Protip: It has nothing to do with enjoying cigarettes or being a paedophile. You don't have to agree, but if you can't understand why someone might think like that - something that's really rather obvious, I'll be honest - you're failing at proper discussion before you even start.

It's not the actual censorship that people are concerned about. It's the idea. KaiserNeko posted something about the penis being covered up that I thought was very interesting:

I wouldn't even call it dirty. The human body is a natural thing, not something everyone should be so uptight about or ashamed of. Sure, don't go walking around naked, but it's not 'dirty' or 'perverted' in and of itself. If someone sees nudity and thinks perverted thoughts right away, that's their problem.

I agree with KaiserNeko. Nudity symbolizes purity. Why do you think Vegeta was naked in Goku's fantasy? Because Goku was hot for him? No, it's because he was imagining Vegeta having shed his armor, the clothing of Freeza's followers.

For the record, I'm not bothered by the censors. But I do think it's weird, just the principle of it, for Japan to start acting that way. I always thought their way of treating nudity was rather mature.

Well, as for the weewee, the purity thing is a pretty good reason. By cropping it out, it's almost as if they're saying there's something wrong with the innocent little naked baby being naked. You wouldn't go to a newborn hospital nursery and demand that little naked babies' lil' johnsons be covered.

That's all I can think of really. I see Kai as a new property so I couldn't care less. They can digitally place clown noses over everybody and I wouldn't complain. So long as I still have Z.

The fact they're censoring stuff now is stupid. I mean, we've seen naked Goku and blood for what -- 20-some years now? It's sad that even Japan has to censor minor shit now.

Besides, since when were nudity and blood taboo in anime? Last time I checked, Shin-chan still shows off his junk on TV. And as far as I know One Piece is as violent as ever.

Well, obviously it's filler in general that accounts for the change in pace. But to bring 18 episodes down to 6? That's a ton of filler right there...

Just comes to show you, when it was first announced that Kai was going to have around 100 episodes some people freaked and couldn't believe it, now it seams very feasible

The 100 episodes thing is still a rumor, no official announcement was ever made. It was a fan theory. But at this pace, it will be about right, I think. 4 episodes of Kai (the first month, essentially) covered the first volume of the Tankoubon. There are 26 'Z era' tankoubon volumes. 4 x 26 = 104.

It's a rough estimate of course. Some of the manga volumes are thicker than others. But yeah, at this pace it's a good rough guess, I'd say.

Edit: By the way, in my copy of the manga, Gyumao has the cigarette for 1 panel. You have to look quite closely to see it though.
