.

I posted this over at the ANN discussion, but I think this sums up my thoughts of the movie pretty well. It was in reponse to earlier comment of having American roles as the main leads (Piccolo and Son Goku) since they were "aliens".
It would make much more sense if they started on the Z-era where their mythological deviations ("Demon King", "Monkey King", etc.,) get completely shafted for a more scientific explanation of their roots. But alas, it seems like their completely ignoring any of the slight Saiyuki referencing for a more epic sci-fi route much like the Z series. Imagine the impact it took on Japanese readers and viewers to find out that the character they so loved and cherished (slightly deriving from a Chinese fairy tale, mind you) actually turned out to be an alien from another planet. While I liked the twist, I like to view as Toriyama's way of saying that mythological and scientific explanations of foreigners/aliens are one in the same (well in the Dragon Ball universe at least).
Asian casting or not aside, While Chatwin's hair styling is as close to Son Goku in the manga/anime, just his general appearance looks to be too dramatic. I thought Goku was cheerful and carefree. But hey, if his acting is anything like Goku is suppose to be in the series, than all the more power to them. I'll somewhat remain hopeful. The way I see it, this movie can go both ways.

I'm back to see your reactions on the movie, and surprise! Just as I thought, most of you are giving it a chance now.
http://www.dbthemovie.com I have translation and everything there so yeah, copying is not cool .
People don't know what "exclusive" means it seems. They'll copy what they want.
For the record that was an exclusive sent to me by someone in Japan and dragonballmovieblog did not source me.DaemonCorps wrote:The DB movie blog updated with a scan from Weekly Jump.
And to put my life at stake, I personally think the hair's fine enough. I mean, what would you want from a live action adaptation?

I like Chatwin's "look" as Goku quite a lot. He doesn't look TOO scrawny, if you ask me. I'm what you'd call "scrawny." I've got no real muscles on my arms, just bones with skin. Chatwin here looks above-average in that regard, at worst. It does look as though he worked out somewhat, and is sporting a more martial artist muscular build rather than body builder proportions. One of my Karate teacers doesn't look much different than this at all, and he's been doing it for almost 20 years. Then of course, the hair is a brilliant balance between 2D and the real world, and what we've seen of the Kame gi so far (via the shot of his stunt double) is pretty impressive.
What I'd like now (aside from a trailer and more promotion material, obviously), is to actually HEAR from Chatwin about the movie, like how a lost of the others have been blogging or raving about it at events, and the like. We've seen a lot of Chatwin as Goku, but the look is all we have to go on so far. I want to hear from him what he though about working on the movie, and his experiences, and the like.
Either the studio is preventing him from talking about it (like how they've allegedly scolded Mr. Marsters for blabbing about his role as Lor Piccolo too much), or he's just not the blogging type, I dunno.
But I suppose all our questions will be answered before long.

Dragon Ball ended in 1997.
Kaboom, Chatwin did mention it a little... http://dbthemovie.com/2008/04/03/new-pi ... -wal-mart/
I asked the up-loader of that video what he said about Goku and apparently Justin said he was trying really hard to understand what direction to take the character.
There's also apparently a Wizard Magazine exclusive in a month or two where Chatwin praises James Wong and explains his training regimen.

I think Goku changes a lot throughout the movie. He has um "saiyan rage" I guess you could say inside him. "Inner conflicts."SSj Kaboom wrote:Hmm, I must have missed that video. Not bad, but it's still nothing compared to what we've been hearing from the others. Speculation about what way to do the character isn't quite as enlightening as it could be. Still, looking forward to that issue of Wizard.

I hear in the 3rd movie Goku will get this black suit that makes him a real dick but super pimp. That will be followed by an awesome 10 minute dance scene.Rory wrote:Like any other teenager with no friends and emo angst.JAPPO wrote:I think Goku changes a lot throughout the movie. Oh come on, I hope you guys are just joking around. Nothing says Goku's going to be an emo loser. Please, let's not get another movie thread locked because of cynicism-fueled arguments, okay?NeptuneKai wrote:\Rory wrote:Like any other teenager with no friends and emo angst.JAPPO wrote:I think Goku changes a lot throughout the movie. Yeah I'm just messing around, the movies actually shaping up to look decent enough. I’m just hoping it won't end up another “Street Fighter” movie, because in my opinion THOSE looked real good at first glance too.
Edit: Do these forums have an ignore button for certain users? I've never really looked around.
