He's holding the (For lack of knowledge of the japanese term) power pole in his right hand.

How did I not catch his staff in the picture? I pray to god they don't call it the "power pole". I don't even care if they call it by its Japanese name but I've always hated how corny the term "power pole" sounded.

It's better than the Harmony Gold name "Magic Staff".
But a lot of what it will attract is something different. Idiots basically. People who get into Dragonball, not because its Dragonball and they like it, but because its cool or something. And even that wouldn't bother me so much if they didn't go around acting like they know all about it, bullshiting about how they've been into it for years. Its not the new fans thats the problem for me. Its the fakers. And I know a few.
They'll be gone by the end of the year, soon as the next new 'fad' hits.

Not to be a stubborn dick but I care to disagree, I'd take Magic Staff over Power Pole any day.

While I want the movie to succeed because I love Dragonball, I also want it to fail massively so that it won't attract a whole bunch of idiots to the series who think they know all about Dragonball because of one movie they saw, telling me about this new show they've discovered, and turning Dragonball into a new fad. I'm happy with the Dragonball community as is. While its not overly large (atleast from what I've seen), its fans are genuine. I know its childish. But I'm very protective of Dragonball for some reason.
You say you don't want the movie to attract new fans, but weren't you a new fan yourself at some point? Unless you were reading along with the original Japanese manga as it was released, there was always someone who was a fan before you. Sure, there will always be people who just follow the trends, but they'll disappear quickly. There could also be people who see the movie and become genuinely interested in the series and start learning about the original. Is that a bad thing? The fandom does not belong to any one group of fans who can dictate who is "worthy" of joining their ranks. Who's to say the fandom wouldn't benefit from an infusion of newer fans?
Well said.

Something called the power pole that stretches to incredible lengths?

Why didn't they just use Nyoi-bo like the Blue Water dub.

Because that wasn't "American" enough or "HARDCORE" enough.

I'm betting at Funimation it was a toss up between "Power Pole" and "Super Staff".

That or "Battle Stick"

The pic that is supposed to be of Son Goku in the "Kame" dogi actually has a halfway decent look for the hair! I'd have no problems if that's how it actually turned out in the end and whatever pics we've seen so far are just some sort of weird fluke or part of a scene where his hair changes for some reason.

That is obviously not Chatwin because it lacks mopey-face.

Actually, the Japanese in that picture says "Justin Chatwin" in the narration box next to the full-body pose of him (ith the kids freaking out underneath).

That's the most bizzare thing I've ever seen. I still think Chatwin looks too melodramatic for Goku.

If they would just show a screenshot of him being happy it would amuse me a whole lot!

The Japanese are really looking foward to this, huh?.......

Seems like the english speaking world are the only ones against it.

I know that. I was making a joke.

If no one has translated those pages by tomorrow, I'll do it.

To be fair, would you expect to see anything but positivity from a Japanese magazine owned by the parent company that owns the property the movie is based off of? That'd be like, say, Nickelodeon Magazine not giving the highest praise to one of their new shows.

Rachel's being lazy/stingy, where's Herms?

But this has to be the single greatest thing I have ever seen in my life. A mini-nanga about a live action American movie. It just doesn't get any cooler than that.

Though I do have to say that it seems kind of lazy that they're going to add the stars to the DBs in post production via CGI. I was kind of hoping the CGI would be left for the important stuff, like Kamehameha waves, Shenron, and so on.

Seems like Japan is really gearin' up for this movie! Never expected a little Mini-Manga to come out of it though. :)
Next quest: Start collecting Dragon Ball Super Blu-Rays whenever season sets get released. Also the Super Manga!

Fan of Dragon Ball Z and various other Anime since '98! ^^

Thank you for the translation. :D

You know you've been on the internet too long when term 'cyber room' sounds awkward. (*Imagines Piccolo on a computer flirting with people  *)
