I'll always have a soft spot for our own Cartoon Network as it was from 1993 to 2005/6, it all went downhill after that point but the memories will never leave me. Here's all the Cartoon Network and Adult Swim airings around the world I'm aware of:
UK & Ireland
Dragon Ball Z: Premiered March 6, 2000 with the Saban dub weekdays at 5pm followed by repeats at 9pm, as well as weekends from 5-6pm and 9-9:30pm slots. The UK channel also had a 'Dragon Ball Z Rewind' block from 11am-12:30pm and 9-10pm on Saturdays as well as 11am-12pm and 9-10pm on Sundays. The channel also had many 'Saga Sunday' marathons. When the Toonami block launched on December 18, 2000 Dragon Ball Z was airing 3pm-5:30pm. Episode 108 aired on April 4, 2001 and with that the Westwood dub premiered in the largest territory Ocean could sell it to through their European distribution partner AB Groupe. Just over a year later the Buu saga premiered on April 8, 2002, by this time Dragon Ball Z was airing at 6-7am weekday timeslots and another at 5:30-6:30pm but over the next few months timeslots were gradually phased out and the show left the channel forever when CNX launched on October 14, 2002, which is where the rest of the series and GT premiered, followed by original Dragon Ball on Toonami. Only episodes 1-238 (edited numbering) ever aired on our main Cartoon Network.
United States
Dragon Ball: Debut on the channel's Toonami block was August 20, 2001 with new episodes airing weekdays at 5.30pm. The first batch of episodes was broadcast until November 29, 2001. A second batch ran from December 31, 2001 to February 28, 2003. Finally the remaining episodes were shown from September 1, 2003 to April 15, 2004.
Dragon Ball Z: Premiered in August 31, 1998 on the channel's new Toonami block, which also ran episode 10 (always skipped in syndication) for the first time on September 14, 1998. Three episode version of Tree of Might aired January 29, 1999 at 4pm. The inhouse dub first shown on September 13, 1999. Following the end of the series in 2003 it was rerun in both edited and uncut (from 2005) forms until March 22, 2008 when the series left the channel.
Dragon Ball Z (Uncut): I guess you could call this a "re-premier", as it was the first time the series aired on US TV unedited. The first episode aired June 2005 at 10:30pm slots Monday-Thursday, although from October 15th that year it was moved to 7:30pm. From that point a new episode aired every Saturday except for the weeks of October 22, November 19, November 26, December 24 and December 31 that year. After a rerun of The Strangest Robot the week before Toonami switched from the uncut dub back to the edited Saban dub on January 21, 2006 with Escape From Piccolo, both airing at 7:30pm. Following the week of February 11, 2006 Dragon Ball Z didn't air at the 7:30pm timeslot again until April 15th where it ran for another 4 weeks before another break and picking up again on June 3rd. There was more shifting around of different dubs at this time as A Fight Against Gravity... Catch Bubbles! was the last episode to air in February only to be followed up by Mighty Blast of Rage in April and stopping again after only 3 episodes of the Garlic Junior saga. Dragon Ball Z remained on Toonami in reruns until 2008 with the final reran episode The Fight is Over being shown one last time on March 22nd.
Dragon Ball GT: First airing was November 7, 2003 at 6:30pm with new episodes every Friday starting from broadcast episode 16, which was Funimation's A Grand Problem recap episode
Movies: World's Strongest and Dead Zone aired at the same timeslot as the three episode version of Tree of Might on February 5, 1999 and February 12, 1999 respectively. Dragon Ball Z movies 1-3 aired again with the edited Pioneer versions and movies 4-6, movies 12-13 and the 2 TV specials premiered all in late 2003 at 6pm slots. Some examples:
- Bardock: The Father of Goku (September 5, 2003, rerun on January 16, 2004 and May 8, 2004)
- History of Trunks (September 12, 2003, reran on January 23, 2004 and May 15, 2004)
- Cooler's Revenge (September 19, 2003, reran on January 30, 2004)
- Return of Cooler (September 26, 2003, reran on February 6, 2004)
- Lord Slug (April 24, 2004, although this aired at a slightly later 7:30pm slot)
- Fusion Reborn (November 11, 2006)
- Wrath of the Dragon (December 2, 2006)
Netherlands
Dragon Ball Z: Premiered August 28, 2000, two episodes aired every weekday at 5pm and 5.25pm with episodes 1-2 premiering the debut day, and every weekday from that point there was a repeat of the previous episode followed by 1 new episode. This pattern continued until January 25, 2001 when the series reached episode 110 and then took a 3-month break. The series aired with Funimation's English dub for the first 107 episodes (edited numbering), and on January 23, 2001 the Westwood dub aired for the first time worldwide with episode 108. In the 3-month break before episode 111 all 110 episodes were rerun from January 29, 2001 and April 13, 2001 with 2 episodes every weekday, although with no new premiers it was now 2 a day Monday-Friday or 10 episodes per week. The series resumed on April 16, 2001, continuing from episode 111 with the previously established pattern of 5 new episodes a week with 1 repeat followed up by the previous weekday's new episode, except for the first day of the run, which was 2 new episodes. This second run of episodes continued until June 7, 2001, which featured a rerun of episode 149 followed up by the premier of episode 150. Episode 150 was the final episode shown on the Dutch Cartoon Network, which closed on August 1, 2001 and was replaced by MTV. The Dutch branch of Cartoon Network was replaced with the Pan-European feed that the channel didn't have the rights to Dragon Ball Z for, so for further episodes Dutch fans had to watch Yorin.
