ONEPIXCEL (formerly OnePixcel) was a J-Pop idol group consisting of Ayaka Den, Ami Kanuma, and Nanami Tanabe. They performed "LAGRIMA", the eleventh and final ending theme song for the Dragon Ball Super TV anime. The group disbanded 25 June 2021.[1]

History

In September 2015, Toho Entertainment announced the formation of OnePixcel, a unit consisting of Ayaka Den, Raia Kozuka, Ami Kanuma, and Nanami Tanabe.[2] OnePixcel's debut mini-album, "ZERO" (THER-1001), was released 22 June 2016.[3]

After being on hiatus due to poor health, it was officially announced in September 2016 that Raia Kozuka would be leaving OnePixcel.[4] In her absence, the unit began recruiting for new members.[5] Five trainees were selected and were subsequently introduced at a live performance, but these singers would instead join with one other to form the J-Pop idol group PiXMiX.[6][7][8]

Before the release of their first single, the unit began spelling their name as "ONEPIXCEL", in all capital letters, with most press going forward adopting the new style. ONEPIXCEL released their first CD single, "TONDEKE/Analoganize" (THER-1002), 23 November 2016, and their second CD single, "Time" (THER-1003), 19 April 2017.[9][10] Their final release under Toho Entertainment was their first full album, "monochrome" (THER-1004), which included tracks from the previous two CD singles and was released 18 October 2017.[11]

At the ONEPIXCEL LiVE2017 FREE&EASY vol.4 ~Chapter 1 → Chapter 2~ live performance 16 December 2017, ONEPIXCEL revealed their upcoming major debut with Nippon Columbia, and that their new song, "LAGRIMA", would be used as an ending theme song for the Dragon Ball Super TV anime series. They promptly followed these announcements by performing a short preview of the song.[12] Dragon Ball Super Episode 122 aired 07 January 2018 on Fuji TV, featuring the song in its end credits sequence. "LAGRIMA" was released under Nippon Columbia 07 March 2018 as a CD single in two versions, "Type A" (COCA-17429) and "Type B" (COCA-17430).[13]

In January 2021, ONEPIXCEL made an appearance and performed on the Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle 6th anniversary live broadcast.[14]

ONEPIXCEL disbanded 25 June 2021 after their final live performance.[1]
