Yamcha? Why no "u" in there? Otherwise I can't picture it being said so cutely by Pu-ehr.

The Toriyama one-shot starring a Yamcha-lookalike that Hujio was thinking of is "Mr. Ho". It came out in 1986, around the time of the RR Arc in DB. Mr. Ho looks like Yamcha's original bandit appearance.

On the Son family's finance: at the start of the Boo arc, Chi Chi wants Gohan to win the Tenkaichi Budoukai and get the prize money because her father's fortune is almost gone, so apparently they were living off of that.

For as much as people save the planet, I think the 'Z' fighters are okay with mooching off of the Briefs family.

Side thought, since the Briefs are such great scientists, i think Doctor Briefs should have built a machine that could harness ki. Like have Goku shoot a VERY powerful blast into some sort of machine and have that be what the planet uses as energy like they do with wind power.

To add to Yamcha's doppelgangers; didn't the title character in Cashman's human form also look like Yamcha? (I also seem to remember a character from that series that looked suspiciously like Vegeta with a bowlcut. And a big hat.) :?:

I thought it was kinda odd how you talked as if Yamcha died constantly, when he only dies twice. Well, that is a lot by any normal standard, but it's the same number of times as Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo, and nothing compared to Kuririn (4, counting GT).

Yeah, I guess he did a little.

You're thinking of one of the "Devil's Children", the two so-called strongest children in the world. Cashman beats them after he happens to run into them while on a date with his girlfriend (well, the girlfriend of the human policeman who Cashman accidentally killed and subsequently took the form of; Cashman himself doesnt find humans attractive, but goes out with her to keep up appearances).

Ok, really, I'm like 30 minutes in to the podcast, why the switch from Yamucha to Yamcha? Is there an explanation why the change back to the dub name? It contradicts my tiny shiny American Dragon Book. >.<

And after some googling, what's with this "Dragon Boy" I hear about? Searching on here just lead to dead-ends. It was posted here before, but both sites linking to it are now dead. Has it been translated, like officially? I've never heard of this before. :|

Hasn't Daizenshuu EX always used the "Yamcha" spelling?

It's a short manga series Toriyama made between Dr. Slump and DB, essentially acting as a proto-DB. Here are some details on it from Daizenshuu 2.

Hmm... I looked back, and apparently Daizex has. Meri's top 5 from episode 30 says Yamcha. I think I'm confused further now.

And I now I feel dumb for not checking out Kanzentai's pretty new section. I might have actually learned something. Like I will right now... *goes to read translation section*

Regarding te scars on Yamcha's face, I am glad they are there as he and Gohan would look a bit the same after the Cell Games.

Why are people shocked over our standard "Yamcha" spelling...? It's not a "dub" spelling... it's a regular ol' spelling of the name that extends just as far back as anything else. And it's perfectly fine. I don't spell "yumcha" as "yumucha", so I spell "Yamcha" as such.

We were talking more about him being out of commission (by choice or otherwise), and not flat-out "dead". Yes, only dies twice... but he's beaten to near-death several more times than that! Other times? "Oh, I'll just sit over here and do nothing, instead..."

Talking about everybody doing Kamehamehas reminded me of this webcomic.

Yes, a Yamcha episode. How I've waited for this.
Okay, I'm a bit overreacting, but I am quite curious, will download!

Yamcha's design is propably one of the most recurring designs Toriyama used in the past.

Let's see... we see the design in Dragon Boy, The Adventures of Tongpoo, Cashman, Mr. Ho, Dr. Slump, and Dragon ball.

Other recurring designs are the designs of Dabra, Lunch, Arale, and now Gohan.

Well, I started to have this problem as well. So, I kinda understand his current lack of creativity in character designing.

So... after finally being able to give Yamcha his episode... who will be the next poor dude? Kami? Because I know that you all hate him.

