Would you mind a replacement score for the Kai 2.0 dub?
We know this is most likely never, ever going to happen, but it's fun to wonder about either way. Some people on the forum absolutely detest Sumitomo's score for Kai 2014, or Sumitomo's music in general. So I ask those people, and anyone else who wishes to reply, would you be okay with a replacement score for the Kai dub? How would you react if it's better? How would you react it it's worse?

Re: Would you mind a replacement score for the Kai 2.0 dub?
As much as I dislike Sumitomo's music in Kai and Super, the show is the show is the show is the show. Dubs shouldn't go around replacing random things within the show to make it "better." The show should give viewers the exact same experience no matter which language they're watching it in (within reason, of course). If you replace the music, it's an entirely different experience.
Unfortunately, we just have to accept that a show we like has crappy music. It happens. We'll just have to try our luck with another show someday.
Hell, maybe we need a third TV show for Sumitomo to finally finish "warming up" and give us something worth listening to.

I thought I didn't like Yamamoto's work and then it grew on me awfully fast, you don't know what you have until it's gone :/ As for new scores on dubs, well, I think when there's a case like this, with a lot of inconsistency and a lot of backlash to the music, then yeah, go for it. Within reason.

As the OP pointed out, it's completely impossible for this to happen, as this practice simply has no place in a modern dub from Funimation. Even if it were possible, I can't think of any reason to change the music.
So, I would say I do mind here.

If it was replaced with Kikuchi's score and placed by someone competent, I wouldn't mind at all (since I'm going to do the same for myself anyway).

Well, as much as a supporter as I am of Sumitomo's work, I despise the majority of the Kai 2.0 score, and if it was possible, I certainly wouldn't mind a replacement score, as long as it's competently done.

Agreed. If FUNimation would at least put his music back in for Kai then I would buy the BDs. But as long as Kikuchi is the only "music" option I will never do it. As for what OP is asking, I enjoyed Sumitomo's music once they started putting in new tracks around the time that Gohan was fighting Super Buu. It got much better from that point forward simply because of that. I think a bigger issue is whether or not they'll fix the green/yellow tint issue.Dbzfan94 wrote:While I know it'll never happen ever, I would love for Team Faulconer to return

I wouldn't mind them replacing the Sumitomo score with Kikuchi.
Re: Would you mind a replacement score for the Kai 2.0 dub?
I would love if FUNi decided to use Kikuchi's score en lieu of Sumitomo's dreadful music.

Re: Would you mind a replacement score for the Kai 2.0 dub?
I'd only like it if it was Kikuchi. I'm one of the few suckers who has actually grown to like Kikuchi in Kai more than Yamamoto (though I still like his score, too), and with Sumitomo being so hit and miss I'd much rather have a score I love being used even if it's not quite as good as it was in Z. I'd also greatly appreciate a consistent score from beginning to end. I can deal with Sumitomo and I'll still buy Funimation's release when it comes out for the dub, but I really would rather have Kikuchi for the rest of Kai. I've accepted that as nothing more than a pipe dream, though, so I can deal.

Bring back Bruce Faulconer or Shuki Levy. Hell, That one guy who composed music for the Budokai games is a good choice for me as well.
I didn't grow up with that "Cha La La" nonsense either.

That guy once scored Kai and got FIRED and his music entirely replaced because of his plagiarism.Marjo wrote:Hell, That one guy who composed music for the Budokai games is a good choice for me as well.
Re: Would you mind a replacement score for the Kai 2.0 dub?
Bruce will never be coming back because of various lawsuits against Funimation about payment. I dont know about Shuki Levy. The guy you're talking about who did the games was the original composer for Kai who got fired for plagiarism.Marjo wrote:Bring back Bruce Faulconer or Shuki Levy. And that "Cha la la nonsense" is the definition of TRUE Dragon Ball music.
Back on topic - No, replacement music is part of Funimations dark past, it doesn't matter how poor Sumitomo's score is.

Re: Would you mind a replacement score for the Kai 2.0 dub?
Regardless of the quality of Sumimoto's score I can't support the dub replacing it just on principle. We're past the days of replacement scores in dubs and I would rather we not go back. Just look at how splintered the Dragon Ball fanbase is over the different musical scores that already exist. I don't think we need more of that.
Re: Would you mind a replacement score for the Kai 2.0 dub?
Stick to Sumimoto's score, unless it's a fan edit of Buu kai cutting out more filler and plot contradictions. If a fan edit then...stick to Sumimoto's score, BUT, change stuff around and use some of his better tracks from Super and the films etc.
Re: Would you mind a replacement score for the Kai 2.0 dub?
I'd like a Funi Dub remix of their 90s music. Update the composition and instrumentation for the current generation, keeping it within spirit, and with better placement, which includes knowing when to stop.
