New Bandai Dragon Ball Toys in stores!

Post by laserkid » Thu Jul 03, 2008 4:38 pm

Hey all, I was just at wal-mart to fill a perscription, and while waiting, I was checking out the new Transformers Animated line. Lo and behold next to them were new Bandai DBZ/GT toys, seven in the series (each containing parts to peice together Shenlong). I splurged and bought all seven (No, the irony that across SEVEN toys put together Shenlong was not lost on me).

I thought I'd share some pictures I took via camera to show how neat these are. They are smaller then the Super Battle collection, but are actual action figures (unlike Bandai's last wave of inarticulate figurines).

Anyway the pictures I've put into some groups, group one is the packaging:

The whole set packaged
Cell in package
SSJ4 Goku in package
SSJ Vegeta in package
SSJ Goku in package
Piccolo in package
Freeza in package
Baby Vegeta in package
package backing

This next batch shows off some of the posability and me being goofy (such as the DBZ era characters hitting their GT era counterparts because I'm a jerk like that).

Freeza and his tail attachment
Freeza and SSJ Vegeta posing to the ridiculous limit
Freeza and Vegeta facing forward
A partially built Shenlong
SSJ Goku and SSJ Vegeta battle for the water bottle. Who will win?!
SSJ Goku at a downturned angle so you can see his face (which on a straight on shot is too covered by his hair)
Most of the toys had typical twist ties, Piccolo and a few others had this odd new method of toy theft prevention
Piccolo posed to his ridiculous max (the cape really hinders his motions
Piccolo with no articulation used
Cell posed to his ridiculous maximum (which was more then I was expecting
Cell and Goku with no articulation used
Cell's back wings being pushed
SSJ4 Goku doing a mortal kombat pose (actually his head just sorta fell off, it goes back on fine but his head due to excess hair doe not turn the slightest bit)
SSJ Goku hitting SSJ4 Goku
completely assembled Shenlong (harder then you might think, they give no instructions)
completely assembled Shenlong side view
completely assembled Shenlong back view
Baby Vegeta no articulation used
Baby Vegeta using articulation to the silly extreme
Baby Vegeta hitting SSJ4 Goku
SSJ Vegeta hitting Baby Vegeta
The complete set (including the built Shenlong)

My last category is for comparison shots, primarily with the Super Battle Collection, but I also have an earlier Bandai "Ultimate" Freeza which I compare with this series' Freeza.

Supper Battle Collection SSJ Goku and New Bandai SSJ Goku
Super Battle Collection SSJ Vegeta and New Bandai SSJ Vegeta
Bandai "Ultimate" Freeza and New Bandai Freeza
Super Battle Collection Piccolo and New Bandai Piccolo
Super Battle Collection Cell and New Bandai Cell
Goku "Evolution" shot (Jacks Pacific Chibi Goku, SBC Goku, New Bandai SSJ Goku, SBC #00 in SSJ3 mode, and New Bandai SSJ4 Goku)
Vegeta "Evolution" (SBC Vegeta, SBC SSJ Vegeta, New Bandai SSJ Vegeta, New Bandai Baby Vegeta

Whew, sorry I got a bit over excited to report/give pictures on these new toys. Personally, I'm glad Bandai stopped making inarticulate figurines and returned to action figure making, but thats me, a toy geek speaking. What do you guys think from the pictures?

Two questions: How are they up close (face wise), and how much are they?

Aw, sweet. I've gotta get me the GT ones, at the very least. Wal-Mart, you say? I'll check next time I'm there.

Wait, are these basically US releases of the Hybrid figures or are these a different scale from those?

They look like this generations "Super Battle Collection".

The faces are OK, I'll try and take a photo of a close up of the face for you soon.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. The cost for these was $5.94

No these are neither as big, nor as customizable as the hybrid figures.

Super Saiyan Goku... It says "Super Saiyan 4 Son Goku" in Japanese. I'd keep that misprint in it's package if I were you!

Interesting. I'll be snagging the Pic as soon as I see him in a store. Wish the cloak was removable like it is in a couple of the old versions.

Quality notwithstanding, I was surprised at how small the Hybrid figures actually were.

Cheap as it is, I'm almost tempted to buy the Freeza.

Yeah thats my one qualm with this series, the lack of removable armor/clothing, but I suppose the only series to do that at all was the Super Battle Collection anyway.

Dragonball toys at Wal-Mart? Hell has frozen over, I never thought I'd see the day when DBZ toys returned to toy shelves! 8)

(And I was at Wal-Mart a few days ago, too... )
Next quest: Start collecting Dragon Ball Super Blu-Rays whenever season sets get released. Also the Super Manga!

Very nice. They look pretty good to me, plus I'm a sucker for "Build-A-Figures" so I'll probably pick these up.

Bandai has finally put out something that looks interesting to me. I dislike the scale, but the fact that they're articulated is what peeks my interest.
I might pick up some of these...maybe, but I'll never collect any of these new ones as hard core as I did Irwin, SBC, and early Jakks Pacific.
Thank you for tipping us off and for all of the pictures, Laserkid.
