He didn't confirm anything, he just provided his own interpretation and seems to know as little about other writers' intent with their episodes as we do.
Fascinating really.

Great point. I thought it's a confirmation the first time I read it.dbgtFO wrote:He didn't confirm anything, he just provided his own interpretation and seems to know as little about other writers' intent with their episodes as we do.

Some of the writers don't care about power scaling obviously.

Many of the writers are clearly not fans of the original 2 series.

Re: One of the writers of Super confirms why Goku went Blue against his opponents in the recruitment episodes.
It may not be "confirmation" but it still gives us a picture of what one of the writers was thinking when goku wasn't needing blue but kept turning into it anyway because of reasons mentioned..
I assume the guy knows a little about future episodes as well, none of the characters might be displaying blue level feats there ( obviously ), he also wrote the 17 episode so if that's how he interpreted other episodes, 17 isn't really blue level either is what comes as the natural conclusion..
Anyway it's all incredible broken but here's my version of piecing it together

Re: One of the writers of Super confirms why Goku went Blue against his opponents in the recruitment episodes.
Seems like it was Nagamine's idea to have Goku fight everyone as a SSB then.
Though Goku didn't transform against Buu, and with Krillin he first fought untransformed. With 17, he first went SSJ. With Gohan, he went SSJ2. With Freezer he went straight to SSB.
It's clear Goku gauged his opponents first with a form to be on par with them, and then used SSB to motivate them.

I thought this was all common sense. Instead some people were acting like they were having some sort of breakdown over Krillin pushing back SSJBlue's energy beams, when it was clearly obvious Goku was testing him.

What needs to stop is people like you dismissing one of the main writers of the show. He may not know exactly what was going on in each episode. But he knows the over arching scale and levels of the characters. Krillin was not on SS or SSB level.dbgtFO wrote:He didn't confirm anything, he just provided his own interpretation and seems to know as little about other writers' intent with their episodes as we do.

It's also the same guy who thinks 17 is 3rd strongest on the team and said he doesn't know who would win in a Frieza vs 17 fight so i wouldn't take what he's saying to heart or as a confirmation, he already said he wasn't responsible for how the story goes or the characters, that's why he's vague with his answers if he says anything that sounds like a confirmation he would get in trouble.Ki Breaker wrote:It may not be "confirmation" but it still gives us a picture of what one of the writers was thinking when goku wasn't needing blue but kept turning into it anyway because of reasons mentioned..

I have time for the writers' opinions, but I think it's important to note, that even they aren't completely sure, when it's not something they wrote.JulianStyles wrote: What needs to stop is people like you dismissing one of the main writers of the show. It's best to wait for evidence in the episodes themselves.

I'm not that knowledgeable about was the norm is for writers on a TV Show, but... Does anyone know if writers knowing so little of other writers intent is a usual thing? Because you'd think this would be aspects each writer would want to keep in mind.dbgtFO wrote:He didn't confirm anything, he just provided his own interpretation and seems to know as little about other writers' intent with their episodes as we do.

No way, man. Every bit of storyboarding and choreography exists to telegraph feats and nothing else. Characters aren't supposed to be people, they're supposed to be robots that we can quantify and rank relative to one another. It's the only reason they exist.precita wrote:I thought this was all common sense. It's clear now thanks to Toshio's tweet combined with the fact that Goku didn't go Blue at first during these recruitment episodes, yeah... but taken by themselves, the episodes are irritatingly vague about it and I think that's a bit of a problem. There wouldn't be all these long debates over whether 17 was Blue-level if Toei's writers actually provided some elaboration within the script, which leads me to believe they're sometimes willing to forego consistency for the sake of getting the target audience excited. I suppose that's understandable if they wanted to keep up viewer interest considering how long the recruitment phase of the arc actually was, but a small line of justification here and there wouldn't hurt either.emperior wrote:It's clear Goku gauged his opponents first with a form to be on par with them, and then used SSB to motivate them.

It's also stated that 17 was holding back in that episode and both Dende and Goku said he would be terrifying as an ennemy so i doubt this motivation theory or whatever he was trying to say applies to him.Marlowe89 wrote:It's clear now thanks to Toshio's tweet combined with the fact that Goku didn't go Blue at first during these recruitment episodes, yeah... but taken by themselves, the episodes are irritatingly vague about it and I think that's a bit of a problem. If we're going to do ridiculous exaggeration strawman arguments here, I can imply that you and the people who think similiar to you believe that characters should be however powerful they wish whenever the plot calls for it. Krillin can beat Hit & Jiren at the same time, no problemo. As long as there's that "character interaction" it doesn't matter. I mean, why would it matter how consistently strong the characters are in a show that's forever been about measuring power?Zephyr wrote:No way, man. Anyway in terms of this topic, I don't think this confirms anything at all, especially since he literally says "That's how I interpret it" - aka he's clueless like the rest of us and just guessing.
Re: One of the writers of Super confirms why Goku went Blue against his opponents in the recruitment episodes.
You misunderstand. To an extent, how certain characters match up strength-wise to other characters is obviously important. Otherwise, where would bravery and strategy even come into play? If Krillin is on par with Super Saiyan Blue Goku, then him standing up to Goku isn't brave, and him ringing Gohan out isn't an impressive show of strategy. What I was getting at was that not every little bit of fighting exists to feed us that kind of power scaling information.Asura wrote:If we're going to do ridiculous exaggeration strawman arguments here, I can imply that you and the people who think similiar to you believe that characters should be however powerful they wish whenever the plot calls for it. If you think Krillin is on par with Super Saiyan Blue or whatever because of a scene that was clearly not meant to telegraph information about power scaling, then you're looking for that kind of stuff too often, and it would definitely appear that you think that kind of stuff is the only thing that matters. Because you're looking for it in a place where it doesn't exist, and then complaining about it not existing in a place where it isn't meant to exist. It makes you look starved for the stuff.
If you think that he's on par because of said scene, and are outright ignoring the very clearly stated dialog that confirms the contrary, then you're also ignoring the information that is meant to telegraph information about power scaling.
If you're complaining that "the feats don't line up with the statements!", then, again: you're looking for "feats" where there aren't meant to be any. And if you're at the point where you disagree with that, and believe that every bit of fighting is supposed to telegraph feats, then my initial post wasn't much of an exaggerated strawman after all.

Re: One of the writers of Super confirms why Goku went Blue against his opponents in the recruitment episodes.
The guy just said "I made him blue to motivate others". Still that doesn't mean that he actually confirms anything. The rest of the stuff that handles the animation could interpret that scene differently. Maybe they thought that adding blue again and would make the episode look more amazing. Unfortunately, it's hard to learn the truth from staff that works in a specific position. The person that could confirm anything should be in a managerial position or in general a supervisor that overlooks all the operations in an episode.
Still his interpretation does make sense, Goku acts like he goes all out to motivate his friends. Like saying them "this is serious and you need to be ready to face guys as strong as I am now"

It surprises me that people get so bent out of shape about that one when 18 says straight up that Krillin is hopelessly outmatched by himself and has to bail him out with a surprise attack.precita wrote:I thought this was all common sense.
