Heroic Trunks vs. Trunks theme -Faulconer
Heroic Trunks vs. Trunks theme -Faulconer
I have just one question regarding the 'Heroic Trunks' theme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bwvv69WNLU
Funimation version by the way. During the scene where Trunks kills Frieza I can't help but think that that was supposed to be the intended theme? I heard about it being replaced with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi_RIEWjh8s
(Edited)
I want to know whether this theme was the intended theme for the Funimation dub or not? If so, why the change?
-Thanks

You asked a very specific question about a very specific song from a very specific version of the show. It's all relevant and filled with the necessary content.
No-one's going to jump down your throat for no reason about it not being the original Japanese version. That's our primary focus and area of expertise here, but it's not like it's the only thing people do and/or want to talk about. I'm sure you'll get the answer you're looking for without having to jump into defensive mode

Heroic Trunks was used for the promo to promote Trunks - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4XLo_vwwwE
The original music used in the scene where Trunks kills frieza can be heard here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZ-XijHC3Gk
Trunks theme was used to replace what is linked above along with the track "Destruction".

Re: Heroic Trunks vs. Trunks theme -Faulconer
Funimation wanted heavy beyond belief for Trunks, they told us he was a villain character(I knew better, but didn't matter). The "Future Trunks"\"Destruction"\"Boogieman" version of the Trunks Kills Frieza scene was actually the third attempt by us to please Funimation. The one linked above was the 1st attempt. Originally the first Trunks music written was for that trailer. It was such a strong theme we decided to use it like crazy for the Trunks episodes, so you hear it in various arrangements like "Frieza's Death", "Episodic Trunks", and "Heaven Sent Trunks" (which is just part of Episodic Trunks).
"Trunks Powers Up" and "Trunks Appears" were pieces that were done for the 2nd attempt to please Funimation, they weren't extreme enough though.
"Destruction" was actually called "Beyond Belief" in the studio btw ^^.
And if I might self promote a little, this (Future's Sword)is something written years later as a result of feedback I got from people on this forum:

Wait you're Scott Morgan? As in the Scott Morgan whom worked in Faulconer Productions? I recognised you're name from somehwere. From the bottom of my heart I thank ye all for the music you made ^^ and thank you for the answer.
@Gonstead Thank you too, I didn't know that 'Frieza's Death' was the intended score. I remember hearing it when Goku sacrificed himself alongside Cell...BOOM! I also know that Advertisement...so that (Heroic Trunks) was it's sole purpose? Oh I get it now thanks.

Is there any way to find a full list of credits of who did what? And by the way... for the sake of curiosity who.. made Goku's Transformation theme? I think it's just named as Goku Super Saiyan. I just had a look at Julius' site. Thank you.

I don't think there's a published full list anywhere. I could make such a thing...but given my troubles with Bruce in the past I don't feel comfortable with that.
Mike is the one to thank for the SSJ1 theme
He was nice enough to ask me how I would handle it beforehand so I gave him some ideas(I think I suggested odd time piano stuff), but really it's his work.

I understand. Thanks man, I don't know how to feel about that.
One last question, this one regards both JAP and DUB fans:
Why is it difficult to get Kikuchi's and 'Faulconer Productions' score on a game?
I know FP was on LOG2 and Buu's Fury I presume Kicuchi's was on the JAP version (correct me if I'm wrong).
It's something demanded a lot by fans. I'd like to hear the FP score on a game someday and Kikuchi would be nice too ^^ (Yeah being spoilt... I can dream right?)
I figured you're the one to ask about the legal stuff? regarding copyright?

Re: Heroic Trunks vs. Trunks theme -Faulconer
I imagine the studios want custom music, and generally composers like to write new material if they can. The game companies probably don't want to have to license the music from Funimation either, that music is theirs while the show itself is Toei\Bird Studio's property right? Most of those games are made in Japan I think and they probably aren't very interested in the American score. I know there was one score done in the States by Yannis Brown, he created versions of our music. I think, like most composers, he would have rather written his own stuff.
Then there's the fact that Bruce sued Funimation over rights...then they counter sued...and they really reached no settlement that made any sense. That music is kinda dead, noone wants to do anything with it now.
Another factor is that sometimes game music is made to be adaptive or interactive. It's easier to do that with new music.

The original DBZ music has always been exclusive to the Japanese DBZ game editions, maybe it's due to the rights or it would cost more to use the authentic DBZ music on the international versions too.Bluebolt wrote:I understand. Thanks man, I don't know how to feel about that.

I wish they'd use the original DBZ music on the international versions but I keep getting fooled, fact is, they're not going to use it, so, if I really want it, I should just get the Japanese game versions.
Alternatively, I can just load up the music on my 360 and play a DBZ game as if it's the Japanese version.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