Australia and New Zealand
Dragon Ball: Premiered on Cartoon Network in 2002 as part of the Foxtel Cable TV package.
Dragon Ball Z: Followed original Dragon Ball on the same channel in a stop-and-go fashion, airing the Saiyan arc of the series, then starting from the beginning and continuing onto the Freeza arc, restarting after that and probably a few more arcs like Garlic Junior and the Androids until the Cell arc, and one last time until it concluded with the Buu arc. The Kid Buu saga premiered in June 2003.
Dragon Ball GT: Followed Dragon Ball Z on the same channel, premiering April 2004.
Movies: First 6 Dragon Ball Z movies possibly aired sometime in 2004.
Dragon Ball Kai: Was supposed to premier May 16, 2011 Monday-Friday at 7:30pm but was delayed, likely because of the Yamamoto scandal and began November 1, 2011, much like Kix over a year later exclusively with the Kikuchi score. Australia was the first country where episode 98 was aired, as up until that point it had been a home video exclusive elsewhere.
Southeast Asia
Dragon Ball Kai: Premiered on August 15, 2011 and was shown weekday nights from 9pm across the continent. There are conflicting reports about whether Vietnam got a dub or a voiceover, although it later got the former when it aired on HTV3.
Movies: Fans on Reddit have recalled all the movies airing in 2016 or 2017 without promotion on morning slots, specifically in the Philippines, but the same may apply to other Southeast Asian countries.
Taiwan
Dragon Ball Super: The local Mandarin dub aired between August 21, 2016 and September 14, 2016 but only the first 52 episodes were shown. Sometime between then and 2018 further episodes were shown and by March 2018 the Universal Survival arc was airing, which I've heard was the first international territory to get these episodes.
India
Dragon Ball: Cartoon Network ordered 49 episodes but it was reportedly a flop and a major loss, which caused them to not dub the Kid Boo arc for a few years. The series aired in Hindi between 2009 and 2010, likely only once as recordings are extremely rare.
The series returned to Cartoon Network India on August 25, 2024 with a Hindi redub as well as 4 new dubs in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, airing Sundays from 2pm. The 21st Tenkaichi Budokai arc began in September. From October 1, 2024 it was shown weekday nights at 9pm.
58 episodes have been shown, and it is not known whether or not original Dragon Ball will return to the channel.
Dragon Ball Z: Premiered sometime in 2001 and ran for a few years. According to some YouTubers Toonami operated separately and booked timeslots from Cartoon Network, charts shown indicate Dragon Ball Z was aired between 5pm and 9pm. The following December it was shown Sundays at 10am-11am and 7pm-8pm double bills. Fans reported the series stopped at the end of the Freeza arc around 2004 or 2005 and only moved past it in 2008.
On June 6, 2016 Dragon Ball Z returned after a 7 year break at 9:30pm timeslots and aired in Hindi. The show was airing 2 episodes a day Monday-Friday at 9:30pm and it also had a 11pm slot the same days. The Freeza arc was skipped allowing them to reach the Cell Games episodes by July. The 11pm timeslot at least remained until November.
Apparently Toonami Networks agreement with Cartoon Network only lasted until 2017 and after that point they could no longer buy airtime from them, although of course by then they had their own channel. The series aired in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu feeds.
Dragon Ball GT: In a now deleted video Vegeta's Hindi voice actor Prasad Barve confirmed GT would air on Cartoon Network India after Super if it was successful. The local head of Cartoon Network Uttam Pal Singh apparently corroborated this privately to fans, although to my knowledge GT has yet to air.
