Ryō Horikawa (born 01 February 1954) is a Japanese actor and voice actor from Ōsaka, Japan. Formerly affiliated with Aoni Production, he is currently affiliated with Aslead Company. His wife, Hitomi Oikawa, is also a voice actor. His real name is Makoto Horikawa (堀川 亮), however he prefers to use the common pronunciation for 亮, "Ryō", in-place of "Makoto" for his stage name. His only Dragon Ball role is that of Vegeta.
Biography
Stage Name
At the beginning of his career he is credited under the stage name "Ryō Horikawa", spelled in kanji the same as his birth name (堀川 亮), however pronouncing his given name "Makoto" (亮) as "Ryō". He later changed how his stage name was written, opting to write "Ryō" in hiragana, as opposed to its original kanji writing. Within the series, all credits for Ryō Horikawa from Dragon Ball Z to Dragon Ball GT are listed under his original stage name, 堀川 亮. Beginning with Dragon Ball Kai, he is credited under his new stage name, 堀川りょう.
