That's awesome. Look's like Maeda's work.
Re: What artbook is this?

The artist is Junya Furusawa. I'm guessing this is something self-published.DarkPrince_92 wrote:That's awesome. Look's like Maeda's work.
Re: What artbook is this?
Seems there's similarities to Toriyama in their other work - http://historyofhyrule.com/publications ... index.htmlMosaic wrote:The artist is Junya Furusawa. I'm guessing this is something self-published.DarkPrince_92 wrote:That's awesome. Look's like Maeda's work.

Re: What artbook is this?
Comic City Osaka is a dojinshi convention. Basically, this is an unofficial DB rough illustration collection put out by a DB fan who also happens to be a professional manga artist who has worked on official Zelda manga. So it's pretty high-quality DB fan art drawn by a professional artist, but still fan art rather than an official art book. Junya Furusawa has a page on Japanese Wikipedia, but not one on English Wikipedia at the moment.

Junya Furusawa has a pixiv account too; but I don't know the handle.
Re: What artbook is this?
I think that's the point: they're original roughs of his old official art.DarkPrince_92 wrote:So uhhh... they only consist of roughs? *Changes subject frantically*

So he has done official DB artwork then? I admit, I pretty much just read his Wikipedia page and didn't see any mention of DB there, so I assumed this was purely fan art on his part.kei17 wrote:I think that's the point: they're original roughs of his old official art.

Re: What artbook is this?
He used to publish some DBZ doujinshi and often contributed fan art to anime magazines under the name of Furujun. He became famous for copying Toriyam's art style, and then he was hired as an official artist during his college life. He debuted as a pro mangaka as Jun'ya Furusawa and stopped doing background work for the franchise probably after graduation. I think he was never officially credited for his DB work, so it's not mentioned on Wikipedia.Herms wrote:So he has done official DB artwork then? FYI, he also did a lot of chubby shota stuff... which kinda explains why he always seems to put extra effort into making kid characters adorable in his art.

It's a fan publication, but those drawings aren't fanarts, they're totally official, I've seen them everywhere, for yearsHerms wrote:Comic City Osaka is a dojinshi convention. By the way I can't help but cringe when I see someone's eyes in DB do that trick that Goku's eyes do here. How on earth can somebody have one iris half a nose's length higher then the other?kei17 wrote:

That "trick" can be often seen in manga art. If you consider perspective strictly, eyes have to be drawn like this:Tzigi wrote:By the way I can't help but cringe when I see someone's eyes in DB do that trick that Goku's eyes do here. In this way, however, facial expression can be unimpressive and not easily recognizable when viewed from some angles, especially in small panels. So, many manga artists including Toriyama purposely ignore perspective and draw the eye on the near side of face like when it's viewed from the front.
A similar thing happens to ears, too. They can be totally seen in front view, but it's not accurate.
This is why 3D CGI can never reproduce Toriyama's style perfectly.
