Kai Episode 4 (26 April 2009)
No complaints about this topic getting put up late. Mike and Meri are moving into their new house, and I just got back from an all-day obligation. That said...

Really? I'm complaining a lot about it also but enjoy it nevertheless. Guess I'm just a sucker for Dragonball. The Time Traveller wrote:I'm not even gonna download episode 4... I'm sick of Kai already...

I liked episode 4. And I still like Kai. I like how it's going by at a quicker pace. I can't really stand sitting through the pacing of DBZ right now because I've seen it one too many times.
As for there not being any new music, I keep hearing the same few pieces of music over and over again in each DBZ episode. It's just part of the soundtrack. To expect Kai to constantly have new music is an unfair request considering DBZ's BGM, as well as other anime BGMs, didn't have new music all the time.
As for Goku's blood stain, that just gives me hope that the DVD/Blu-Ray version will go uncensored.

They didn't have the next episode title written out at the end of the end of the preview (which is kind of weird), but I think Goku says that its "Kouryou na Sabaibaru! Tsuki ga Gohan wo Yobisamasu/"Harsh Survival! The Moon Awakens Gohan".
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?

As I said in the previous thread, it seems like the honeymoon is indeed over.
The inconsistency is just making me sick. Within a minute (in the show's time), a "slight bruise" turns into something that'll leave a bloodstain? Really, show?
Like I said in the previous thread, I didn't get to catch the rest of the show, thanks to TVAnts not working and Keyhole being epic fail, so I'm not exactly sure what kind of dumbfuckery went on after that. Still, that was enough to make me rage again.

I agree. This show is so inconsistent.Saiyavenger2941 wrote:As I said in the previous thread, it seems like the honeymoon is indeed over.

Did they cut anything important in this episode?
Hiei: "So tell me - what's it like living in a constant haze of Stupidity?"
Hiei: "I know as much about games as I do puppies and huggs....Wake me up for the end of world"

Not to sound like your classical youtuber, but "just shut up and enjoy show!"
I honestly don't see why people are so turned off by Kai. Sure it has it's flaws, but so does the original. I just can't see what exactly is really turning people off by it, so please explain.

Gohan: "You're a Buddhist." Kuririn: "A hungry Buddhist!"
I'm also kind of losing the passion that I had for Kai when it first started. To me Kai just seems like almost every single Funimation DragonBall adventure. It starts out where it could be potentially amazing and winds up being a disappointment in one way or another.
Actually the funny thing is. I think a lot of people at this point would be more excited for Funimation to get it rather than as is right now. Because FUNi has the chance to finally give us something we've never had consistently. An accurate script for the Z-Era. Though of course like mentioned about...Funimation always starts out seeming potentially awesome and...er...yeah.

Well, DBZ was always DBZ. It had some flaws and we'd always complain about them. Now we have a chance 20 years later to view a less flawed adaption of the Manga and instead we just get more flaws.Forgotten Hero wrote:Not to sound like your classical youtuber, but "just shut up and enjoy show!"

I'll just post my thoughts from the other thread:
RoarkVegeta wrote:I thought it went by quickly. It covered about the first 3 chapters of Volume 18, I think. They got rid of some scenes aswell. There was a flashback to Piccolo killing Raditz with the Makkankosappo (Spelt wrong..) when he was speaking to Son Gohan, which was nice to see.
I rate it 6/10. Not good, but not bad.

What flaws make it so bad for you? Is the music that bad for you? Restoration? Cuts? What exactly is it?Gozar wrote:Well, DBZ was always DBZ. It had some flaws and we'd always complain about them. The problem with it is that the whole idea behind Kai is that its supposed to fix DBZ's problems and improve upon the original Z. However, what Kai has done is to fix some problems while creating NEW PROBLEMS in the process, and leaving some problems to be.Forgotten Hero wrote:What flaws make it so bad for you? For instance, in my opinion, Vegeta's armor corrected but not Nappa's is worse than both of them being wrong.
While I find this opinion stupid, I will defend to the death your right to have that opinion, my good man.ShinRogafuken wrote:For instance, in my opinion, Vegeta's armor corrected but not Nappa's is worse than both of them being wrong.
Two characters with incorrect colors = 100% wrong
One character with incorrect colors = 50% wrong
According to math, it's not worse.

And let's not forget the massive inconsistency when it comes to what gets cut and/or censored.
You've got a bruise (which was originally a gaping hole in the original) in one episode, then in the next episode, it's something that leaves a bloodstain?

How do you know that was the aim of DB Kai? Because that's the general consensus on the boards? I'm beginning to see it as more of the same approach Funimation took. They wanted to make it look better so they could air the show on television again. So they fixed it up to work in 16:9 HD... which required re-drawing/animating scenes. But they're also doing that to censor it because of new standards. And I think they may be editing it down for similar reasons why Funimation put constant bg music in their dub... because of how long it takes to get anywhere in DBZ and figuring they have a better shot at getting kid's attention if it's edited down.ShinRogafuken wrote:The problem with it is that the whole idea behind Kai is that its supposed to fix DBZ's problems and improve upon the original Z. I also think they may have decided to edit what they're doing down because of budgetary concerns. I don't think it has anything to do with being close to the manga anymore. That's just what I think fans would like to believe.
While I still think DB Kai is decently cool, it is making a bunch of errors with all the cuts/edits. The censoring is kind of dumb... and etc. I just think they could have re-animated the show if they wanted to cut it down and make it look like new again... change the music, re-record the actors, etc. It seems to be kind of it's own show, so it could have just been a lot more interesting and less "error filled" (at least when compared to the original DBZ since that's what they're currently editing) then it is.
I am losing interest now, but, I'm glad DBZ IS back on tv and a new generation is getting into it. I mainly am most excited about new intros/eyecatches/ending/music now then anything else.
It's still cool I suppose. For what it is. I know you have to look at it as a separate entity from the original DBZ. It's just hard for me to do that when it IS the original DBZ edited and censored and hacked away at.
Not to mention Nappa's are more closer to his actual colors, when compared to Vegeta's puke colorsB wrote:While I find this opinion stupid, I will defend to the death your right to have that opinion, my good man.ShinRogafuken wrote:For instance, in my opinion, Vegeta's armor corrected but not Nappa's is worse than both of them being wrong.
