Your Musical Exploits

Post by Chuquita » Wed Jun 10, 2009 5:08 pm

So I go the half-baked idea to try and make my own "Head Cha La" arrangement. I figured, "Hey, I have a copy of the instrumental version, the lyrics, and I can pronounce words in Japanese fairly well, why not?".

However, I did not account for the fact that to sing "Head Cha La", you need to be able pronounce those words VERY fast.
At least, faster than I'm comfortable with singing in Japanese at; my words ended up getting all jumbled when I tried. TT_TT

So I tried "Dan Dan" instead and tried to sing at my own speed without the music behind me; big improvement, but the song and the music obviously would no longer sync up.

Also tried singing it in English (using daizex's translation, not Funi's) but it just felt weird that way. ^^;;

I've since given up; but I had fun trying. So here's my topic-related question:

Have any of you ever tried making your own personal version of any DB songs? Whether you pulled out a 'handy karaoke' or tried to match your singing with an mp3 music file? Do you find certain songs more difficult to sing than others?

I've tried singing the subtitles to the tune thousands of times. It never works.

Although, I can think of at least one great Dragon Ball song:

Oh yes, I love doing this.

I've done some for Cha-La and Dan Dan.
Here's my Dan Dan one
Dan Dan
Bit by bit I'm being charmed
by your bright, shining, and charming smile.
So please come join me
as we face this dark abyss.
Hold my Hand!

Way back then, the very first time we met
I knew that I didn't have need to fret
You took me there, to the childhood days when he wasn't a threat.

Won't you come, won't you please come and dance with me
along this winding road of eternity?

Even now, I'll bet that your lost in thought over him!

There are times when I want to look back a bit
and see the things that I have passed on

But knowing with love and courage and pride being on my side
I'll never give up!

Bit by bit your charming my heart!
Together we'll make sure the world won't be harmed!
We'll stand up and face it all, with eternity in our loving grasp!
Even though I may act like I don't care at all
in the end your are the only one that I saw.
So let's spring forward
out of this endless abyss.
Hold your hand!

I made a custom instrumental of Blue Velvet once! Clicky.

I still think it turned out pretty awesome. :D

I always sing along in Japanese to DB songs!

I created my own English version of Blue Velvet, because I thought the English translation did it no justice. I will try and find it.

I once sang Dan Dan and Hitori Ja Nai at school with my friend playing the melody using his guitar. He's also a dbzgt fan as well. Anyhow, I sang it in japanese, so all my friends were shocked and amazed because I revised the song.

I know how to communicate in basic Japanese(thank you DBZGT) but I'm not fluent in the language. Imagine how shocked they were :D

I'm not from British, America or Japan

I'm new here, by the way

Heh, welcome to the boards, SaiyanBlood and nice little story.

While I never really sang or actively done anything with singing DB songs or translating them for my own use, I did used to always do something similar back when FUNi was releasing their GT singles. By the time the episodes reached "Don't You See?" I'd end up incorporating bits of the subtitles and try to fit them into the song accordingly. It's something, I guess.

We Gotta Power

The mysteries of life are drawing nearer
but that's not a reason to lament.
By a hundred times, our excitment will grow
and we'll become the leaders of the show!

The same ones who are brimming with excitment
have the potential to become your greatest opponent!

NO-TEN P-KAN! There's clarity in the sky!
IPPAI OPPAI! I am feeling fine!
So let it out, don't be coy. You naughty, little boys!
We Gotta Power! Dr-a-gon-ball-Z!

NO-TEN P-KAN! There's clarity in the air!
RA-MEN ROPPA! Mother doesn't care!
So cheer up these troubled times, please brown-eyed girl. Just in time!

Found it!

Blue Velvet
Run to the hurricane, let’s dramatically realize all of those unfulfilled dreams
Nothing will ever scare me now, let’s get into gear now
There is no time to waste no room for compromise
Loneliness, Lonely Night, I never thought that the you who dreams
Could slip out of my arms with such incredible speed, yeah!

