These are great, and if you were to continue I would love full screen comparisons. But I understand that these are a lot of work since they are so well done.

Yeah, I do plan on continuing these sooner than later. I do work on them off and on every once in a while.

Sorry, but full screen comparisons just aren't gonna happen. I don't feel like doing it, and I like putting up the images so that people don't have to click on them to view a larger image.

DragonBall Kai Episode 019 (Link)

新たなる強敵!宇宙の帝王フリーザ
Arata Naru Kyouteki! Uchuu no Teiou Furiiza
A Formidable New Enemy! Emperor of the Universe, Freeza

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Vegeta approaches Freeza Planet No. 79, the alarm sounds announcing his arrival. Part of this scene, where the control room cronies check to see who it is, has been re-animated.
Image

After recovering on Freeza Planet No. 79 from his injuries, Vegeta thinks back about what he went through on Earth. The end part of this scene has been re-animated, where he looks all pissed about it.
Image

Vegeta has finally healed and puts on some new Saiyan gear, as the doctor looks over Vegeta's old battle damaged armor from Earth in amazement. A very brief part of this scene, where Vegeta puts on new gloves, has been re-animated to actually fix an inconsistency. In DragonBall Z you could see Vegeta wearing his new battle jacket as he put on his gloves, but immediately after this Vegeta is shown putting the battle jacket on. So in Kai, they removed the battle jacket. How they catch this, but miss other more obvious things, is beyond me.
Image

The hospital doctor entering the room while Goku does sit-ups has been re-animated. This was most likely done because the footage here is just really bad, as you can see in the screen shot below.
Image

Bulma telling Gohan and Krillin to take a seat before they land on Planet Namek has been re-animated. Interestingly, the re-animated shot of Gohan sitting down and buckling up after Bulma tells him to do so is taken from DragonBall Z episode 041, when the trio prepare to land on the fake Planet Namek. This was actually a nice addition to the scene, since in the original Bulma merely says they're landing and then suddenly the ship is plunging down to Namek, with both Gohan and Krillin magically buckled into their seats.
Image
Image

Most of the scene with the ship plunging down toward Namek has been re-animated, since the original was ultra-bright and flashy.
Image
Image

Bulma completely freaking out as Vegeta lands on Planet Namek has been re-animated. As you'll notice, the background was completely redone as well.
Image

Vegeta putting his scouter back on after landing has been re-animated.
Image

Two parts of the scene where Bulma is on the phone with Kame-sennin explaining their current situation have been re-animated. The first is when Gohan and Krillin spot another Saiyan space pod (Kui's) landing on the planet, and then again when they point it out to Bulma after she gets off the phone.
Image
Image

The final re-animated scene of this episode is the first glimpse of Freeza we get in the series. The outlines of his eyes have been corrected, so that they're dark. However, you'll also notice that the lines on the left side of his face weren't traced all the way across, unlike in the original.

フリーザへの反逆!野望に燃えるベジータ
Furiiza e no Hangyaku! Yabou ni Moeru Bejiita
Rebellion Against Freeza! Vegeta, Burning With Ambition

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Krillin telling Gohan to conceal his ki as Freeza's scouts approach has been re-animated to now include the Kame logo on his dougi.
Image

Freeza's goons have been re-animated as they look down at Krillin after hearing him say that they're nothing compared to him and Gohan. Ah, the truth hurts.
Image

As Kui confronts Vegeta, he soon learns that he's truly no match. Parts of this scene have been re-animated, including Vegeta showing off his new ability to control his battle power and Kui's reaction once he realizes he doesn't stand a chance.
Image
Image

After Vegeta kills Kui, the shot of Dodoria reading his scouter and realizing Vegeta's battle power really is 24,000 has been re-animated.
Image

The close-up shot of Freeza after he calmly dismisses the fact that Vegeta killed Kui has been re-animated to again correct the outlines around his eyes. This same shot was later re-used as Freeza tells Dodoria and Zarbon to stay on their guard, as Vegeta isn't the only strange presence on the planet (hinting about Krillin and Gohan).
Image

Vegeta talking about killing off Freeza so he can be "No. 1" in the universe has been re-animated, including him taking off to find one of the dragonballs for himself. This was presumably done to correct the button on the scouter, making it consistently red. In the Kai shot you'll notice that the aura merely surrounds Vegeta on the sides, but nothing passes in front of him like it does in Z, which makes it look very 2D and flat.

