"Dragon Soul" - US Home Release, US TV or Japanese Version?

Post by Goku100xKamehameha » Mon Jun 21, 2010 10:28 pm

Which do you prefer the US Home Release, US TV or The Original Japanese Version of Dragon Soul? I prefer The Original Japanese version!

I like the DVD version sung by Mr. Schemmel just a little more. I'd like it a LOT more if they hadn't liberally peppered it with auto-tune. That kinda stuff annoys me so muchly.

If you think someone is gonna lock it, I reccommend not making it in the first place..

But anyhow, I slightly like Vic Mignona's song version more, just because he sings without the auto-tuning and he is more aggresive in his singing, but both are have their own merits.

As for the actual show I prefer the uncut home release, I honestly think that not many people, maybe parents who want to get younger kids into Dragonball Kai would prefer it anyhow.

I much prefer Sean's version, it sticks a lot closer to the original vibe of the song, and just sounds more appeasing.

I know it would be closer if Vic wasn't trying to pep it up with random emphasis and the occasional voice cracking.

Vic Mignona is the one who voice Broly, right?

Yeah, he voiced Broli in the movie dubs. I really do feel sorry for his voice after that.

I definitely have to go with Sean Schemmel, I really get hyped up when it comes on although there is nothing like the Original Japanese version.

Sean's version. I really don't know how to describe it well, but Sean's version has more "power" to it than Vic's version.

Vic's version is nice in its own way, but I prefer Sean's rendition as it captures the spirit of the original.

I think that if they were spliced together, it would be awesome. I like both versions. I like the main verse as done by Vic, and kind of like the rest of the song by Sean. It would be cool if they were put together (yes, I know that someone did it on Youtube).

But of course the one on the home release has more power to it! Goku sings it! As opposed to Broly, who's only stronger than him up until the Buu saga. It only makes sense! Just kidding.

I like Schemmel's version more. I really don't like the rasp "rock out" voice that Vic uses for the TV version. It's not a horrible singing voice in itself, but it's just not all that great for Dragon Soul.

Now, if Dragon Soul were a punk rock song, I'd totally dig Vic's singing for it.

EDIT: The thread was edited to include the Japanese version? Well, I prefer the Japanese version most.

I remember reading somewhere that Vic said he originally sang the song closer to Sean's version, but Funimation asked him to re-record it again with a more "raspy" voice. I would love to hear his original version, but as of now I would have to choose Sean's because it is closer to the original.

TV version, for me. Sean's version is plagued by bad auto-tuning and, honestly, a lack of flare. This is not a fault on Sean, but Vic's won me over, to be honest. Even if he's not exactly in the same spirit.

Edit: Whoops, I meant to say TV version, not home release!

I prefer The Funi DVD/Blue Ray version by Sean over the Nicktoons TV opening by Vic. Sean's closer to the Japanese version and sounds better than Vic, who seems to suffer from over emphases of certain words.

You're giving the impression you prefer Vic's version but you chose the release which has Sean's version.

But Broly's power is maximum!

As for being more serious... I dunno, they're both good, I guess?

Vic's version is the one I prefer, I wish it'd get a release, even if just as a Special Feature on a Future Blu-ray.
Or MAYBE they could switch it when the Animation changes?

But could you please change the title of this thread? At first, I thought the thread was supposed to be asking if we wanted an Edited DVD/Blu-ray released.

Call it something like "Dragon Soul Dub, Home Release Version or TV Version?"

I think it'd be cool to hear a variety of different people sing it. For example, on the next release, have the intro sung by Vic and then have the next one sung by someone else, etc. Realistically, that would never EVER happen.

But from what we have now, I like Sean's overall. Vic has some great moments, but so does Sean, and Sean's in between parts just sound better to me.

I'd like to hear Vic's rendition without the "grit".

Yeah, Mignogna's Dragon Soul is way to rough; I can't stand to listen to it. Schemmėl's Dragon soul is more pleasant, though not as much fun... Where's Mignogna's original version? We need that!

Sean's Dragon Soul is way better, I would love for FUNi to dub the entire song!
