STORYBOARDS/DRAFTS:
The first several pages of any given chapter's roughs/storyboards/drafts have been posted on the official Dragon Ball website for quite some time now (in all likelihood done in an attempt to combat piracy and control the narrative by releasing teases of specific information and context at their own discretion). The drafts for Dragon Ball Super manga chapter 100 were posted on December 14 (Japan time). Unlike most of these draft previews, the chapter title was not shared, and only a single page was shared. As these specific articles are generally removed from the website upon the chapter's formal release, archived versions of these links (such as this) are generally shared by fandom.

THREAD/DISCUSSION INFORMATION

This is the "official" discussion thread for Dragon Ball Super manga chapter 100. All content regarding this specific chapter would be great to include here in this thread, rather than the dedicated / larger / all-encompassing ongoing thread. Posts that are specific to the individual chapter in the gigantic thread with no relevance to the larger series will be reported and/or removed.

Q: When will this thread open?

A: This thread will be opened by a Kanzenshuu moderator when the first official promotion of the respective chapter occurs. This may be when its storyboards are shared, or in some kind of formal news article leading up to that point. Please do not create a separate thread of your own to discuss this chapter.

Q: What is the history behind a [blank]-specific discussion thread?

A: We established episode-specific discussion threads beginning with Dragon Ball Kai in 2011, followed by the Dragon Ball Super television series in 2015. These episode-specific threads allowed people to discuss just that: those specific episodes, without being interrupted by other discussions regarding general production, promotion, etc. We didn't create corresponding Dragon Ball Super manga chapter threads at its debut due to the nature of its production: it was initially billed as a "comicalization" of the television series, and the first arc barely stood on its own as a unique production, rather than supplemental/incidental/disposable. We had kept the larger thread out of inertia from those earlier chapters, and have wavered for literal years over whether or not to separate them out.

Q: We've had worthwhile individual chapters since chapter five. This is absurd. Why are you just starting individual discussion threads so many years into the manga, when the TV series had it from the start?

A: All of that is correct. Maybe we will go back and pull out threads for past chapters. Maybe we won't. We should have done this a long time ago. Better late than never. This is the plan for now on and is not currently up for discussion or reconsideration. Thank you.

Q: OK, but... so what's the point?

A: At Kanzenshuu we believe in history and preservation. It is worthwhile to future versions of ourselves and entirely new future fans to be able to dig back and find real-time reactions to specific productions (such as a specific episode or chapter). It's much easier to do this when the discussions are separated into these unique threads.

Q: When will new threads be created?

A: Threads for new/upcoming manga chapters will be created by a Kanzenshuu administrator at an appropriate point in time following the release of a previous chapter, and ahead of that next chapter's release schedule (which itself includes the official drafts/storyboards).

Q: OK, so what do you expect us to actually discuss in a chapter thread, particularly ahead of its release?

A: For some time now, Shueisha (in all likelihood to combat "leaks" and illegal piracy) has released "draft" pages of upcoming chapters in the two weeks leading up to any given chapter's release. These are official pieces of information dissemination and absolutely up for discussion. We welcome questions about where and how to legally and officially consume the manga. We do not condone nor allow the discussion or encouragement of piracy. Following a chapter's release, of course anything relating to that chapter and its contents are up for discussion in a specific thread.

Q: What kinds of "sources" can we discuss?

A: You can discuss whatever you want, so long as it lives up to the community guidelines. It is recommended that you link to / discuss actual sources of information, rather than second-hand accounts. Twitter and its users are not "sources" of information. Shueisha has its own official Dragon Ball website and weekly news broadcast on YouTube, which will in all likelihood be your actual primary sources of information leading up to a chapter's release.

Q: What if I have something to say about another chapter that's not this chapter?

A: Is what you have to say/ask/post even tangentially related to this chapter? That's fine. Does it have absolutely nothing to do with this chapter? Post it elsewhere. These chapter-specific threads do not automatically close after a new chapter comes out; you are free to keep discussing a specific chapter for as long as you all feel like talking about it.

Q: So what do we do with the big/main thread?

A: The dedicated / larger / all-encompassing ongoing thread is still perfect for overall/holistic discussion regarding the manga, its production, its promotion, its content relation to other parts of the franchise, etc.

Q: I want to learn more about what's going on with this manga's production!

A: Check out Episode #0489 of our podcast for an extreme deep-dive (with all the receipts you can eat!) into the production of the manga, including all of the ways that Toyotaro, Akira Toriyama, and Victory Uchida each individually contribute to it.

Q: What's on the horizon / what does the future hold for the manga?

