Yeah I was hoping it would be Region free so I could use a PS3. Never mind DVD is fine. :(
Well look at it this way, almost everything plays DVD's now.

With the blu-ray version, even if it did work on your PS3, if you wanted to watch it somewhere other than the TV where your PS3 sits, you'd hafta lug that bad boy around.

Yeah true.

Would be a lot easier if FUNimation made everything region free... or at least region 2. :D

At the bottom of the Blu-Ray page they have a pie chart showing FUNimations region coding, it says "Free": 7% and "Locked": 93%".
I got AxelMusic to edit their product info to include the image for the DVD as well.

I preordered the DBZ Kai Blu-ray Boxset over axelmusic for 38,45 $ incl. shipping costs and taxes etc.
The warehouse for Europe is according to axelmusic in Germany.

My thoughts for the upcoming DBZ Kai releases are:

DBZ Kai Part One: 1-13 (13 Episodes) / Son-Goku as Boxart

DBZ Kai Part Two: 14-26 (13 Episodes) / Piccolo as Boxart

DBZ Kai Part Three: 27-39 (13 Episodes) / Vegeta as Boxart

DBZ Kai Part Four: 40-52/54 (13/15 Episodes) / (Freeza???) as Boxart

If I calculate right, the Freeza Saga ends in DB Kai most probably with Episode 52.
And this would mean that DBZ Kai "Season 1" end with DBZ KAI Boxset Part 4!
The word "KAI" means in the old North Germanic language Frisian "Kämpfer engl. Fighter" respectively "Krieger engl. Warrior"!

So, you're lucky to own a code free player?

No.

But I get once, when the Eee Box with Blu-ray drive is out!

I hope ASUS release it till 18. May 2010 ... Then I need only remove the region code
with a tool, if the bd-drive has a region code restriction!

You might want to redo those calculations, since in episode 51 they'll be making the wishes to Shenlong and Porunga. So, more than likely, the Freeza arc will end around episode 54. Which is convenient, because then it will line up perfectly with the end of the 4th Blu-ray box set.

Yes I have noticed it also.

OK.

Then I let me surprise whether DBZ Kai Part 4 has 13 or 15 Episodes, beacause
Funimation want to set a final point for the forgetten "Season 1"!

"Season 2" could be the Cell Saga and "Season 3" the Majin Buu Saga and "Season 1" is the Freeza Saga.

Note:

Ahhh. Freeza Saga end in DBZ with Episode 107.

Calculation:
107/2= appx. 54

Now my question, could it be that DB Kai ends with Episode 145 or so? half of 291 (293 with 2 Specials) ???
So 50% cut off footage for DB Kai ?

I suspect the first two sets will be thirteens and the next two fourteens, assuming the Namek arc ends with 54.

Thats a fair-minded option, 1st two boxsets of "Season 1" with each 13 episodes
and last 2 boxsets of "Season 1" with each 14 episodes.

Let us surprise!

I hope that the funi dub is in DTS-HD audio and not in DD5.1 ...

btw. the DBZ Kai Boxart looks like the Boxart from the single-disc remastered dvd releases of special 1 and 2:

Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku Movie

I mean both sets (DBZ Kai and Specials) have the same colors: white and yellow ...

Well the japanese home releases of Kai have the next episode previews and previous episode recaps. Weve heard from Christopher Sabat's Facebook page that FUNimation are going all out to make these perfect, if they truly are then I guess they should include both next episode previews and previous episode recaps.

Has FUNimations DVD release of Kai been confirmed as 16:9?

Yeah... But that person might just assumed that, not've known about the whole issue of the DVDs and BDs being different aspect ratios in Japan.

Whether the DVDs are fullscreen or widescreen doesn't bother me, so long as they're not cropped.

Does not compute.

If it's "widescreen", it has to be cropped. The TV broadcast and R2 DVD release that's in 16:9 is a crop of what's clearly being produced in a full-frame 4:3 aspect ratio, as shown by the Blu-ray release.

Sorry. I forgot it was already cropped, laughably at some times too.
