Why would a pride trooper even relish the idea of becoming a destruction god ?

They must be aware of the job description and what the post entails, right ? It's like the Justice League getting all giddy at the idea of becoming new horsemen of the apocalypse. Aren't they supposed to be the cream of the crop bunch of goody-2-shoes who uphold absolute peace and justice across the universe ? Wouldn't having the obligation and prerogatives to sack entire worlds without any consequences be very counter-productive to their peacekeeping duties ? Maybe they have some sort of latent motives which require snatching the esteemed position in order to come to fruition ?

Being the God makes you the top dog of your universe besides your attending Angel, Zeno, and the Grand Priest. It gives you the power and authority to exert your will, or choose not to, on everyone who lives inside it. With such power and authority, you could squash anything perceived as evil and bring justice to the universe.

It's very likely this kind of thinking on the side of the Gods of Destruction and Kai's in the exempt universe from the tournament is what allowed them to attain a "high mortal level" because they weed out the bad people from the good and ensure the proper civilizations flourish while others are stamped out.

From what I can see, the job is to pretty much get rid of planets where the creatures present bad morals. Planets that produce creature like Freeza, it's the job of the God of Destruction to get rid of them. So it makes sense for a pride trooper to want the job. In a way, it makes absolute sense. Gods like Beerus and Champa were lazy in their duties. They only destroy planets if they either had bad food, or if the inhabitants did something that bothered them personally. That is why their universes were ranked on the low end of things.

Like Ekrolo said, I'm pretty sure a sort of "purge the wicked so that the just may flourish" is how the God of Destruction position was intended by Zen'o to work. Those that destroy callously and carelessly are in fact lowering the Mortal Level of their universes, and are now facing the consequences of their actions.

After Zenos annihilation idea sparing only angels, there is literary nothing saint/special or beneficial to be a Kaioshin/Hakaishin anymore.

All the GoD's we know so far are bad examples, i mean, U7 Kaio just recently accused Beerus for sleeping too much. On the other side, we have seen a weird little George Bush like GoD from a different universe, who seems to be very pragmatic, saying stuff like "mortal's power level high = GoD job well done".

Besides, his GoD is a clown :p.