守れドラゴンボール!ナメック星人総攻撃
Mamore Doragon Booru! Namekku-seijin Soukougeki
Protect the Dragonballs! The Namekian Offensive

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After Goku arrives at Capsule Corp., part of the scene with Bulma's mother hitting on him as she escorts him into the backyard has been re-animated. How awkward, right? You'll also notice that Bulma's mother appears to be missing here red lipstick in the re-animated footage.
Image

Dr. Brief showing Goku where the bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom are located has been re-animated. And for some reason, Dr. Brief gets very tan all of a sudden...
Image

Goku anxiously anticipating leaving to Planet Namek to help Bulma and the others has been re-animated. And now Dr. Brief isn't quite as tan again... Weird.
Image

Part of the scene where Goku blasts off was re-animated to emphasize the ship's transition from the Earth's atmosphere to space.
Image

Dodoria looking over to where Krillin and Gohan are hiding, and then reporting to Freeza about it, has been re-animated.
Image

An aerial shot of Freeza and his men trying to take the dragonball from a Namekian village has been re-animated. Interestingly, the Kai shot looks much darker, almost making it appear to be dusk even though it isn't.
Image

The scene with the Namekians listening to Freeza explain everything he knows about the dragonballs was re-animated. A close-up shot of Freeza was also re-animated and for some reason the color of his eyes were changed from red to black.
Image
Image

Much of the scene where Zarbon kills two of the Namekian elders has been re-animated. You'll notice that some of the backgrounds have been replaced, or altered, and much of the bright flashing has been removed.
Image

Image
Image

Part of the arrival of the young Namekian warriors has been re-animated, with the dramatic lines being changed from black to white, for some reason.
Image

Part of the scene where the young Namekian warriors attack Freeza's henchmen has been re-animated, specifically with those involving ki blasts.
Image
Image
Image
Image

The panning scene where the Namekian elder begins to make his plan to destroy Freeza's scouters has been re-animated.
Image
Image

Dodoria preparing to enter the battle has been re-animated, along with him saying he's going to kill everyone after the elder destroys his scouter.

I quite liked the redrawn stuff in episode 21. The Ginyu introduction is still the best looking redrawn stuff to date though.

Just so we are clear I meant 4:3 comparisons of Kai not larger screens.

Ah, got ya. Maybe someday, when I have the capabilities to easily take screen shots from the Blu-rays. If I get the chance, I may throw up some examples, but I'm not gonna do it for every episode like I'm doing now.

These are some nice comparisons Hujio, a lot of work has gone into it, thanks for these :).

It seems that the people working at Kai aren't very consistent in the re-drawn scenes seeing as it is left as is during some recaps and previews. :(

猛追ドドリアの恐怖!ベジータに明かす真実
Moutsui Dodoria no Kyoufu! Bejiita ni Akasu Shinjitsu
Dodoria in Terrifying Hot Pursuit! Vegeta Learns the Truth

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dodoria firing a ki blast from his mouth at one of the young Namekian warriors has been re-animated.
Image

Dodoria getting hit by one of the young Namekian warrior's ki attacks has been re-animated, including the weird smoke that emanates afterward. However, the Namekian throwing the ki blast was not re-animated.
Image

Dodoria using his spiky head to slam one of the young Namekian warriors into the side of a cliff was re-animated, so that the cliff is still visible in the background on impact.
Image

Dodoria killing Cargo has been re-animated, but the beginning of the shot where Dodoria unleashes the ki blast from his mouth was simply re-used from earlier in the episode. Although I will note, that is also what they did in Z, so they're not really being any lazier about it now.
Image
Image

As Dodoria gives chase to Gohan, Krillin, and Dende, part of the scene where he fires multiple ki blasts at them has been re-animated. It is odd that the first half of the ki blasts weren't re-animated, and then the later half were, because it makes them really stand out in contrast to the older material. In addition, Krillin getting hit and dropping Dende was also re-animated, most likely to fix the color of the ki blasts from white to yellow.
Image
Image

The soap bubble floating over Bulma showing her in the bathtub has been re-animated.
Image

Vegeta laughing at Dodoria as he crawls out of the water was re-animated to correct the button on his scouter. However, you'll notice that Vegeta suddenly loses his teeth, which for some reason were left out of the re-animated footage, but then later reappear in other re-animated footage.
Image
Image
Image

The shot just before Vegeta crushes his scouter has been re-animated to fix the color of the scouter's vent.
Image

Some re-animated footage of Goku and Vegeta's beam struggle back on Earth was re-used during Vegeta's flashback, as he tells Dodoria how much stronger he's gotten and why he doesn't need a scouter anymore. Note the subtle differences between the original and newly animated footage, such as Vegeta's eyes.
Image
Image
Image

The ki blasts that Dodoria fruitlessly unleashes on Vegeta have been re-animated.
Image

Part of the scene where Vegeta pins Dodoria's arms behind himself has been re-animated to remove the dramatic background and instead maintain the Namekian landscape.
Image

Vegeta letting go of Dodoria has been re-animated to correct Vegeta's armor, which as you can tell, was not properly colored in the original.

I think it's funny how they managed to show more of Bulma in the redrawn bath scene.

Funny? I think it's the smartest thing they've done since this whole thing kai thing started. Besides, they have to make up for all the censored penis... Hold on, I got a call... "Chris Hansen would you please leave me alone! It's a damn cartoon for Pete's sake!"

Better forgetting to shade than doing so poor on it!
Image
This shot above epitomizes why I think Kai's a poor rush job... the shading is just so horrible. It lacks... I want to use subtlety but I'm not sure if that
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
