Established? The only thing established was Bardock getting his face shown in the manga, thus making him canon.
The special, was and is a movie that has no relevance on Bardock's actual personality, which was finally shown in Minus after 20+ years.

Bardock's "new" personality comes from Dragon Ball Online, actually. Dragon Ball Minus just "popularized" it (and half of Bardock's personality resides on Toriyama's words that we don't get to see on-screen/in the manga).

How couldn't it ? he debuted in that special and that was his only official material for 20+ years.
His personality was established in the special which came out 25 years before minus.
As far as I can tell, Minus was nothing more than a cash grab from an author who's been losing his touch ever since BOG.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