A: We have no idea! We'll all find out together!

It's interesting that only a single page was shared this time. I wonder if the chapter deviates heavily from the film?

They are definitely hiding something. Uchida already teased something unexpected will happen. Lets hope its something good and not Gohan missing and the fight will go on...

Can't believe we are finally here, at the end of the slowest retelling ever. What a nap it was for the fandom, nothing new to discuss for over a year, it felt like going back to the early 00s  .

Looking forward to the second half of this chapter, really.

Imagine. All the gags in this arc about Gohan's terrible eyesight, placed there in a breadcrumb trail leading up to him whiffing the final attack.

That said, there aren't very many ways in which something broadly "unexpected" can happen by this point - I can't think of anything outside of the broad categories of extension, omission (which would be a hilarious time to find the Page Saving Warp button), or interruption. Probably the latter is the likeliest general category of "unexpected occurrence"; maybe combined with some kind of push to actually link the A Plot and B Plot in any way whatsoever?

I'll go ahead and tempt fate, and note that the modifications made to the arc in the manga version have ranged between basically harmless revisions and decided improvements (even if hardly dramatic in scope) on some of the original movie beats, so I figure I'll be cautiously optimistic. Or at least withhold judgement until it's clear where they're going with whatever it is they're being so coy about here.

Pfft. Give me this over the general level and tenor of, uh, "discourse" that endlessly cycled around the Granolah Arc serialisation, any day.

I think something like this will happen sooner or later. Dr Hedo will surely want to create a new perfected form of Cell and maybe make it good.
For me, Cell Max gives an idea of incompleteness, however strong it may be.

Nothing happens. It's just the ending of the movie. Don't get your hopes up.

What the hell was Victory Uchida hyping up exactly? Nothing new happened. Not even a tease for the next arc. That single page draft had me convinced that they were teasing something different was going to happen. I am so confused.

I'm also disappointed and confused. WTF?! Share just one page - Set expectations saying something unexpected will happen - Nothing happens. God, this is bad!

This is not Toyotaro's fault though, but Uchida's and Shueisha. No wonder even him was surpised they shared just one draft this month... He knew there was nothing to hide.

Anyway at least the manga won't end.

At times like these I'd laugh at the pathetic state of Dragon Ball Super but even I'm too disappointed...

Although the next chapter tease not even hinting at Black Freeza is kinda funny.

DBSHype says "The crisis on Earth is over. But the battle of the Superheroes is not over!", that's a line from the end of the chapter I guess.

So we might get another Goten & Trunks arc? More Gamma 1?

Hope we get to see Great Saiyaman 1 & 2 return next arc too

I don't understand how people are saying nothing happens when the chapter is not out for 2 more days...
Yamcha almost certainly did not cheat on Bulma:
He was afraid of Women, Bulma was the flirty one.
Yamcha wanted to get married (it was his gonna be his wish)
He suggested they settle down in the Trunks saga.
Alternate future Trunks is not a reliable source.
Toriyama wanted new SSJ Kids and not make new characters.

If all correct, that sounds...pretty bizarre. I'm not sure what weird fake-outs to bait the readership are meant to accomplish.

The hype-generation (if that's what this is?) aspects of the franchise seem to cut across the actual storytelling of the manga something fierce at times - messing with reader expectations has a tendency to backfire; it mars the experience of reading by pretending it's going to be somehow very different, when taking it on its own merits would have been fine and arguably led to a less antagonised response from readers.

The Granolah Arc was like this too, what with the "I Know It's A Surprise But The Arc Is Ending Soon You Guys" bit, only to last another 8 months. Now it's "Something Unexpected At The End Of The Arc You Guys What Could It Be", with it sounding like the answer is "nothing"; or at least, "nothing much". If it's just that the arc has an extra Super-Hero-related coda, that's cool and all, but hardly worth a bait-and-switch.

Still, the image of Gohan for Jump Festa was cool

It looks like there's a scene of Carmine escaping and regrouping at RRP HQ. Red Ribbon arc 4.0 incoming?

It could be kind of interesting if it turned out that with Super Hero's conclusion, we're only actually around the halfway point of the arc.

Super's manga-only arcs do tend to be longer, and Toyotarou was strangely excited at being able to tell a "Trunks Story", considering the prologue bit turned out to be relatively modest. It'd potentially be neat to see a longer arc that turns out to be as much about Trunks and Goten (and Pan?) as Super Hero proper was about Piccolo and Gohan. Toyotarou's done a good job with the characters so far.

At this point I think being a troll must be a requirement to work on this franchise

at least the manga is not ending or going on a hiatus.
