My theory is because Dragon Ball Super will take over for DBZ Kai. Plus there's the fact that they can get more money by selling more episodes internationally...

KaiserNeko is the editor and one of the actors on Team Four Star's Dragon Ball Z Abridged.

As for the Kai episode count, that's a good question. I've wondered a lot about how the international version of Kai and the Japanese version of Kai differ. The green tint I've heard of isn't an issue in the version FUNi will get, is it?

There's a lot of filler in those episodes, but they're built in with the manga material in such a way that they're hard to edit without becoming totally disjointed.
