It's interesting how some foreign countries seem to get things right that the English dubs get wrong. "Kami"'s called "God" in most countries, right? Though, they do have some of their own flaws, I've noticed.

Re: Kai Episode 57 (16 May 2010)
Well, granted, if we're just talking about the anime (which is what FUNimation would of course be involved with), Trunks was referring to #17 and #18 when he said cyborgs, as the specific line from the manga referencing #19 and #20 had been removed. So by that retconned logic, saying "cyborgs" there would have made complete sense.TonyTheTiger wrote:I don't think it necessarily flew past Funi. Funi just realized that calling 19 a cyborg made no sense so they used android instead. Then of course android doesn't make much sense for 17 and 18 but by that time they were already using the term and for consistency they kept it. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

"Cyborg #16" doesn't make any sense, though.linkdude20002001 wrote:I don't get it. Why use android when there were only ever two androids, but there were at least four cyborgs. Apparently 17 says something about it being strange that Dr Gero went back to using a human base after finally creating a successful android, so it's very likely that most of Dr Gero's creations were cyborgs (1~15, 17, 18, & 20). If that's the case, then shouldn't it be the Cyborg line?

Android 16
Cyborg 17
Cyborg 18
Android 19
Cyborg 20
Now, does that listing make any bit of sense or have any consistency within it?
EDIT: FIXED. I got Android 19 and 20 confused, so no more "HURR HURR 19 ISN'T A CYBORG YOU'RE WRONG" posts

Since there's no all inclusive term in English for the Androids would it be too Wapanese to just leave it as Jinzoningen? Usually I'm all for translating terms into English but when there's no equivalent phrase should it just be left alone?
Edit: Looks like Toriyama doesn't even know what he wants to call them. I suppose if the author doesn't care we shouldn't either.

Jinzoningen itself makes no sense in some cases. No way in hell 19 is even remotely human or pretending to be. Leaving it untranslated would confuse the shit out of everybody watching and still not be any more accurate.

Re: Kai Episode 57 (16 May 2010)
I noticed in the first episode of Kai the Red Ribbon isn't mentioned on the prologue. How is suppose people know what Trunks is talking about in this episode?

How were people supposed to know if they started watched with DBZ?Senzu_Bean wrote:I noticed in the first episode of Kai the Red Ribbon isn't mentioned on the prologue. How is suppose people know what Trunks is talking about in this episode?
Dr. Gero was a massive retcon anyway, he was never mentioned during the actual Red Ribbon Arc.

Well, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z did air one after the other so it's assumed that would be how.dan2026 wrote:How were people supposed to know if they started watched with DBZ?Senzu_Bean wrote:I noticed in the first episode of Kai the Red Ribbon isn't mentioned on the prologue. It's be pretty neat if Toei did a flashback in the next episode or two similar to the one in episode #1.

This is Dragonball Kai. It is an independent story from what I can tell. It isn't DBZ nor DB, so something like this shouldn't have happened.dan2026 wrote:How were people supposed to know if they started watched with DBZ?Senzu_Bean wrote:I noticed in the first episode of Kai the Red Ribbon isn't mentioned on the prologue. Actually, it would be more accurate. Jinzōningen means "robot; cyborg" according to Denshi Jisho. Therefore, it covers all creations of Dr Gero.TonyTheTiger wrote:Jinzoningen itself makes no sense in some cases. No way in hell 19 is even remotely human or pretending to be. Jinzo-ningen can also be translated as android; in fact, I think it usually is (for instance, the Japanese Wikipedia entry for jinzo-ningen gets redirected to the English page for androids).

Kai is just DBZ with the fat cut off and a makeover.

Re: Kai Episode 57 (16 May 2010)
I'm pretty certain jinzoningen requires there to be something human about the machine in question. That's pretty much what "jin" means, "person." You wouldn't call the T-1s from Terminator 3 "Jinzoningen" for instance. But in that respect, #19? Yeah, not a jinzoningen unless the "human/person" part is stretched really thin. If you count the movies, toss 14 and 15 in there, too.linkdude20002001 wrote:Actually, it would be more accurate. Jinzōningen means "robot; cyborg" according to Denshi Jisho. They weren't supposed to start watching with DBZ in the first place.dan2026 wrote: How were people supposed to know if they started watched with DBZ?
It's presented as one, and it has enough background information and flashbacks in the first few episodes to kinda-sorta function as one.dan2026 wrote: How is it an independent story?

True, Kai can function as a standalone better than 'Z' ever could.Adamant wrote: It's presented as one, and it has enough background information and flashbacks in the first few episodes to kinda-sorta function as one.