Like those shooting stars flying ‘cross the sky at midnight
I can feel these sleeping lips moving on their own
Even though I try, I just can’t reach you – I want you
I’m really just not that kind of girl, oh No No No!
It looks like I’ve fallen for you– head over heels

Yeah Break Care Break
In a spark of utter desperation
We will fly towards the infinite blue sky

We'll take a ride on the nimbus cloud
Where ever we want, that's where we'll go
Looking forward is the only way
We'll head for the top, alright?

This is the planet that I call home
a beautiful blue star that I will save, and never ever let go.

Let it fly, the kamehameha
Far into these dangerous times
I was born to save the Earth, no doubt about it

In a spark of utter desperation
Don't stop short of your full power
Hope is the greatest strength that we'll ever hold
The future is a step away

I don't know if this belongs here, but I recorded a track and I had Dragonball/the Budokai games in mind when I put it together.

I hate to bump an old thread such as this, but I'm in the process of creating a Megaman X2/X3 soundfont(and maybe making a general Capcom SNES soundfont) and I decided to try it out on a midi of GT Ending 4.

Here is the result

I made it in FL Studio 8, but I used a MMX soundfont for the drums, because I don't yet know how to make a drum kit... I've got all of the X2-X3 drum samples ripped I believe, but I don't know how to make a kit out of them...

So, thoughts? Is it good? Is it horrible? Does it make you wanna perform the "Dance of Joy"? Or does it make your ears bleed?

Is megaupload using capchas? I don't remember that!
>.>

*CAPCHA GENOCIDE!*
(Translation: I can't open it. :( ).

Well... I used a combination of Daizex's romanized lyrics and the actual audio to learn Makafushigi Adventure and Cha-la-head-cha-la in Japanese (The short version of chala so far, though. :(. ). I've tried Dandan, but without much success...
So yeah, I spontaneously burst into one of those multiple times a day, it seems. :D

In 2006 when I was trying to do my own podcast (and failed horribly...), I wound up spending a good deal of time in episode2 playing things on a my keyboard, including what was supposed to be Hikari No Will Power (I hadn't looked at the actual music at that point...). The novelty here was that I had a Furby sitting on the keyboard, which resulted in said Furby dancing along. :D
*Considers posting just to cringe at the "Furby Meet Baseballbat" comments* :?

Oh, and just about any time I'd record anything vaguely podcast-related with a musical instrument in proximity, I'd at some point try to play a bit of Chala... for some reason... :?

I did that with One Pieces' "We Are!" opening. And now, thanks to FUNi, I have an actual english version, too! I usually sing them both at the same time, switching between the two every other verse. :P

With Dan Dan, before FUNi dubbed the opening, I had my own english version that I would sing.

Anywhere else I can upload it to?

Rapidshare has a 10 download limit.

I've done drum covers for my own amusement with the songs Head-Cha-la, Rock the Dragon and Falconer's theme. Sadly I never bothered to record them but it was still very fun to do. :D
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Same! Makafushigi is confusing, though.

@MetalWario64: Listening to the file...it sounds Capcomish, so mission accomplished, I think? If I had to put vocals to this song, I think I would like....try and add some sort of vocoder nonsense because it would fit the old-school sound of it all! :o

(MMX is my second love right there next to Dragon Ball, lol.)

Topic wise: Yeah, I do enjoy singing and doing dubs of songs, they're quick and easy to do for the most part. I have a YouTube accountfor that, although whether or not I can actually sing I leave up to pure opinion, I just do it for the fun of it all. In particular, actually, last night I recorded covers of Dan Dan + the Funi English version to try and figure out how to work my new audio program (Adobe Audition) in some enjoyable way.

(somehow Dragon Ball songs contribute to quick record sessions really well... fun and I'm only in front of the mic for like 2 minutes unless I'm doing the full version of the song...:D )
