Discussion specifically regarding the "refreshed" TV version of DBZ created in Japan for its 20th anniversary, including individual threads for each episode.

Please understand. Saban will actually give lots of love to Digimon. More than any other company.
For ages I'm waiting for a Japanese audio + English sub DVD release but all it exists is with the freaking English dub. Great for those that like Digimon's English dub, but I watched it in Japanese w/subs.
The best episode of Digimon for me was the one that had Gutsumon and his friend being killed by Devilmon and then Yamato had a Gohan SSJ2 moment. Epic. Sadly Devilmon escaped, I think.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
What do you think they'll do about the Anoyoichi Budokai stuff since they included it in their "ending montage" from episode 98? DO you think they'll just conveniently brush it under the rug?
I guess Madman's 'Complete Kai Collection' ain't so complete now. May give them reason to discontinue it sooner...

Yeah. I heard the English dub really killed that scene.
But I'd rather have the games and toys over an uncut release of something I can watch for free on Crunchyroll or even better:fansubbed.

This forum is so over-dramatic that it's not even funny.

As i already posted how this made my day, my school took away late starts for most likely the rest of my final year due to conflict with bargaining, but with this release I can say it was a good trade off.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Doctor. wrote:I've explained before, I'll just paraphrase myself.
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.
I'm totally fine with this. If I get a better Buu Arc dub, that's cool. Now, we just need to wait and speculate on all of this.

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.
Maybe by the time this hits the US Funimation will actually have a toy partner
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.
I really hope so. Has Funimation done anything to promote DBZKai to non-hardcore otaku?

How have they promoted it to "hardcore" otaku fans? It's clear from their treatment that they localized the show while making the script more accurate this around, with less cheesiness from the original Z. And many of the dub-only name adaptations in. Based on the episodes that I have watched (all of them) and the interviews that the cast has conducted at different conventions, they are trying to appeal to everyone. See Sabat's comment about why Krillin is still Krillin and not Kuririn.
Maybe the marketing of the show is different, but the treatment of the show indicates that they don't want to alienate people too much. Having said that, I hope that they dub the Buu saga of Kai the same way that they did the rest of Kai. Sabat's Vegeta has really improved, and I would like to see his new rendition when his character becomes temporarily crazy.

Um... isn't that what's happening?
Oh, wait... like, a Kai version of the Dragon Ball anime? That could be interesting, though the difference between old and new animation would be even more jarring.

I think they mean a literal 'Dragon Ball' Kai, covering the original Dragon Ball anime.
But, as far as this news being announced, it made my day! Finally Kai will cover the whole (Z) story, and a new English dub! I hope Gohan calls Buu a retard during their fight like the Japanese version, when they get to dubbing that part.
Since Kai was technically given a finale with a montage and everything, I wonder if this will still be called Dragon Ball Z Kai, or be given some lame subtitle like Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Terror of Majin Buu or something like that.
"Hey girlfriend, why don't you throw a few more punches? Afraid you might break a nail or somethin?"

I really want to see someone else try Gohan, though. Don't get me wrong, I think Kyle Hebert can act, it's just...his voice doesn't really fit the role in my opinion. I think that Colleen Clinkenbeard would make a very interesting Gohan if she can make herself sound the age. If she can't, then Sean Schemmel would be pretty cool if he can differentiate his voice from Goku enough.
If Toonami gets a big enough budget, then it would be awesome for them to air it.
