The "Super Saiyajin Son Gokou" figures actually look pretty good.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
That figure above is from the Best of DBZ bootleg line, and was a bootleg of the Goku from I think - the Bandai America Supersize Warriors series of legit figures. Not all best of DBZ figures are bootlegs however, there was a legit series of the same name, by Bandia toys, which were 10" size versions of the Full Action Kit series model kits. As far as I know they made SS3 Goku and SS Gogeta. Here is a Picture of my SS3 Goku from the legit Best of DBZ series series:

With Iriwn Goku to show scale:

And another picture of the Goku in the post above... Despite the error, it's hard to say that the sculpt isn't nice even in bootleg form.:

Sorry to double post, just noticed this -

Some of them really are quite well done, but they were all large size copies of older toys. Mostly from the B-Club model kit molds, (http://www.supersaiyantoys.com/bclub1-8th.html) and Bandia's Soul of Hyper Series.

A few of them which have not yet been added to the site are HILARIOUSLY bad.

All the best,

Thanks!

And the figure above is by Epoch, who was the very first company to ever make Dragonball toys! The hair on that figure really is hilarious! I think it was made that way so that kids could style it any way they wanted, but thats just a guess on my part. In the Epoch catalogue, that same figure is seen with spiked, styled hair - you can see that photo here:

http://www.supersaiyantoys.com/Epoch/epochgoodies.jpg

In the world of Dragonball toys, it can be VERY hard to know what's a bootleg and what's a licensed product... And I don't just say that because bootlegers are getting better at what they do all the time. Some legit Dragonball toys truly look illegal! The best example of this that I can give, is the Spanish company Yolanda, who made some of the most hideous Dragonabll figures imaginable - but they were all totally legit. Here is the best example of their insanity that I could possibly give:

More on Yolanda here:

someone put it out of its misery and melt it the rest of the way down.

The only Bootleg DBZ toys I have ever had are two. One was a Rip off of the super battle collection Gotenks. I got it from Buy-Rite Video games, the company I got Legends on PS1 from. It came as a bonus. No wonder, cause it was fucking bootleg. I didn't even notice until I read online about it and checked the box, and what do you know, no Bandai Logo. I ended up buying the legitimate figure a bit later and giving the bootleg to friend who said he didn't care.
The other is just this dinky 2 inch tall SSJ3 Goku. I got it a comic shop for like a buck or something. It might be legit, but it didn't come in a bag or box or anything, and it is rather cheaply made, so I just assume it's bootleg.
I have a bunch of those Dorda figures, which aren't bootleg, but are terrible none the less.

I have a bootleg Freeza figure I got in a big ol' box of DBZ toys I ordered off eBay.It's actually competently made and painted, strangely enough, but it's larger than the regular ones and has only three points of movement - both shoulders and the tail, and those only spin around.

It's already been there.

Seriously, those Yolanda figures scare me. All except for Kame-Sennin.

Thats actually kinda cool. Are their better versions around though?

Hah, I'm glad you guys are enjoying the pictures of the Yolandas :D They are some of my all time favorite Dragonball figures.

For your amusement, here are some pictures of other insane looking bootlegs!

This one was apparently a prize of some kind at a place like Six Flags or something like that. I do NOt own this figure:

http://www.supersaiyantoys.com/bl1

This was one of the 'hilariously bad' examples from the bootleg series, "Super Saiyajin Son Goku" It is based on a real special edition Soul of Hyper figure.

http://www.supersaiyantoys.com/bl2

I have very little explanation for this one, other than I think it was part of some kind of thermos top...

http://www.supersaiyantoys.com/bl3

These are some of my favorites! The Goku is awesome in my humble opinion - I would have loved Goku in those colors. These are all bootlegs of Bandais Super Battle Collection figures:

Enjoy!

All the best,
Oldphan

P.S: I seem to be having trouble using the Img function, and I know I've used it here before... Is anyone else having the same trouble?
