Holy shit...

APPENDED NOTES BY ADMINISTRATOR:
This thread is about FUNimation's announcement to release "Dragon Box" sets for the DBZ series in North America. This was announced at their industry panel at Otakon 2009, reiterated with slightly more information in a press release, and covered on the home page of Daizenshuu EX on June 18th & 19th in detail with images and minor commentary.

This is worth ending my self-imposed ban from the boards for (as well as my 6000th post!).

HURRAH! Looks like I'll be ditching my Season Sets (the Z ones, at least) in the end after all. Wonder what the release date is...

...

I never thought I'd see the day... I don't even know what to think...

I guess I'm glad I only bought the first four Orange Bricks, though... Haha

In before "WHY ISN'T THE BOXSET YELLOW!!1"

I'm really interested in these hardcover books, though. And I love that it starts up in the original Japanese... This is a sheer for-the-fans release if I've ever seen one.

Yeah, looking back, it's almost $300 bucks I spent on those sets...

But these are too perfect, ya know? How could I pass these up? What I need to do is find a dubbie that will really love my box sets and get them out of here before the first set is released.

Damn it all, I spent all that money on those bloody widescreen sets. Ah well, anyone want to buy seasons 1-8 off me?

If it doesn't have the Funi dub, I'm not buying.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

It's like...FUNi was a bad bad, evil little Hitler...and now they are...like...what's beyond a Rou Dai Kaioshin? Cuz that's what they are to me now!

As long as this is what they say it is not something wrapped in bullshit. This really is a release for the fans that they have ignored for so long. Don't get me wrong, they tried what they thought would be good, but always the original Japanese version fans were on the side.

Not anyone.

Well, I was going to save my 1500 post for something special, but this is pretty cool news. Maybe we have the seasons sets to thank for this release? Maybe Funi made so much mad cash off of them they figured, What the hell, give them the dragonbox.

I don't see why they wouldn't still include it. Not having it as the default language anymore seems like a smart move, though.

Oh I'm exactly the same way. I already loved them for saving One Piece, but provided there's no yet-unseen "catch" with these Dragon Boxes, they'll have essentially righted their wrongs with DBZ, and will own my soul.

Okay, maybe not to that extent but STILL.

I mean, I'll hold my breath until we get more info, but I NEED the Funi Dub. If it does, I'll probably sell my Seasons 1 & 2 sets.

Wait, was it Funi who announced it, or Toei? I'm confused. If it is from Funi, then it definitely has the dub. I'm sold, if that's the case.

I FUCKING knew it.

And here, after I sold out and bought the damn Orange Bricks thinking this was it. And it looks like my theory was correct.

*sigh*

Here, Funimation. Just...just take my damn wallet AGAIN.

That made me realize something. Even if you can't afford the entire series of these new releases, they'll at least make a damn great replacement for Season Sets 1 and 2 and their awful video quality.

It's FUNimation. They announced it just today from their panel at Otakon. So yeah, I'd say including the dub is a given.

*gets ready to put my DBZ season 1 and 2 sets on EBay*

I mean, goddamn. Toei has just been loving Funi since One Piece.

Yeah, man. I'm just fine with the rest of my Season sets, but changing the color settings for Seasons 1 & 2 on your TV can only go so far.

Or, rather, we now have something to sell to get the cash for the Dragon Boxes. Thus is my plan...

So all of those people hoping for a 4:3 announcement in the Big Announcement thread had reason to believe it after all :P