Movies: Tree of Might and Lord Slug aired on May 7,2012. Cartoon Network later aired sometime in December 2017 Sundays at 10pm with Hindi dubs. In 2023 some of the movies began airing with Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada dubs generally at 12:15pm on their respective debut dates except the first Broly movie, which was shown at 11:30am. The movies aired in all five languages were Cooler's Revenge (April 23, 2023), Super Android 13 (May 7, 2023), Return of Cooler (May 21, 2023), Broly : The Legendary Super Saiyan (June 11, 2023), Bojack Unbound (July 23, 2023), Fusion Reborn (August 20, 2023, and rerun September 16th at 6:30pm), Wrath of the Dragon (September 3, 2023, and rerun the same day two weeks later).
Specials: GT Special airedDecember 30, 2017 at 10pm.
Dragon Ball Kai: Was thought to be coming to Cartoon Network in 2012, although reportedly by November it became known it was not going to air on Cartoon Network that year, but was going to be shown on Toonami India with GT and original Z early the next year. It is not known exactly when the show began airing in India, it was once more expected to air on June 1, 2014, but it became postponed till 2015. Information on 2015 is scarce but one fan recalls watching it at midnight in March that year. The only evidence of a Kai dub from this time appears to be brief clips from recordings, which show the OP is based on Funimation's uncut footage.
The series finally returned on April 16, 2023 with Hindi (fans who seen the brief clips from 2012 claim this was a new dub), Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada dubs. A marathon followed Cooler's Revenge from 1-5pm on the aforementioned date it premiered. The Namek saga premiered May 7, 2023 and The Cell Games saga began on August 5, 2023 at 1pm.
Dragon Ball Kai: The Final Chapters: Premiered on August 19, 2023 in all five languages Kai aired in and new episodes were shown every Saturday. There may have been a short break, as one promo aired promoting new episodes airing from October 8th that year at 11am. The series wrapped up on November 12, 2023, and began a rerun on March 23, 2025 taking One Piece's timeslot on Sundays from 1pm-3:30pm.
Dragon Ball Super: The Bang Zoom dub moved from the Toonami India to the local Cartoon Network on September 1, 2017 at 10:30pm on weekends, and it was moved to a 10:45pm slot, which included Fridays on September 7th.
On May 22, 2022 Super premiered again at 9am slots this time with Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubs, and also shown weekdays at 7:30pm. By the time the Universal 6 arc premiered on June 12, 2022 new episodes were shown at 1pm every Sunday, and then 9:30pm (the latter timeslot was also when the Copy Vegeta arc[url] aired in July of that year) for the Universal Survival arc, which began on September 19, 2022 with episode 75.
Dragon Ball Super had a few reruns since. From [url=https://www.instagram.com/p/DAco079sqv-/?hl=en]October 1, 2024 it was rerun weekday nights at 10pm, and a few months later on March 17, 2025 it was shown the same days at 9pm.
Pakistan
Dragon Ball Z: Reportedly premiered sometime in the late 2000s with Funimation's dub, maybe as early as April 2, 2004 as this was when the local feed of Cartoon Network was established, prior to this it was a 30-minute relay version of the Indian channel. The local Cartoon Network aired Dragon Ball Z on Toonami Monday-Saturday at 5:30pm and on a block called 'Toon Mukabla Double Action'. For unknown reasons the Toonami block closed on March 28, 2010, although its not known if Dragon Ball Z followed suit.
Dragon Ball Kai: Sometime in July 2011 Cartoon Network aired Kai with the English OP for 'Dragon Soul' and all the singers instead of just using Vic Mignogna's voice. This was an English broadcast, a Hindi dub may have aired in 2012 although the only evidence of it seems to be brief clips.
Dragon Ball Super: Began airing with an Urdu dub on December 31, 2022 at 7pm slots. The Urdu dub was rerun from March 3, 2025, and at least 5 new episodes were shown every weekday. By March Cartoon Network surpassed the 63 episodes that were initially shown and started broadcasting new episodes. Super concluded its run on Cartoon Network Pakistan on April 3, 2025.
Mexico
Dragon Ball: From May 30, 2006 Cartoon Network began airing original Dragon Ball in its entirety with both the Latin American Spanish dub by Intertrack for several months until early 2007, although after the conclusion of GT it was rerun in the same timeslot on November 8, 2007
Dragon Ball Z: Was airing weekdays at 6.30pm and Saturdays from 1am-3am in 2002. Also shown in reruns at 2am around 2008.
Dragon Ball GT: Premiered September 19, 2007 and was run Monday to Friday at 11pm.
