I believe in the latest podcast with Julian that is also explained.DB_Fan wrote:I have a similiar question, why does Bulma refers to Goku as 'Son-Kun'? I watched the original version several times, and never understood this.

This thread makes me smile.
I remember a while back there was a podcast discussing the way some of the characters talk, and at some point the whole son family was compared... maybe that evolved in a forum thread afterward... Meh. And I was still excited when I heard Goten yell "Boku Goten!" in movie10... I dunno, I guess because it says a lot about how he differs from Goku and Gohan and is still similar to both...
Ur... Yeah.

I just checked, and use it left and right from his first line. It's like the third or fourth word he speaks.Herms wrote:Future Gohan uses "Ore" during the special Trunks manga chapter ("It seems you'll surpass me it a few more months"), and probably in the Trunks TV special as well (too lazy to check right now).

If there is no distinction between "I" and "me" in Japanese, then how can the Japanese people tell the difference? I assume it has something to do with the place in the sentence?Herms wrote:Future Gohan uses "Ore" during the special Trunks manga chapter ("It seems you'll surpass me it a few more months"), and probably in the Trunks TV special as well (too lazy to check right now). Then Ultimate Gohan uses "Ore" as well, though he's only seen using it when talking to Majin Buu. Not that he's shown using something different when talking to other people, it's just that the only time he's shown using any pronoun to refer to himself is during his scenes with Buu, and even then only in the scene where Gotenks and Piccolo are absorbed and onward. One of the things about Japanese is that it's easy to leave pronouns out of your speech, so a character can talk for pages before using one, in situations where any English translation would have to include one constantly. Another thing to note is that in Japanese there's no distinction between "I" and "me". The same word is used for both.

Well, is there any real difference in meaning between "I" and "me" in English? It's really just a matter of grammer.

I don't think this is considered necro-posting [of the no-no kind] because I'm trying to continue conversation, but who knows...
, it seems he isn't his 'Full Power' and 'mastered' self as a Super Saiyan. Does Toei write him as using 'ore' or 'ora'?
Thanks!
I was just wondering, how does this apply to Super Saiyan Gokû in the films? I imagine movie 9-13 Gokû uses 'ora' as a Super Saiyan, but in movies 4-8 (espiciallyHerms wrote:Goku usually uses "Ora", the hick form of "Ore". However, when he first transforms into a Super Saiya-jin he switches to using "Ore". Super Saiya-jin Goku again uses "Ore" when he fights No. 19, but after training in the Room of Spirit and Time he uses "Ora" even as a Super Saiya-jin, perhaps because he got used to the form. As Vegetto he uses "Ore", probably due to Vegeta's influence and the same is true of Gogeta.

Thanks!

Well, here's the Kanzentai version of this guide. Now with pictures! Everything's better with pictures.
I haven't watched any of the movies for a long time, so I don't really know. Sorry.JulieYBM wrote:I was just wondering, how does this apply to Super Saiyan Gokû in the films? I'm pretty sure it's just with the Freeza fight, and only in the anime.SonGokuGT wrote:Great read as always, Herms. I really found Piccolo's interesting! Does he keep up the Ore-tachi at any other point n the series or just the fight with Freeza?

Re: Personal pronoun guide
Just noticed something.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bwIRg5ogqgc
Goku has used "Ore" in only two fights, but here he uses it again for some reason.
I checked the original version of the fight between SSJ3 Gpku and Fat Buu, but there he used the simple "Ora".
What would this be for?
