I already knew it was a joke from the start, but how did people learn about AF? Was it a made-up trailer, manga or anime?

The original AF was a Doujin and a replacement to GT. But, of course, as always happens with these things, people found some of it, read some of it, and then told friends about it, and everything spiraled out of control from there. For instance, there's no such thing as SSJ5 in AF. That silver haired SSJ form? That's AF's SSJ4. But somewhere along the way most people dropped the 'GT replacement' bit from what AF was (just like they dropped the Doujin bit).

I think they already knew that AF is a fake, so they only made them for fun.

In 2005 I thought Super Saiya-jin 5 Goku and Dragonball AF we're real until my school friend told me they're just fanmade images.

I consider these real What If Transformations (as listed bellow).
SSJ3 Vegeta
SSJ4 Broly
SSJ3 Broly
SSJ4 Vegito
SSJ3 Gogeta
SSJ3 Vegito

Read the comments of some of those vids. Some people really believe AF is real. It's sad.

The videos were removed form Youtube. Is there any chance of getting them back up?

Or any chance of a 2010-Remake of the commercial using DragonBox footage? :P

Why doesn't FUNimation realease DragonBall AF? where is it? in Area 51 or sumthing?
FUNimation Responded with:
There is no such thing as Dragon Ball AF. Urban/anime myth.
It's funny to know that this thing is STILL floating around there.
Funimation should have responded with "Well yes, it is in Area 51 where only his royal highness E.T. is allowed to watch it. Now begone you peasant!"

Even leaving the date aside (April 1st) I noticed a few little things that gave it away. For one, the pint ad using an old and very well known 'AF' picture.

Second being the commercial. Make no mistake, it was excellent, and that's what gave it away. It had DVD quality for something that was supposedly taped off the television (and who the heck tapes commercials?).

So, where is this commercial anyway?

Prank or not a prank, the AF fanon manga was actually pretty good. Too bad it ended abruptly right in the middle of what could have been a fairly decent plotline. Had it been continued (and given it were not shut down) it would have been quite entertaining.

You mean Toyble`s manga? Its still ongoing. The author just takes a very long time before releasing new pages. Here: http://daizex.fanboyreview.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4470

Am I the only person who thinks "SSJ5" looks better than the "SSJ4" we got in GT? I liked the basic concept of both, mixing Oozaru with the base-Saiyan form, but I definitely liked the fact that AF's version looked like a genuinely upgraded version of the third form. And I thought it was neat that "SSJ5" had silver hair and a silver aura, which is a reversal of the usual association of gold with being 'superior' to silver (a gold medal for first place and a silver for second, for instance). If only it weren't a joke...
