DragonBall Chapter Book Vol. 2, 3 And 4 Cover Art.

Amazon now has listings up for the DragonBall chapter books Vol. 2, 3 and 4. Looks like Vol 1 and 2 will be comming out on August 4th while Vol 3 and 4 will be comming out on September 1st.

Not totally liking the faces in books 2 and 4... especially on the number logo Goku in the bottom right of each volume. Haven't quite decided on my feelings towards all of this new artwork...

The backgrounds MIGHT be new, but otherwise yes, you're just crazy. It's all or mostly art from the manga, but it's been colored.

The Yamcha and Puar on the... vehicle is from Chapter 8 of the manga (the Goku is from something else though). Bulma and company on book 4's cover is from chapter 17. I couldn't find where the art for book 3's cover was from, though; might be a special illustration for something or other.

4's background is the title page of chapter 16, with the original car with Bulma and co. swapped out for the one from chapter 17. I guess it was the new coloring that made look seem unfamiliar. Same for Bulma and co. in the car picture from 17, but also Goku's dougi has been changed from solid black to orange, so they had to fill in the lines for the folds of his fabric, so something looks "off" about him.

The picture of Bulma in the car for book 3 is image 28 in Daizenshuu 1; originally it was made for a calendar.

I'd absolutely love to find that third cover without the text on it. It's a great shot and I don't remember ever seeing any of the pieces of it before.

Volume 4 looks cool.

though Goku's gi is inconsistent, unless he changes it earlier in the manga than he does in the anime.

Nope, just someone not that crazy into Dragon Ball doing the covers.

But remember the manga art had his gi's all Blue, Red, Orange, Green and so on.

I don't know is anyone has checked out the Naruto chapter books, but they are LAAAAAAME.

The font is HUGE and there is about 10 words per page (being slighty sarcastic). And its definately for like 7 year olds.

If the Dragon Ball chapter books are like that, that sounds hilarious. I might have to get these.

The art comes from sources like various chapter title pages, but some things are swapped around and re-colored. Quite honestly, they are rather nice looking!

So, I thought it'd be cool to show the original sources for the images that make up these covers, but unfortunately I don't have Vol.2 (of the manga) so I don't have a source for all the pictures. But if someone wants to go ahead and take some pics...

Vol 1's image came from a 1986 calendar image... Hmm, they dug pretty deep huh?

Vol.2's images were taken from two different panels in chapter 7 of the manga...

Vol. 3's images are made up of two panels from the manga. The Ox-King's on looking face is from chapter 11

and the other images are from somewhere in the beginning of Vol. 2 of the manga. Being I don't have Vol.2 (of the manga) I can't take a pic.

Vol. 4's images are from well, Herms already mentioned where that was from...

As for that little image of Goku near the bottom of every book, I don't know. Daizenshuu 1 has the image and surprisingly it was originally from 1993. I've included the description if someone would like to translate.

So there ya go. Someone take a pic of the missing pieces and we'll know were every image of these covers came from!
