They censored a cigarette?!? I thought smoking was much more accepted in Japan...or something

They didn't censor that shot, they just cut out the shots in which it appeared. It goes flying out of his mouth when he opens it wide; Kai begins with that mouth open shot.

The only shot in which it might be censored is this one:

...from DBZ, but the ciggy is barely visible there anyway. In other words, this shot is cut from Kai:

Thank you for at least restoring some of my hope that not all of the censoring in Kai is utterly retarded. Granted, a lot of it is, but that's not too bad.

I just checked the manga, and my version (not sure about the original Japanese) doesn't have the cigarette, so maybe it's not there because it's supposed to be closer to Toriyama's manga

Could anyone check the original manga?

But like I said, it shouldn't take much thinking to deduce why people find it hard to respect your opinion. Coming on this forum with a pro-censorship POV is about the same as preferring the FUNi dub to the original. The forum's userbase is built around a position diametrically opposed to that, and if you go against the grain you've got to expect you'll get a reaction to that. (And even bearing that in mind, people were pretty civil until you told them to "quit fucking whining".)

And, more to the point, your opinion isn't especially logical. I hate smoking and I have no particular desire to look at a child's penis, but I'd still prefer these things to remain in any media where the creators felt it was appropriate. Being anti-smoking and anti-censorship are hardly incompatible.

I'm sure no one minds that you think the cigarette is unnecessary and can be removed. That's fine, that's a valid opinion. But by telling people to 'quit fucking whining about it,' you're not only telling them that their opinion is invalid and should by kept to themselves, but you're swearing at them while you do it. How can you not see how this might offend someone?

Maybe you don't mean to, but that's how people are taking it.
