Curse of the Blood Rubies WILL Have a New Dub--CONFIRMED

Post by TheBlackPaladin » Fri Nov 12, 2010 7:13 pm

Okay, so FUNimation recently commented on their Facebook page that the movie will indeed have a new dub. It will be uncut and will carry over the re-casts found in Kai (with the exception of the Narrator). According to them, the cast is...

FUNimation Entertainment wrote:
"Dragon Ball - Movie 1 - Curse of the Blood Rubies (Available Dec. 28, 2010) is
is uncut and remastered. Yes, there will be a new dub and new cast:

Cast
GOKU Colleen Clinkenbeard
BULMA Monica Rial
OOLONG Bryan Massey
PANSY Cherami Leigh
ROSHI Mike McFarland
YAMCHA Christopher R. Sabat
GURUMES Jeremy Inman
PASTA Kate Oxley
PUAR Brina Palencia
BONGO Jonathan Brooks
SHENRON Christopher R. Sabat
NARRATOR John Swasey"

Brice Armstrong, the previous Narrator for Dragon Ball, has retired, hence his re-cast. Chris Sabat hinted several months ago there would be a re-dub when somebody asked him on his Facebook and he replied, "You have nothing to worry about. :)" At the time, I took that to mean, "Yes there will be, but I'm not legally allowed to talk about it yet." Looks like I was right. Looking forward to it!

Oooooooh, new narrator... Overzealous fan reading too much into a Dragon Ball OG redub is overzealous?

I've never actually seen the movie uncut, so I just might have to deal with the 4:3 and pick it up.

Oh wow, that's pretty cool. Sabat might as well be the narrator himself, but John Swasey'll probably do good.

The Kai Cast? Ha, fuck that shit, I guess DB Movie 1 will be one of the few DB related things I haven't seen before.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Yuck...I'll just buy an older copy of the movie, or import the JPN version.

Why? It's going to be bilingual, so if you don't like the dub you can always watch the Japanese version. The difference being, in my mind, that if you imported it from Japan you would have to do without English subtitles. Then again, I suppose if you don't care about that and want Dragon Box-quality footage...hmm. Oh well. To each his own.

Dragon Box quality is nice, and I am studying Japanese (Let's see where this goes), I can't stand her as Gohan, so I won't like her as Goku. That's probably why in terms of an English dub, I'd go with an older copy.

But Goku and Gohan are different, so she may actually play the roles differently.

The only other copy of the English dub, though, is the (rather poorly) edited-and-spliced dub back in 1995 with the Ocean cast. If you'd honestly prefer that over the loyal dub that I'm sure FUNimation will probably give it, then...okay.

I'll remain content with the DBox single I snagged from one of Tanooki's sales... a member here by the name of ectc123 or somesuch was kind enough to help me apply his sub script, and I'm good to go.

Shame about Kid Goku... I hope they have the sense to make Colleen Clinkenbeard use a different voice.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Didn't really like Clinkenbeard as Gohan... so yeah.
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.

I am very pleased that we will finally have a complete uncut release. Now maybe they will redub movie 2 and 3. I think that the Kai actors are just as good as the old ones, who knows maybe the new kid Goku will be better than the old one. It nice and cheap ill buy it for sure.

I'll admit I'm slightly disappointed that Stephanie Nadolny isn't coming back. I always thought she made a better Goku than a Gohan, and considering she didn't come back for Kai I thought it would have been a nice send-off for her. Still, Clinkenbeard has got the "cute and innocent young boy" thing down perfect, and she proved she can do "spunky" with her Luffy voice. So I'm sure she'll do great!

Not counting her work from episode #1 of Dragon Ball Kai, this makes Clinkenbeard the tenth actress to play child Gokû in English.

I always liked Nadolny's Goku for Dragon Ball, so it's a shame she's not coming back. However, like you pointed out, there's no reason to doubt Clinkenbeard's talent with this.

One thing I noticed in looking at the artwork for the movie is that it clearly says "Movie 1" on the cover and the spine. The only DB movie to ever receive a legitimate dub was Path to Power, so with a defined cast, it may be possible that Funimation's going to redub the other 3 movies in the process.

Garbage. No original narrator? No Stephanie? What the hell is that crap? Do they really expect us to watch Season 1-5, and then watch the movie with a completely different sounding main character? This is worse than what they did to Rachel from Batman Begins to TDK.
