Dream Theater and Funi's Trunks Special

Post by Sun_Wukong » Fri Jan 12, 2007 2:49 pm

Anyone know how this came up? Its a pretty obscure band for Funi to use. It mustve set them back a few.

Ah.. I was wondering if this would ever come up on the forum.

Yes, the dub of the Trunks T.V special has background music all provided by the band Dream Theater.

The dub came out right after the release of Dream Theater's album "Scenes from a Memory(my personal favourite album of theirs)," which was a concept album (means it tells a story).

The entirety of the TV special was this album but with the lyrics taken out.

In my opinion it was one of the best things FUNi ever did.

Indeed, especially the last track: " Through Her Eyes ", that last scene was made all the more touching with that song playing in the background. *Sniffles.

Really? I remember just thinking, "What the hell? This....song.....has nothing to do with anything remotely related to Trunks." And I'm afraid I still think that. >>

'Through Her Eyes' might be a nice song, but it's about a girl who was murdered. The 'Scenes From A Memory' album is all about murder, hypnosis, regression and coming to terms with the past. The songs are pretty good as instrumentals, but when you take the lyrics into account, it has very little to do with the Trunks special.

Hmm, I never took the lyrics into account I guess. Other than that however, I thought the intrumental side helped to enhance the scene's mood?

Dream Theater doesnt do the entire soundtrack. There's a few other obscure bands in there. There's also a rap song played when Gohan looses his arm.

That rap scene actually matched that scene pretty well, in my opinion. Many would probably think otherwise, but that was the version I was first exposed to =P.

I'll buy the Trunks TV Special dub soundtrack just for the final Gohan Vs #17 & #18 battle track alone. That was a really badass track.

Good luck, I dont think one was ever released. I can tell you the Dream Theater songs they used though,

-Overture 1928
-Strange Deja Vu
-Home
-Fatal Tragedy
-Through Her Eyes

Jodaku, I believe Fatal Tragedy is the track youre looking for.

That boxset is creepy... Anyway yeah I remember that music really not relating to the movie at all personally. There were a few places where it fit but all in all.... t'wasn't that good.