Yamcha was a big failure from day one. Has he won any major battle? No. Has he done anything of any significance? No. His role in the story is to be a failure, despite his strength. And he even loses this position to Kuririn. Well, at least he's got some cool attacks. And he's voiced by Tohru Furuya in the anime. You can't lose with Furuya.

Voice actor wise, Tenshinhan beating Yamcha is Bright Noa beating up on Amuro Ray. And more than just slap.

My favorite Yamcha moment is him getting a hand jammed through him by Artificial Human #20. I always wondered how the eff does he survive that?! I mean, even if you give him a senzu, he still has a friggin' hole right through the middle of him!

I have to admit, when I first saw Yamcha, I thought he was related to Goku, because of the same gi, the black hair, and the similar face. But I also thought Kuririn was a bald kid.

"Wanna know how I got these scars? My, uh, girlfriend was... a shrill bitch, and a fiend. And one night she goes off crazier than usual. Pu'ar turns into a kitchen knife to defend himself. She doesn't like that. Not. One. Bit. So, me watching, she takes the Pu'ar knife and comes at me with it. 'WHY SO USELESS?!' She sticks the blade in my mouth, 'Let's put a smile on that face!' And... why am I so damn useless?"

I never get that thing in move 9 when Yamcha falls. I mean, the man can FLY.

Piccolo probably came the closest to stealing the Sokidan with his "Scatter Shot" attack. Only, instead of one, he fires off dozens, and instead of darting it around and smacking you up with it, he surrounds you and then pummels you with all of them at once. But it definitely feels like an 'enhanced' version of the Sokidan.

As for Yamcha's outfits, he's got the "Bandit" outfit. His white shirt and blue jeans outfit. Then he wears the orange gi until the Buu Saga where he's got the yellow banana suit. After that... I'm not really sure.

Yeah, why is Yamcha and Tenshinhan paired up together? I thought Tenshinhan was paired up with Chaozu?

So, um, I finally noticed this podcast was up. This is what happens when you vanish for months at a time. I'm Irish, American winters force me to slumber in molten lava just to break even in body temperature. So, I guess, in true Yamucha fashion I'm bringing this back from the dead long after people stopped caring.

I kind of knew what was going to happen with the podcast before I listened to it. You know, they'll their hellos, a little back and forth chatter, the news and then they'd attempt to talk about Yamucha but, in the end, would end up trading favourite lines from my blog for an hour or so. That this didn't happen confused me but I guess an episode about the character himself works too.

I figure Yamucha and Tenshinhan get paired together for a number of reasons. The main one is, they're both crap. Yes, Tenshinhan is better than Yamucha and Tenshinhan got some cool moments in later arcs that my main man didn't but in the end they're both ineffectual fighters who, on a sliding scale, are on a par with each other for general appearances and usefulness. Kuririn is rubbish too, but he's very visible as the physical comic relief whereas Chaozu was so quickly castrated it feels like he was forgotten before his debut. They also play off well against each other (Ten as the straight man, Yamucha is more laid back) and, in games at least, compliment each other well (Ten being the power house and Yamucha bringing the speed).

What else? Um, shame on Meri for dissing the bowl cut! And especially for the chortling at the banana pants. There are some lines that shouldn't be crossed. I was surprised the baseball career didn't get more of a mention. (I know, it's filler, was shown twice in the series and there's not much to say besides "he was good at hitting things with a stick" but still) I was hoping for a mention of his total 4 seconds in all of GT too.

Other things to mention; I don't believe the Sokidan has ever hit anyone more than once outside of a video game. And that's it. You'd think I'd have more to say on him but no.

Thanks for the mention (I love attention!), although my username is pronounced "Sprite Satan" like "Mr. Satan" (because I always had a Mr. Satan avatar from whatever Butoden he was in). ;) I also have an excuse for how Yamucha could father Goten, even with all this Super Saiyan stuff getting in the way that I might post sometimes but it's not something I take seriously anyway.

Still, one of my favourite episodes so far, for obvious reasons.
