Looking to Buy: Dragon Ball Z Manga Complete Box Set

Post by ~Azure Essence~ » Thu Jul 26, 2012 10:27 pm

Hi everyone! First time poster, long time lurker. Nice to be here with my fellow rabid Dragon Ball fans!

But enough with the formalities.

Not too long ago...I neglected to purchase the Dragon Ball Z Complete Box Set for just over $191 via Amazon. This later turned out to be a decision I lament over with profound regret, as Amazon sellers have clearly gone bonkers and the price has skyrocketed to over $2000. That price is nearly as nefarious as Dragon Box 2. As eager as I am to add this to my collection, there is no way I am forking such exorbitant cash when I have car insurance, college, and student loans to take care of. I am willing to fork out $250.00-$300.00 tops (and the boxset is worth $185 brand new.)

I have traversed the darkest trenches of the internet, hunting hourly with not even the slightest sliver of luck. Either the item is egregiously overpriced, the website is a scam waiting to happen, or is "Out of Stock."

So...my quest has culminated up to this point and brought me here.

Can anyone help a newbie out here? Thanks!

Those absurd prices may be something called a stacking problem, which MarcFBR mentioned to me not long ago (incidentally, look at the price of this little volume of Spider-Girl! Good thing I already have this one...) Either that or that box really is that rare now, but...that price is still absurd.

I see Japanese versions of the tankobon on ebay that are within your price range, but I don't suppose you'd be interested in them, unfortunately. You might be better off going for the VizBig editions at this point, although certain volumes of those might also be tricky to find for a good price.

Damn, if you were in the UK I'd let you have mine for that kind of money, I still haven't opened it yet :(
Next to get; Leged of Saiyan figures and Freeza's force

If anyone sees
Any of the Legend of Saiyan line going cheapish
Or any other Banpresto DBZ figure :)

If anyone has a cooler steelbook dvd that wants to sell it (prefer new but used is fine) when/if the dragon box movies comes out contact me :)

I know, but the VizBigs do not interest me sadly. Them being edited, along with my OCD to purchase the release in its original 26 volume format, make the VizBigs a no buy.

Ironically...I was literally bidding on this item on Ebay 5 minutes ago along with the Viz Daizenshuu 1.

...I had the highest bid...but the seller only shipped to the UK (which I found out 10 seconds before the auction ended, when it basically told me "lolno. UK only plz.") My heart sank right in my chest. I was more than willing to fork up the extra $15-$20 for international shipping.

You can only imagine my frustration right now.

That's too bad since the Vizbigs are pretty much superior in every or almost every way.

i have a question.

i've been reading the manga guide on the website however i failed to see any american releases of it.
why is that so?

i've been meaning to pick up the manga as well.
these are the easiest to get where I'm from - Image

These are the VizBig collection to my understanding.

is there something wrong with it?

i'd love the Japanse Kanzenban collection but i'd honestly prefer something in a language i can read and understand.

It is the best release by Viz and most likely the best we will get. It isn't in the manga guide because the manga guide covers the Japanese releases exclusively.
If you are beginning your collection of the VizBigs now you might have to search awhile for the 8th Z VizBig unless you are fine with paying a lot for it.

Well you know, the 26 tankobon style release is also edited to a certain degree. It can even depend on which printing you get. Some years were less edited than the VizBigs, some years were more or less the same, and I'm sure there are versions that have way more censoring. You're never quite sure what you're going to get!

I've only read the first three little digest books of it, but I like it enough to want to get more. S'pretty good.

The VIZBIG editions remove the nudity in Dragonball and brighten the language in Dragonball Z, but other than that, I think they're identical to the individual US volumes.. However, I think it would have better if they covered the Kanzenban volumes, kept the spine image and color in all chapters that had color.
The world's greatest.

I'd sell you mine but I've never dealt internationally before apart from buying, and I'd be sketchy about recieving the money etc as $300 is around £200 which is just over what I paid (£170) and they're still sealed since I tried to read a vizbig and it's just not like the anime so I switched off.

Best of luck finding them for a decent price though.

The description makes it seem like its the more edited versions too. When you get them can you tell us whether they were heavily edited or not compared to the Vizbigs?

I think it will be about the same. The newer editions haven't been heavily edited and these boxes are recent, they use recent editions for their volumes.
