Something I realized is I don't know who owns Dragonball. And I don't mean the distribution rights,so please don't say it's a mix of funimation, and Toei and shonen. Does Shonen jump own the rights since it start in jump? Does Toriyama own it? Or did he sell it? I think Studio period owns Naruto so I don't know.
From what I read on here on Kanzenshuu translations I noticed Kai was made because Toriyama told Bandai NO to a new series,so Bandai made Heroes. And Toei did kai. Is it because while alive he has control over what's ok and not okay but still doesn't exactly own it? Or did he and then he sold it recently?
Not quite sure how manga rights work,I know if you pitch a show to nickelodeon they own the rights to the show and can fire you. BUt that's the USA. Did Toriyama sell his right to Toei?
And since this is semi part of why I wanna know, what will happen when Toriyama passes away? Who owns it then? Will he sell it off? Can he even do that still? Thanks.
Who owns DragonBall? Toriyama? Toei? Squidward?

This thread from back in August should answer all your questions.

Shueisha - Main license holder
Toei - Animation license holder
Bandai - Merchandise license holder
Toriyama - Creator
Toriyama is the creator of the series, but he does not have control over the entire license. If you want to do make a DB movie then you would go to Shueisha, not him. Just like you would go to Marvel to make a Spider-Man movie, not Stan Lee.

Haven't we already gotten these in GT? Goku dies, the DBs go away, and the Namekian DBs most likely won't be used again because of the Evil Dragons.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.
