Michy Batshuayi (Chelsea striker) has a life-size statue of Goku and more DB stuff:

So apparently the Dallas Mavericks did some Dragon Ball Z video for their Twitter.

Re: Any celebrities that like Dragon Ball?
Ronda Rousey had a crush on Vegeta as a kid and I've seen Bill Bailey and Shaquille O'Neal wear DB shirts.
Also, Steven Universe made some references to Dragon Ball Z, which annoys me because even though SU has a good message, it's a fairly uninteresting show with an unlikable protagonist that seems to exclusively cater to Tumblr trash.

It's just a bit disheartening to see something I love reflected in something I dislike. From what I've seen, SU is basically an annoying kid who lives with 3 gay aliens despite the fact that his father is still alive and well and living in the same town that has a bit of action but fails to attract my attention. Dragon Ball, on the other hand, has characters that I grew to love instantly as well as a story that got me hooked for my short life after watching the 1st episode and is packed to the gills with action. In other words, the two shows are basically the opposite of each other.Kanassa wrote:It annoys you that a show you don't like references DragonBall?floofychan333 wrote:Ronda Rousey had a crush on Vegeta as a kid and I've seen Bill Bailey and Shaquille O'Neal wear DB shirts.

I'm not sure if people would call Elliott Hulse a "celebrity", but as far as Youtube stars go he's pretty high up there.
This tweet he posted, and some of his comments on Facebook indicate he at least has an interest in the mythical/spiritual side of the series.

Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

Re: Any celebrities that like Dragon Ball?
This thread is almost an oddity to me. I remember in the late 90's being in high school, and sometimes drawing Son Goku pics while in class. Someone would look over and be innermonologue-ing like "What's that? Ok... he's one of those weirdos. I'm staying away from him". It's funny how not too long after DBZ caught on in a huge way, it's just that nobody seemed to want to admit it openly.
Now it's trendy and cool for celebrities and notable-types of all ages to acknowledge, express, and show-off their love for Dragon Ball. I love it.
I knew that I wasn't crazy back then.

I think something that interests me is that Rebecca Sugar mentioned she watches subs over dubs, yet for some reason I feel that her experience is similar to the vast majority of English-speakers in that the old FUNi adaptation was her main exposure to anything Dragon Ball-related.floofychan333 wrote:It's just a bit disheartening to see something I love reflected in something I dislike. Los Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen notes he watched a lot of DBZ as a child in this ESPN article.
Referring to Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell being an avid Pokémon fan:
"I watched Pokémon a little bit. I was more of a Dragon Ball Z type of guy. I was watching more Dragon Ball Z growing up. So I get it,"

Don't know if it's been mentioned or if you would even consider her a celebrity, but porn star Madison Ivy, is a big Dragon Ball fan. She posts doodles she does of characters from the show somewhat regularly on her twitter account. A lot of them are actually pretty good.

Well, PelleK may be one. Not sure if he's officially stated it or not, but he's covered some Dragon Ball opening themes. As for his celebrity status, he may be just a youtuber, but he was famous enough to be on his country's (I think it's Norway?) version of Dancing with the Stars.
Here. Check these out if you're interested.

He has some spanish covers to.
As for who he is, he usually does metal covers of anime songs nowadays but he used to do covers of famous metal songs and metal covers of famous non metal songs, which he calls "Metalizations". And he's damn good too.

Re: Any celebrities that like Dragon Ball?
I still sort of feel that most of these people love FUNi's old adaptation rather than having interest in the actual themes & tone of what makes DB, DB. After all so much of the fan discussions on DB revolve around how "not DB" FUNi's adaptation is.
Not saying they aren't "real fans" (an eyeroller if there ever were one), just that the show that they're into isnt necessarily the show that this site is centered around. Like, Voltron isn't GoLion, etc...& it's weird because most of the time we speak of the dub as a very separate entity.

Re: Any celebrities that like Dragon Ball?
Definitely so. However I feel that it's definitely a minority & FUNi's DB had a much wider reach than a reasonably good DB dub (circa 1998) would have had. In the same way that Voltron is bigger than Gundam, Power Rangers is bigger than Sentai, etc. I can certainly believe that plenty of the fans would still be fans of a well-represented DB (I mean much of this community was introduced through FUNi's DB), however my hunch is it'd be much more of a cult following. However there is already a thread on that & I don't want to derail the thread.8000 Saiyan wrote:I'm sure that there are some people who like Funi's DB who have interest in the themes of DB.

Barry Allen was a fan so much so that he joined his school's anime club.
