Item index

Post by Herms » Mon Jan 19, 2009 3:34 pm

----Notice:This old thread is part of my series of guides. To avoid necro-posting, please post any comments you have in the sticky thread for my guides, rather than here. Thanks!----

So I've been staying up all night working on random stuff, and one of the things was to translate the index to Daizenshuu 7's item dictionary. This is essentially a big list of every item in the series, divided up by types of item and who uses them. Some items appear in more than one place. It doesn't distinguish which items are from the anime only, though the actual dictionary does. This took awhile to do (way longer than I thought), so I figured I'd post it here (that probably doesn't make much sense, but it's 4:30 here and I'm losing coherency). Anyway, without further ado:

Would the Big Gete Star count as a ship, or does this not include movies?

It does include the movies, but for whatever reason they count the Big Gete Star as a character, and include it in the character dictionary.

The Big Gete Star was an entity with artificial intelligence. I suppose if (assuming) Hacchan/Mechanical Man no.8 was also included in the character dictionary, then the Big Gete Star could fittingly be involved in the list as well.

The Big Ghetti Star started out as an artificial intelligence, right? But when Coola merged with it, wasn't it just an extention of Coola's will?

They never really explained that and I've always been curious about the exact nature of the union between Coola and BGS.

Coincidentally, the Big Gete Star is one of the character dictionary bios I've already translated. The Special Characteristics section touches on Coola's relationship with it:
*Big Gete Star
A gigantic machine planet.
History: Appeared in “Clash!! 10 Billion Powerful Warriors”. A computer chip in a “space graveyard” filled with discarded artificial satellites kept on multiplying itself for a long time. It absorbed various things in space, and grew into a machine planet.
Special Characteristics: Coola’s brain merged with this planet, becoming its core and ruling the entire planet. (Daizenshuu 6, p. 88)

Ah, thanks.

So it's basically a mechanical planet. Neat.

Kind of reminds me of Unicron from Transformers.

I'll be impressed, Herms, when you translate all the items' respected bios. :P

Once again, amazing work.

You should keep links to all of the lists and guides you've posted here; I've been trying to keep up, but it's been hard with you and Hujio doing so much so fast and my own projects here and there.

Give me a little while...

For the record, my progress with the daizenshuu translations is like this: 1, 2, and 4 are already done and up on Kanzentai, I've got 3 done, and I've got 5, 6, and 10 almost completely done, except for some interviews and Shenron Times (altogether I've got 30 pages left to do on 5, 6, and 10 combined).

I should say though that for 3, 5, and 10, I'm not translating the text for the adventure guide thingies. These are basically screencap galleries of the series that make a good chunk of 3 and 5, and a bit of 10. They're mostly pictures, and the text they have is just plot summary that tells you nothing new if you've seen the series, and it seems especailly redundant since I'm already translating the episode guides in those volumes. I'm also not translating the text in the character model sheet galleries, which is again just brief descriptions of characters which is nothing new and covered elsewhere anyway.

For 7...this is where I've got the most work left, as you'd expect. I've already finished the technique dictionary and geographical dictionary, as well as the timeline, the alternate timeline explation page, the random special item guides, the battle power chart, and the Toriyama character secrets page. I've also got 10 random pages of the character dictionary finished (out of 67), as well as the character index. But that still leaves about 150 pages...

Wow Herms, that's really impressive. That's a huge amount of translating to do. I'm sure the fans everywhere thank you for the effort.
