Every time I hear dub #17, I hear Hiei or Shin-chan's dad.

And since we're going with ideal recasts, I still say bringing back Scott McNeil for Piccolo would have been the grandest thing to do. ;_;
But, you see, whereas his voice doesn't work with some of those roles, it works with #17. At least, it seems that way to me.

I think both Chuck Huber and Meredith McCoy do great jobs as 17 and 18. I've always said, if there was something in the dub I liked, it was those performances.

This. His role as #17 is the one to compare his future performances too. Many actors can be recognized in other roles. Steve Blum is one of my favorite VA's (going back to his role as Agito/Guyver III), but one can't deny that his Roger Smith sounds almost identical to his Spike Spiegel.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

I disagree. His Roger Smith is a lot more conservative, more stiff, whereas his Spike is much more relaxed.

That's more of a script/personality thing rather than voice. The characters themselves sound almost identical.

Which is proof why direction makes a character.
[quote="Brakus"]For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.[/quote]

Piccolo - David Hayter (Solid Snake)
Freeza - Cam Clarke (Liquid Snake)
Trunks - Quinton Flynn (Raiden)
Dr. Gero/20 - Patric Zimmerman (Revolver Ocelot/MGS1)
Adult Gohan - Beng Spies (Johnny/MGS4)
I have absolutelty nothing to add to the main topic here because my ideal recast is impossible *coughcoughOceancough*, but I just had to let you know that as far as I'm concerned you just won the internet. The whole list was fun, but those ones are just completely awesome :D

So, I was already thinking this before Taku's post. As he said, it was my comment in chat that sparked his MGS-themed cast. Mine's not MGS themed, though. It's just people I think would be good voices, even if they're impossible (such as Tony Jay).

Roshi - Gregg Berger (Jecht [Final Fantasy X], Turel [Legacy of Kain: Defiance])
Chi-Chi - Kari Wahlgreen (Ashe [Final Fantasy XII], Karin Koeing [Shadow Hearts: Covenant], Febronia/Pellegri [Xenosaga/III])
Bulma - Lia Sargent (Shion Uzuki [Xenosaga/III], Clair Lasbard [Star Ocean: Till the end of Time]).
Goku - Quinton Flynn (Raiden [Metal Gear Solid 2/4], Axel [Kingdom Hearts II])
Piccolo - David Hayter (Solid/Naked Snake [Metal Gear Solid/2/3/4])
Kid Gohan - Brianne Young (Jr. [Xenosaga/II/III], Yu Yu Hakusho [Lord Koenma])
Krillin - Steven Blum (Roger Smith [Big O], Spike Spiegel [Cowboy Bebop], Zabuza/Orochimaru [Naruto]
Raditz - Michael Bell (Raziel [Legacy of Kain], The Fear [Metal Gear Solid 3])
Yamcha - Gideon Emery (Balthier [Final Fantasy XII])
Tien - Michael Gough (Jin Uzuki [Xenosaga II/III], Osmund Saddler [Resident Evil 4])
Chaotzu - Jennifer Hale (Young Nigredo[Xenosaga II], Jean Grey [Wolverine and the X-men])
Vegeta - Crispin Freeman (Itachi [Naruto], Tsume [Wolf's Rain], Albedo/Gaignun [Xenosaga II/III])
Nappa - Matt McKenzie (Auron [Final Fantasy X/X-2], Major Elliot [Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within])
Zarbon - Cam Clarke (Liquid Snake [Metal Gear Solid/2/4], Simba [Kingdom Hearts II])
Guldo - Bruce Campbell (I don't think that's needed~)
Recoome - Steven Blum
Burter - Neil Ross (Wolverine [Pryde of the X-men], Colonel Volgin [Metal Gear Solid 3])
Jeice - Michael Gough
Ginyu - Gideon Emery
Freeza - Jonathan Frakes (Xanatos [Gargoyles], William Riker [Star Trek:TNG])
King Cold - Tony Jay (Megabyte [ReBoot], Elder God [Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver/2/Defiance], Magneto [X-men Legends])
Android 17 - Cam Clarke
Android 18 - Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (Julia [Cowboy Bebop], Major Motoko Kusanagi [Ghost in the Shell:SAC/2nd gig], Naruto [Kurenai])
Android 16 - Gregg Berger
Cell - Paul Lukather (Vorador [Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen/Soul Reaver 2/Defiance], Metal Gear Solid 2 [President Johnson])
Mr. Satan - Bruce Campbell
Goten - Tara Strong (Raven [Teen Titans], Ben 10 [Ben Tennyson], Rikku [FFX/X-2/KHII])
Kid Trunks - Jennifer Hale
Videl - Heather Halley (Para-Medic [Metal Gear Solid 3], Chloe Valens [Tales of Legendia])
Kaioshin - Andreas Katsulas (G'kar [Star Trek: Deep Space Nine], Scree [Primal])
Kibito - Neil Ross
Babbidi - Bruce Campbell
Dabura - Simon Templeman (Kain [Legacy of Kain series])

I didn't get everyone, but I was having trouble thinking of good people for some of them.

Peter Kelamis as Goku and Scott McNeil as Piccolo... oh wait those will never happen as much as I would like them to.

While I still prefer the regular Funimation cast, with who's playing young Dende in Japanese, gotta say, maybe Wendee Lee could do good as him.

John Glover as Freeza would make me watch the dub even if they replaced the BGM with Menza.

I don't know why. But, I'd really like Quinton Flynn as Goku. And Brianne Siddall did Little Goku in Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout. She fit like a glove.

I rather prefer Sabat is Jisu still. He got the edge on his Australian accent. In Movie 5, Mike Marco's role as Sauzer has a lighter French accent.

What's wrong with it? Jisu, or rather Jīsu, is a direct romanization from the katakana. Sure, it loses the pun, but then again, so does FUNimation's "Jeice".

Same reason we don't use "Seru", "Torankusu" and "Bejiita." Besides, it's not that hard to get the English equivalent of the pun (Jheese), so...

"Jheece" and its variants are INCREDIBLY recent developments for the name adaptation in terms of general usage in the English-speaking fandom, and Viz actually deserves a little credit for pushing it along.

Back when, ya' know, they did decent stuff.

I waver on whether or not "Jiisu" is a "problem"... if you even want to call it that. It's not like it is the English word "cheese" like your examples of Trunks and Cell (and Vegeta directly being a part of a word) -- that would be チース / chiisu instead of ジース / jiisu.
