Kai Episode 44 (14 February 2010)

Re: Kai Episode 44 (14 February 2010)
DBZ was almost 300 episodes long. You can't really expect them to come up with new tracks every ten episodes or anything, so some redundancy should be expected.
Besides, it's not the number of tracks that really matters most. It's when and how they're used.

Z was pretty much the same way.DemonRin wrote:Heck, One Piece (Toei's other huge show) lives off of mostly the same two-disc soundtrack. It only ever gets new tracks when a new movie comes out, and then the tracks are borrowed from the movie score.
If it wasn't using pieces of Dragon Ball music, it had a few borrowed from DBZ Movie 1 for the Saiyan and Freeza sagas. Even the Boo saga dipped into music from Movies 7 through 9, notably 7 for the final fights and Boo being killed by the Genki Dama.

That's quite common in anime series (or was back in the days) to borrow music from movies released earlier. What I like about Kai score is that it's a lot simmilar to Super Butouden series score. I don't like much the insert songs. I like Giniyu Tokusentai theme in anime, but don't like it in it's standalone form on Kai Song Collection. I like Saiyan Blood, but don't like how they used it in series.... It's matter of taste after all. What I still don't like about Kai is how each of the shot looks different in style and art, it really is annoying for me to watch.

Z had a pretty annoying habit during the Freeza saga of switching art teams within mid-episodes. So you'd have decent animation in one moment, then along comes ridiculously huge, pointed hair on tiny deformed heads with everyone having triangular feet in another scene.

Was that line about Freeza only using 1/3 of his power in the original anime? Or are fansubs just lying to me?

Well, sort of. He doesn't say he's using only a third of his power, but rather 50% of his maximum. So if the fansub is saying only a third, then yes, they're lying to you.Amigo Ten wrote:Was that line about Freeza only using 1/3 of his power in the original anime? Or are fansubs just lying to me?

Thought so. It was "Half my power? I'm not even using 1/3!" or something to that effect.

I want to know the name of that animation studio/director so that I can complain about it more. I really really hate the art style they used. It just looks so sloppy. There's one studio that is just awesome though.Tsukento wrote:Z had a pretty annoying habit during the Freeza saga of switching art teams within mid-episodes. Re: Kai Episode 44 (14 February 2010)
Yeah, they tend to save them for the most important episodes. But then the episode after has just the worst animation. Like so:
I'm gonna guess that the major fight with Freeza is gonna be heavily trimmed down, so we'll be spared on heavy amounts of animation like this scene:

That actually reminds me, how much of the Super Saiyan fight has good animation? I have to wonder if Kai will make the jumbo hair look only better...or just worse.

I honestly don't remember there being much. I remember it mostly ranging from decent to ugly as hell until the point where Goku decides to call it quits and when Freeza cuts himself into pieces.

Re: Kai Episode 44 (14 February 2010)
Most animes do this as well too. Often times you have an animation director who has a good grasp of how the characters should look and be animated (a good example is the episodes where Goku turns Super Saiyan and where Freeza refuses to give up) and then animators that are varying degree of good to meh (I refuse to call any animators on DB/DBZ "bad" because even a bad animation day in DBZ is still far more tolerable than a bad animation day in other shows). By the time the Cell and Buu arcs came around they had better balance between the animators but the Namek/Freeza saga was the worst animated arc in the Z series.Tsukento wrote:I honestly don't remember there being much. Oh I'm aware of all of that. Just noting how annoying it was especially for those episodes. :p

Sorry to bump this topic, but I thought I would mention that this episode barely beat One Piece in the ratings:

It's probably because of Goku vs. Freeza and the anticipation of Goku turning Super Saiyan soon in the series.
