Nice episode, they decided to leave all of the filler explaining Buu's origins, and it ended with Buu visiting "other world". Judging from the next episode preview, #151 will likely end just as the final battle is about to begin I would have thought.

Good episode. They used the entirety of DBZ #277 and approximately half of DBZ #278. I'm guessing since a couple of scenes of DBZ #279 were used in the Next-Episode Preview, they will end the episode with Goku going SSJ3.

^Though that eyecatch is very nice, I would've preferred if they would've made one with Goku and Vegeta and one with Buu. The Gotenks eyecatch is still there and Gotenks isn't relevant for like 10 episodes at this point.

Love the new eyecatch!. Thanks man. The version I saw late last night on youtube didn't show the second eyecatch.

And yeah, Gotenks still being the first is weird, as Darkblade1995 said above. They should change it to Old Kai.

That might be even better with Old Kai and Kibitokai looking in horror, maybe even add Dende in the mix.

That said though, there is one thing I have to give credit for in this Kai's versions eyecatchers. They at least are doing different things like just a group shot or like this one, which is split into 3 sections, or like the Vegetto, Gotenks, Super Buu and SSJ3 Goku one, with a almost full body pose and a close up on the face. Unlike the first Kai which always had the same splitscreen.

Strong 9 is FUJI TV's name for the hour block from 9:00 AM JPN time which includes Kai and One Piece.

Also, pretty good episode. The exposition scene featuring every Kai is one of the better anime originals.

Ugh, Goku and Vegeta's faces look extremely swolen and their noses and mouths are too close together. They almost look like Goten and Trunk's heads on their Dads' bodies.

I really wish Dragon Ball still had good artists working on it, or at least a decent art style.

Eh. I don't see anything wrong with the eyecatch.

It should look more like this:

rather than this:

That's just a quick 5 minute fix. In the original, their faces are so round and swollen that they look like they're puffing their cheeks out, or that they've gained weight. There is no definition in their jaw line whatsoever, unlike all of the older artwork. Plus, their mouths and noses are way too small and squashed into each other. They look too "childlike".

I would have touched up the eyes as well, but those are more minor. Kid Boo's face still looks weird as well.

They're both pretty nice looking. You do good touch-up work!

As for the episode itself, I guess the Buu origin filler was alright, but the whole, "Let's show Buu fighting guys in the Afterlife," thing isn't really something I'm looking forward to. That sort of material is unnecessary and easily removable.

Heh, thanks. I showed my sister and she thought what I did was barely noticeable and unnecessary, so thanks for the compliment.

I'm not going to brag and say I'm a "good" artist, I merely find myself decent, but I've always been a huge fan of Dragon Ball, and I've always loved the art style, so personally, seeing it misrepresented in my eyes, I'm going to notice things about it more than others, for better or worse. :P

Yeah, all they had to do was have Goku and Vegeta realize they could summon Boo with their power, and they could have cut everything of the afterlife out.

Doesn't this mean we're going to see Paikuhan in an actual episode of Kai now? :eh:

There was a motion blur effect used in this episode but I'm not sure as to why it was applied.
Here's the original (from the orange bricks):
and here's Kai:
Any ideas as to why this was done? It looks nice in motion.

Was there flashing in that scene in Z?

If so, then it's likely an effect added to try and mask the removal of the white frames. If not, they probably wanted to make it look cool or something. At least in the still shot it looks weird, since obviously they couldn't motion blur the background behind Goku and Vegeta.

I went and watched the original scene and there was no flashing lights.

Well, even in manga, it was told, that great martial artists can save their bodies, so i won't mind Paikuhan, if they show Freeza & co watching fight however, then I'm sorry, even with English dub, i won't support show, where creators certainly don';t care.

Well the characters are moving very fast across the screen and the background is going by very quickly so it's pretty self explanatory really. Beyond that I can't imagine there being a reason for it aside from maybe being worried that the characters weren't distinguishable enough in that particular scene (which I don't think is a problem anyway since the composition has them in the center).

During the hand drawn age of Dragonball Z animation this effect wouldn't have been available to them unless they deliberately painted the backgrounds smudged/blurred).

I wish people around would post many more pictures of corrected shots like this, just like Toei (and other companies) does for the home releases.