Movies: Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle was shown July 31, 2006, Wrath of the Dragon on September 14, 2017. Further movies were aired the next year, including Legend of Shenlong (March 3, 2008), Mystical Adventure, Path to Power (March 4, 2008 at 5pm), Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle (March 4, 2008 at 10pm) and World's Strongest (March 4, 2008 at 11pm), Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle (March 5, 2008 at 5pm), Dead Zone (March 5, 2008 at 10pm), Tree of Might (March 5, 2008 at 11pm) and Bardock the Father of Goku (March 9, 2008 at 2pm). Remaining movies and specials along with reruns aired in November. Legend of Shenlong, Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle, Mystical Adventure and Path to Power were all aired November 17th at 5pm, 6:30pm, 10pm and 11pm respectively. For their first week on air the Dragon Ball Z movies aired at a rate of two per day, although this pattern changed by the second week. For example Dead Zone and World's Strongest aired on November 18th at 10pm and 11pm, Tree of Might and Lord Slug aired on November 19th at the same times, both Cooler movies aired on November 20th, again during the same slots. The following week however four movies aired on November 24th, Super Android 13 aired at 5pm, followed by Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan at 6pm, Bojack Unbound at 11pm and Broly Second Coming at 11pm. The following day November 25th saw four movies aired, although Bojack Unbound and Broly Second Coming were rerun at 5pm and 6pm, while Bio-Broly and Fusion Reborn premiered at 10pm and 11pm. Similarly on November 26th Bio-Broly and Fusion Reborn were repeated at 5pm and 6pm but Wrath of the Dragon also premiered at 10pm. Wrath of the Dragon was repeated on November 27th at 5pm.
Specials: History of Trunks (March 9, 2008 at 3pm), November 17th at 11pm following Bardock : The Father of Goku at 10pm the same night
Dragon Ball Kai: Premiered April 4, 2011, possibly in a similar fashion to Brazil, of course using the Candiani dub rather than the local Portuguese equivalents.
Dragon Ball Kai The Final Chapters: Likely had a similar broadcast pattern to Brazil but with the continental Spanish dub.
Dragon Ball Super: Debut was August 5, 2017 and likely aired as it did in Brazil with the Candiani dub. In November 2017 Cartoon Network took a break from airing new episodes after episode 67 and the series was rerun from the beginning. In some countries episode 103 was skipped and replaced by Ben 10, and even in countries where it aired it was brought to a halt in the middle and replaced by another show, allegedly causing backlash from fans on Twitter.
Brazil
Dragon Ball: Like with Latin America in general on May 30, 2006 Cartoon Network began its run of original Dragon Ball in its entirety, although for natives who mostly speak Portuguese the original episodes 1-60 dubbed by Álamo aired followed by the remaining episodes 61-153, which Cartoon Network commissioned for consistency.
Dragon Ball Z: Between June 1, 1999 and August 23, 1999 Cartoon Network aired Dragon Ball Z episodes 1-60. Between November 17, 1999 and February 27, 2000 the channel aired the next 60 episodes of Dragon Ball Z, and the show remained in reruns as of June on weekdays at 6:30pm, but further episodes were not shown at that point as Rede Globo took over from Cartoon Network on July 23, 2001. The final 11 episodes of Dragon Ball Z aired on Cartoon Network in a run beginning October 1, 2001 and ending October 15, 2001, and the show was rerunning weekdays at 3.30pm as late as 2008
Dragon Ball GT: Cartoon Network aired GT from December 2, 2002 to June 19, 2003.
Dragon Ball Kai: Premiered April 4, 2011 with episodes airing at 12pm Monday-Friday with a repeat at 0:25am, first 17 episodes of Kai shown before the series took a break, second run covering episodes 18-54 started October 3, 2011. In 2012 there was an error where the English audio was intact in the scene when Trunks chops up Freeza. Half of Kai episode 60 aired with Funimation's English dub audio (including the Yamamoto score). 'The Ebb And The Flow' (which even Nicktoons replaced on its premier) played during the scene the Z warriors and androids are looking for a place to fight. Aired with the Nicktoons edit, but inserted the OP between Freeza's blast and Bardock's death. The last batch, episodes 55-98 began April 19, 2012 with the first episode of that batch.
Dragon Ball Kai: The Final Chapters: Debuted on September 4, 2017.
Dragon Ball Super: Started airing August 5, 2017.
Spain
Dragon Ball: Sometime in the early 2000s it was shown on the local Cartoon Network's Toonami block Dragon Ball at 6.45pm and 7.10pm on their Toonami block with a later airing at 1.05am and weekends at 2.10pm on the same block. It was moved to 4.25pm weekdays and 1pm on weekends possibly sometime in 2005.
Dragon Ball Z: Shown Sundays at 11.25pm and 11.50pm and again at 1.50am following a single showing of original Dragon Ball. Premiered likely sometime after original Dragon Ball's initial run. Rerun in 2008 weekends at 11:30pm
Dragon Ball GT: Aired early 2006 at 11pm on weekdays, rerunning at 1:30am as of 2008.
