I`ve got this poor excuse of a boxset back in 2005, for 60 dollars, i didn`t know it was bootleg, i was not familiar with DBZ DVD history back then, i only wanted to start collect episodes, but every Saiyan Saga set i wanted to get had only English dub, that way i bought this on auction:

Boxset pictures:

As you can see, it`s written in horrible Engrish language, it`s hilarious mismatch of other DVDs, even one from Paramount Pictures, it contains only Japanese original dub and Chinese/English subtitles,

Menu:

It`s strange mix of footage from movies, that Dragon Box Z exclusive special, with Goku vs Freeza, Cell, Gohan turn SSJ2.

Episodes:

Boxset contain episodes 1-27, what`s strange, is that, it doesn`t contain half of episode 14 (It skips right to 15 after intermission card) and it contain only one Episode Preview, of episode 25, quality is pretty good, however, footage tends to flicker during shaking scenes. Subtitles unfortunately, are horrible, names are changed, like Sun Goku, and words are sometimes translated in Animelabs way

"So that little punk is Goku's son" lol

It looks like the video is interlaced (is it?). Besides that, the quality looks good.

Episode 24 on the real Japanese DBOX set is also interlaced during the first half, so it looks to be a direct copy from it, just with extra compression.

Browsing on eBay and found this:
Image

Dragonball the animated TV series. This is the first two DVD box sets, 1 (episodes 1 - 52 over 6 discs) and 2 (episodes 53 - 104 over 6 discs). The first box set also comes with a bonus soundtrack CD.

These are used and in generally good condition. The outer case of box 2 does have quite a few noticeable marks. The discs are all in excellent condition.

The episodes are in Cantonese or Japanese with English subtitles. They are multi-region but NTSC.
My Saga Sets are in 22 discs and even that's not enough to keep the quality without being compressed much less 12 discs.

The malaysian cartel runs the media industry over there. They bootlegs are authentic, and nobody gives a rat's ass. They just buy them. Usually you can find full complete sets of tv shows for 15 bux. It makes pirating a hassle, pisses the western music industry off, but generates lots of revenue.

They even sell OS keygen keys as new.

You gonna tell Malaysian cartel to back down?

The pirated shows sometime feature fansubs, with VHS quality.

But their packaging is awesome.
That time your teacher asked you to draw Cell in biology class.
This man is my hero:
To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.

You got the packaging right, I got a lot of bootleg anime malaysian DVD's and while the quality of the video and subs itself can range from really good to absolute shit the packaging is always amazing.

Another Dragon Box: Dragon Ball bootleg has shown up on eBay UK.

The description the seller's given it is quite funny:
This box set is a Japanese import and extremely rare. I couldn't even find another on Ebay.

The Item is minted, no scuffs or wear and the discs haven't got a mark on them. Box set has a total of 6 discs including all 1 - 153 episodes of Dragonball.

I just tested one of the discs and it worked fine on my PS4 so region 2 is supported.

Very amazing box set for a hard core collector.
"Extremely rare" I guess they think people who're buying these things don't know they're bootlegs. Reported.

It's probably much easier to hire some random artist on the internet to help you design the package and then find the materials nowadays. It takes a decent amount of effort, but it's possible.

As far as the video is concerned; if the goal is to cram as many episodes into a smaller amount of discs (within reason), then video quality is not great importance. Also the sources people have these days (Dragon Box singles, various Blu-ray releases) give people more flexibility compared to like 10 years ago.

According to what the seller told me it's Region 3 and with Chinese subs, is it a bootleg? It looks like it but in terms of packaging and cover design it's better than what FUNimation has done.

I have a similar set to what was posted earlier. It's so shitty. Bought it for like £10 from Malaysia about 7 or 8 years ago.

Yeah...imagine that blown up to your TV's size. It's horrible.

The subtitles are also just machine translated from the other Chinese subtitle track on the box.

Goku is Goku fortunately. Most of the character names are fine, it's just the sentences themselves.

So basically like the Hong Kong Yu-Gi-Oh subs?

Does it include the NEP's? If I saw it for £10 I might pick it up but on ebay some guy is trying to sell it for £50!

Wow, so basically funny subs aside this is pretty much the worst Dragon Ball bootleg?

After chatting with the seller of the awesome looking DBZ bootleg he decided to post more pics and oh my god, how cool is that! The reversible covers have each character printed on them as well as the discs! :D

O-oh my.... Those are gorgeous, I hope the video quality is too!

Anyway guys I saw this boxset containing Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT for £49

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dragon-Ball-D ... 3a91732079

The box looks pretty nice but the item description leaves much to be desired...

Either way I might pick this up but I got a feeling it's gonna be compressed to hell
