Re: Toonami Rewind Block On Fridays.

With this in mind, I wonder if Daima will even air on Toonami/TV when it comes out or streaming. Also, happy to see Cure get some good news about Dragon Ball on TV. It's going to air on Fuji TV so I don't know why not. It would be a new license, sure, but if Toonami strikes while the iron is hot th...

Re: Did the dub of One Piece Episode 590 ever get released physically?

I think it got a standalone DVD in Japan, which would probably be in raw Japanese without even subs.

I know Toonami aired it last year but that was the first time it saw any sort of release in English-speaking territories as I recall it being something of a novelty at the time.

Re: Toonami Rewind airing Dragon Ball Z....Kai?

As I explained in the other thread it's likely because Cartoon Network don't want to have to go through the hassle of relicensing Dragon Ball Z when they still have the license for a competing product like Kai. Traditional TV is also not the lucrative business it once was so broadcasters are not go...

Re: Share your stories about seeing anything Dragon Ball in public

Seeing the series being played in the mall or in barbers sounds great. Sadly I've never seen a case of either, Pop also only seems to be airing Super at 11pm slots on weekends now so can't imagine anyone would want to be playing it in a public space.

Re: Toonami Rewind Block On Fridays.

I think the notion of Funimation being "anti-Ocean" comes more from a small minority of the voice actors getting involved in drama behind the scenes. Even then you have stuff like Sabat casting Drummond as Copy Vegeta, and Scott McNeil being on good terms with the texas guys. Funimation a...

Share your stories about seeing anything Dragon Ball in public

As we're all no doubt aware Dragon Ball is a bona fied global pop cultural phenomenon to the extent many people who are not fans would still be aware of it, maybe even be familiar with it on some level through knowing people who like it. Since I've been a fan for nearly 25 years and will always have...

Re: Toonami Rewind Block On Fridays.

To give Funimation credit where its due, as 90sDBZ pointed out before they did refer to it as "the legendary Ocean dub" on the Rock the Dragon boxset. I do completely understand the frustrations from some fans over the confusion the term "Ocean dub" has caused over the years thou...

Re: Toonami Rewind Block On Fridays.

I get WHY they can't use the old Canadian dub for Sailor Moon but it is kinda weird to use the ViZ dub as part of a nostalgic throwback block when it's never been on Toonami before. At least Dragon Ball Z Kai did run on Toonami like 10 years ago and actually qualifies as a "rewind" and ha...

Re: Toonami Rewind Block On Fridays.

That's neat, the name reminds me of back during its first year on Cartoon Network UK we had 'Dragon Ball Z Rewind' on Saturdays and Sundays where they would repeat the week's episodes for those who missed them, or crazy people like me who wanted to watch them again. Good times :D

Re: The Latin American Redub of OG Dragon Ball uses Harmony Gold Scripts

My guess is that English to Spanish translators were easy to come across in Latin America and because copies of the Harmony Gold masters were being distributed among syndicates it wasn't hard for Intertrack to get ahold of those materials. It is curious for episodes 6-60 they went a more faithful ro...

Re: Project Picasso Z!!! - A Hunt for the Lost Picasso Tagalog Dub of Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z!

I too would like to hear from any Filipino fans who may have recorded any episodes of this dub, or even the Creative Corp Products English dub, which is also almost entirely lost aside from a handful of Z episodes. I could definitely see the conflicting stories about whether Dragon Ball Z episodes 4...

Re: The notion that Dragon Ball didn't catch on with the Harmony Gold dub

Independent television was really interesting back then though. There was a very small independent station where I grew up. Never had a schedule, I'd see it in the newspaper TV listings and it would just say "Local Programming". It might be sitcom reruns, might be a church broadcast, it m...

Re: Dragon Ball Kai to air in Poland in April

The original three Dragon Ball series never had Polish dubs, only lektors. Prior to Super Dragon Ball Z movies 12 and 13 were dubbed, but that's it, from what I've heard. Marcin Doroziński was asked in an interview if RTL7 would consider dubbed airings, but he just said "No" without explan...

Re: Would a spin-off manga or anime about Yamcha be good?

Aside from Dragon Garow Lee's That Time I Got Reincarnated as Yamcha ? Sure, anything can be good with the right approach and execution. Prior to the Future Trunks arc and first Super movie everyone laughed at the idea of a story with an evil Goku or anything else featuring Broly and dismissed them ...

Re: The notion that Dragon Ball didn't catch on with the Harmony Gold dub

I think the closest to someone being introduced to Dragon Ball via Harmony Gold, was a member here getting told "Oh Dragon Ball I watched that when I was little" and the member thinking the guy just had Mandela Syndrome but that it was likely the guy saw the Harmony Gold broadcast because...

The notion that Dragon Ball didn't catch on with the Harmony Gold dub

On one hand fans who claim this (of which there are many) are not wrong, but on the other could any show have done better in Dragon Ball's circumstances? Animerica Vol. 8, Issue 7 seems to think the show was not well liked: "It seems that Harmony Gold owned the distribution rights rights to Dra...

Re: The CW/4Kids Broadcasts of Kai on Toonzai and Vortexx

It's also something I've wondered, why didn't Nicktoons air episode 98 even though Funimation made an edited version of it? They did , just over a year after they aired episode 97 and with GT airing in between. I guess because History of Trunks was airing the same day Nicktoons thought it was the p...

Re: Did Fuji TV air the original Dragon Ball anime completely uncensored?

That is actually a good point that I didn't think about. It reminds me of something we learned about the Ocean dub of Kai from recent Anime Time Machine livestreams, which is that the director Karl Willems had some disagreements with the producers (who in Ocean Studio's case would probably be Diana ...

Re: Did Fuji TV air the original Dragon Ball anime completely uncensored?

On contrary, is there any anime that was censored on original broadcast? I'm not talking about director's/extended cut on home video, which is separate topic. If there are we probably wouldn't know about them. Director's cuts are by definition the intended vision of any given product, so any conten...

Re: English Actors that were cast post...a certain timeframe.

Funimation's casting choices from Kai onwards have been infinitely better than their 1998-2005 castings. Obviously the problem with the latter was always the fact Funimation were not making casting decisions based on the character's essential traits but they were just looking for people with little ...
