You hear the characters speak what would be the backwards Japanese and at roughly the same time over their voices you hear the actual Japanese sentence.
Nope, if memory serves right that's the English dub you're referring to.

I might be forgetting something but what happened to Goku's space pod?
Mr. Briefs said to Goku his space pod was destroyed and he couldn't have used it to go to Namek or something.

The pod wasn't intact, but there were pieces of it left, which he used and copied to make the new one. I think.

But why wasn't it intact?

Brief just says it had fallen apart, but all the main parts were intact. Then Goku wonders if he broke it when he was little. That's it.

It's not exactly what happens in the English dub, but it is what happens in the Japanese version. As the hieroglyphs appear on the screen, you hear the character begin to speak in Namekkian for a few seconds, then you hear the Japanese sentence laid over the rest of it, like in news broadcasts where they interview foreigners and have them speak their native language, then get someone to speak English over them after the first few seconds (those first few seconds being there to establish to the audience that the original language is foreign).
In the English dub, the characters speak in English but their voices are made to sound like they're underwater, and that freaky "spine chill" voice effect FUNi is so fond of is added underneath it. No Namekkian language can be heard under the dialogue.
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

They didn't censor the violence of Goku and Raditz's death to make it look more like the manga. To fix the excessive blood in that scene(and replace the gore with a bruised stomach) is never anything fans of the manga have decried as inaccurate to the original manga while plenty of more glaring inconsistencies have remained uncorrected.

It was because it's a show being broadcasted on a weekend morning now, in 2009. There's several reasons I can think of as to why Toei would censor some of the violence in the show now, but until we see more deaths I guess we'll just have to wait and see if they continue with the censoring or not!

None of the others have been censored from what I've seen. The last episode had Dodoria putting his hand through a Namekian, although it was damn quick. The next big moment like that I can think of is Gurd getting his head lopped off.

Which DBZ had already made much lamer than it was in the manga anyway.

Why? 'Cuz Bejiita-sama just shot a beam through his neck instead of a Karate Chop?
