Pun source of the name "Gomah"?
This has been floating in my mind since the two new characters for DB Daima were officially announced. I realized that the name "Panzy" ("パンジ") is a pun on "panty" ("パンティー"), but is the name "Gomah" ("ゴマー") a pun on any word? Does it have a pun source?

Pansy is from the flower pansy. Almost everyone has puns related to flowers. Glorio being from the gloriosa flower, for example.
Gomah is from 胡麻 - sesame, also a flower.

I know this is late but thanks. No wonder Toei had missed the pun on the name "Panzy".

The flower name is spelled パンジー, the character is パンジ. They're not missing the pun, they're just spelling it differently from the name of the flower because that's not what the name actually is.TechExpert2021 wrote: Tue Sep 17, 2024 10:11 pm I know this is late but thanks. Though they could've probably gone with "Pansi" or something instead.

Huh. Never thought Demons would be based on flowers of all things. But I guess we only had Dabura previously as a base.Ajay wrote: Sun Sep 15, 2024 11:40 am Pansy is from the flower pansy. Almost everyone has puns related to flowers. Glorio being from the gloriosa flower, for example.

English is not my first language. Please excuse my gramatical mistakes.

Didn't want to create a new thread, since we've already got this one.
Fellas, any idea what might that witch's name from episode 8 come from?
マーバ, māba, does it come from '魔婆, maba', so 'witch'/'magical old woman' or maybe it's from 'クルマバソウ、krumabasou', so 'Galium odoratum'?

They both look lile old witches, so perhaps they share the ba character too?

I guess folks already forgot when he did it back when Dragon Ball Super was airing, but Herms address stuff like this and he has been doing again since the start of Dragon Ball Daima. You may want to go and follow him to know the source of puns, among other things.

I am begging everyone to remember that Kanzenshuu is a full website, not just a forum!
Each and every respective page in our "Episode Guide" for Daima includes extensive notes including name pun breakdowns, translation quibbles, full cast and crew translations, and even an analysis of animation differences between the original trailers and the final broadcast episode.
We generally have any given new episode's page up within a day of its airing, and the links for them are also added to the first post of every thread here on the forum.

Thanks for your reply, guys!
That still leaves plenty of room for speculation. On one Japanese blog someone suggested '麻婆, maba', so 'hemp hag'. Kinda fits most

Since I didn't want to start a new thread, any idea on the naming for Majin Kuu?

The new creation Majin Koo seems to take the name “Boo” and shift the consonant sound from a bu to a ku. If this is the case, it would be similar to the name "Bee" for Boo's dog friend, which shifted the vowel sounds from -uu to -ee. Since we go with "Boo" for a name spelling (as Bibbidi, Bobbidi, and Boo all match their exact katakana spellings from the same source words in the Cinderella song in Japanese), we have gone with a spelling of "Koo" for this new character. The official simulcast English subtitles go with a spelling of "Kuu" (presumably to match their FUNimation-English-dub-sourced spelling of “Buu”).
