What about a DBZ HFIL?

What about a DBZ HFIL?
I'm sure most everybody here has seen at least one of the AMV Hell series, so I was thinking, why don't we make a fully Dragonball version?
Would anyone else be interested?

I've had plans for proposing something along these lines for a WHILE (I can prove it, I have witnesses), and I've even come up with a good amount of segment ideas already, too. I was waiting to propose it until the summer, once most of us are out of school and would have more editing time on our hands.
My idea for a name was "Project: Next Dimension."
But yeah, needless to say, I'd be all over this. DaizEX has some extremely talented AMVers, and this could end up a really good-looking final product if we put enough care and effort into it.
Dragon Ball ended in 1997.
What specifically would count as an entry for this project? I too have kind of had the idea to do this for a while. But what I was mostly going for as a general outline was to take parts of popular songs and make about 5 "mini-amv's" in one. I don't know if that's what you're looking for, but I've already gotten started a few months ago and just about finshed 1 of them. I took the first minute and 39 seconds of the song Rockstar by Nickelback and matched the lyrics with the video to make it look funny.

Most of the sections in the AMV Hells are about 10 to 30 seconds. AFAIK, there's only one section out of all four or five videos as long as you've made.Drabaz wrote:What specifically would count as an entry for this project? Not saying that's a bad thing, but I think the idea is to make a short clip with something that would be rough or impossible to flesh out into a full video (or just wouldn't be funny for four minutes).

Yea, I knew somthing over a minute was kind of too long. Oh well. I have another one in the works. It's about 45 seconds though. That seems kind of long too....darnit!

This is the official AMV Hell website. All the videos are on that site.

That's essentially the way I'd describe AMV Hell, too. A longer montage of short, witty clips that while clever or good, wouldn't merit or be able to use to produce an entire AMV.Rocketman wrote:I think the idea is to make a short clip with something that would be rough or impossible to flesh out into a full video (or just wouldn't be funny for four minutes).
Here, this is one of the AMV Hells; you should get a decent idea what the deal is.

Anyway, like I already, said, I've got several ideas already, and would love to contribute a good chunk of them. I could share one or two with anyone who wants to participate but is drawing a blank on ideas, if you ask really nicely.

What do you guys think should be some ground rules for submissions?
I personally like the idea of the submissions being 'secret', with only the guy who assembles the clips into the full video seeing all of them, so everybody gets pleasantly surprised by the finished product. Of course, this'll need some rule on whose gets in if two people happen to submit similar segments.
Of course, anyone who submits Evanescence, Linkin Park, or Du Hast gets rocks thrown at them.

That does sound good to me. Although content should be a priority (no porn, no super-heavy language [hey, I wanna be able to show this to my family if I take part, y'know?], etc, etc..., length should be the main one.Rocketman wrote:I personally like the idea of the submissions being 'secret', with only the guy who assembles the clips into the full video seeing all of them, so everybody gets pleasantly surprised by the finished product. And yeah, there'll be one guy in charge of putting it all together at the end, and he should be the one to go, "uh, pick something else," if an idea's taken. Though hopefully we'll be creative enough so that it won't be an issue more than once or twice at most.

Eh... that's probably not the best medium for such a huge job, you're right.Rocketman wrote:So, who's gonna be the guy putting all the stuff together? I don't mind doing it, but I only have Windows Movie Maker, so...
I guess I could do it if absolutely nobody else could... Now that I have an external hard drive, I probably have the actual space, but I'm working on just a laptop; not sure if I have the power. I can barely keep up with editing my own stuff.

Ah, that'd be great. Thanks.Onikage725 wrote:I have Premiere, so I could probably do it. Its just that right now my computer and Premiere aren't getting along...
Once I resolve the problem though, I could help.
So, what say we get this officially started? I'll lay down some rules (feel free to challenge/ask on any of them).
1. Submissions must have Dragonball-related visuals. Audio may be from anything. Clips from other shows may be used, but the focus must be on Dragonball. Otherwise, this can't very well be "DBZ HFIL", can it?
2. Submissions should usually be from 10 to 30 seconds long. Longer submissions will be considered on a case-by-case basis, but remember, this is meant to be a series of fairly rapid-fire clips, not a bunch of full music videos stuck together.
3. Evanescence, Linkin Park, and Rammstein's Du Hast are banned. The same goes for memes, including "Over 9000". Other Rammstein songs are ok.
4. Keep it somewhat clean, please. No nudity above and beyond what is shown in Dragonball itself, and go sparingly on the F-bombs, if you use them at all.
5. If two or more clips are submitted with the same or incredibly similar punchlines, the better-made one gets in. If they're of comparable quality, a coin will be flipped. Maybe make a "DBZ HFIL 1/2" showing the clips that were turned down.
Aside from that, I don't think there's anything else.... What say we give it a month from when Onikage works out his computer problems and see how many clips get done/submitted?
